Mastress Alita’s Monthly Sipdown Challenge
August 2022 → A melon tea

This one’s weird every time I drink it, no matter how I decide to steep it that day. Today I noticed how dark the leaves are and decided to try steeping like a black tea. Steeping like a green tea didn’t work at all for me last time, so why not? While it is a little bitter and astringent, I’m actually tasting the melon for the first time! That and, strangely, mint. It takes milk very well, definitely more like a black tea, so that’s helping with some of the resulting bitterness. Still not one I love or even like, but this definitely makes it more palatable.

Wasn’t a big fan of my first cup of this tea (for whatever reason). Second cup tastes a touch either oversteeped or overleafed (oops) or perhaps the water was a little too hot, but I can actually taste both the melon and the honey. However – I don’t think I’m overly keen on it. The honey flavouring has become too cloying for me and although it’s not as strong here as in other teas, it’s not my favourite. I don’t really taste any custard either, and the melon (not cantaloupe IMO, more like honeydew?) seems to be a weird pairing with the honey.

Too bad. The name is stellar.

Sipdown (350)

I’ve had this a couple times and it’s never been all that impressive. It’s fine but basically has the honey flavor that so many A Quarter to Tea teas have.

Sil

boooo on that honey flavour
