Lemon Lavender Butter Cake

Backlog from a week or so ago.

I’ve been wanting to do more iced teas now that the weather is warmer, plus I thought cold brews might be a way for me to start drinking some of the green and white teas that sit languishing in my tea cabinet. This was a nice start – it was light in flavor but there was definitely flavor there, which I don’t always experience with white teas in general. That said, the major downfall here for me was the soapy taste. I immediately checked the ingredients for coconut but didn’t see any so I’m guessing this is coming from the lavender. Maybe just my associate of lavender with soap, I don’t know. I have a bit more of this left so I guess I’ll try a hot cup eventually and see how it goes.

I could do with more of this tea…. it’s quite delicious. The lemon-lavender combination is divine; neither overpowers the other but both are quite present, and the white base finishes it off. Upping rating as I’ve been enjoying this so much… I wish it would be reblended!

This one was actually my first cup of the day today.

It was a good choice ‘cause it was pretty light and gentle with really, really smooth flavours so it made for a good ’ease you into your day’ kind of teas that allow you to wake up slowly, and blissfully. Like last time I tried this one, I didn’t really get much in terms of lavender flavours. I have been gently shaking the bag before measuring out leaf for each cup, but my fear is that I’m gonna have one cup out of this bag that’s just “slap you in the face” intense lavender flavour and the rest will all be like this one…

Aside for absent floral notes – this was great, though. It was maybe just a hair too lemon grass over authentic lemon but still made for a very silky and creamy lemon flavour alongside a buttery and fluffy/airy feeling vanilla sponge cake sort of flavour. You know, with really light/airy “whipped” frosting!? That kind of perfect melt in your mouth cake that feels almost weightless on your tongue as you take a bite. And the calories don’t count if you can’t feel it on your tongue, RIGHT?

Yeah – pretty damn close to perfect.

Did not expect to love this one as much as i did. I am not a fan of floral teas and i really don’t like lavender. When we were in France and it was everywhere, i was not a fan haha. However, this is GOOD. Slight lemon deliciousness followed by creamy vanilla butter goodness. The lavender for me is more noticeable in the aroma rather than the flavour which suits me perfectly. teas like this are why i’ll try almost anything haha

I have a 5 cup teapot at home and I decided to use it to make a big pot of tea. Not usually my thing but that’s what is here so I am using what I got.

I got to say, I do not love the pot. For one, the filter piece doesnt drain quickly enough so when you pour the water into it, the filter piece fills quickly and then you need to wait for it to drain out and then repeat the process a few more times until the pot is full.

Now I have a whole pot of this to drink and I am not loving it the way I once did. Perhaps it’s the prep method but the lavendar is stronger today. Its buttery but between the lavendar and the base it is also a little soapy. It’s got a slight lemon angel food cake vibe that is nice but the soap really detracts from it. Oh well. If nothing else, the experiment used up a lot of leaf.
