This tea is so lovely! A fresh tasting, sweet Japanese Sencha is paired with Pineapple for this simple yet tasty blend.
I wanted to duplicate (as closely as possible) my morning tea experience – which involves pineapple juice & Matcha powder. That’s my morning routine in a teacup (well, actually, I mix it together in one of those nifty shaker cups) – it’s invigorating & gives me the gusto I need to get going, plus I get the benefits of pineapple juice (bromelain).
I don’t know if an infusion of pineapple bits can be as beneficial as actual pineapple juice – but what I do know is that this tea is really yummy! It’s also organic, vegan, gluten-free, allergen-free & all natural!
organic ingredients: japanese green tea, pineapple & natural flavors.
more about this tea: This blend is a first for me – the first time I’m working with Japanese Sencha as a base. I’ve used a few other Japanese teas – particularly Genmaicha – (including this month’s Maple Coconut Rice Pudding Genmaicha) – but I most often utilize Chinese green teas. This is the first time that I can recall using a Japanese Sencha (I could be wrong, if I am, I apologize!)
As I mentioned in the above description, my inspiration was to duplicate my morning tea experience as closely as possible without going overboard on Matcha. I wanted something that I could drink a little later in the day that tasted close to that morning drink – without having to ingest the power of Matcha because – I would never sleep if I drank as much Matcha as I’d like to.
This is smooth sipping! It tastes fresh, slightly grassy without tasting overly vegetal, with the distinct sweet & tart notes of pineapple. I like this one a lot – I’m hoping the rest of you do too because I’m already thinking about when I can reblend it! (I’m already concerned about running out of this tea!)
to brew: shake the pouch gently to make sure you get some pineapple slivers in your measurement. Use 2 ½ grams of leaf to 12oz of hot water (170°F) & steep for 2 minutes. Strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes before you start sipping.
serving suggestions: I recommend tasting this one before you sweeten it. I find it rather lovely without additions. The sencha has a pleasant sweetness to it. I have tried it with a little bit of sugar in it & this addition will add a little bit of definition to the pineapple notes, but I don’t think it makes enough difference in the taste (except to make it sweeter) & I like it better without sugar. A wee bit of honey is nice in this if you want something sweeter & I prefer it over the sugar (although I still prefer no additions.) I’ve tried this iced too, it’s really nice.
