Description

Tea of the Week for October 25, 2021!

Around this time of year, I see “Orange Cinnamon Rolls” available in those pop-cans of dough in the refrigerated section of the grocery store & I find those difficult to resist – so I usually don’t! I remember at one point a year or two ago thinking, why not have Strawberry Cinnamon Rolls?

After a quick google search, I found that Strawberry Cinnamon Rolls is actually a thing & my mind immediately presented me with an idea: how about a strawberry cinnamon roll tea? Because, the way I see it is – if it’s a treat that can be made, can it not be made even better if it were a tea? (That’s the way my mind works. If it’s a thing, I generally want it to be a tea thing & fortunately, I work for 52Teas & we’re not afraid to make it into a tea thing here.)

I decided to try to create a Strawberry Cinnamon Roll tea & here it is! I started with a blend of organic green teas (Chun Mee, Gunpowder & Young Hyson) & added some freeze-dried strawberries & some Sri Lankan cinnamon chips – plus some essence to create a cinnamon roll-ish taste that’s complete with a touch of cream cheese icing essence (don’t worry, it’s vegan!)

The naturally soft, sweet notes of the green tea works really well here. The cinnamon is gentle – I didn’t want it to overpower the flavor of the strawberry or the cream cheese notes . . . & those cream cheese notes here are so lovely – sweet & tangy! The strawberry notes add a pleasing sweetness to the cup & there’s just a hint of dough-y pastry. This is a yummy teatime treat that’s also organic, vegan, gluten-free, allergen-free & all natural!

organic ingredients: green teas, cinnamon, strawberries & natural flavors

to brew: shake pouch to redistribute ingredients. use 2 ½ grams of tea to 12oz of very hot water (175°) & steep for 2.25 minutes (2 minutes, 15 seconds). strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes before sipping. (The cool time encourages the flavors of the tea to develop!)

A wee bit of sweetener will enhance the overall ‘dessert-y’ quality of this tea. I use less than a ½ teaspoon of raw sugar in this – it helps the cream cheese & pastry notes really pop.
