Tea of the Week for June 1, 2020!

When I got the dried cantaloupe for the Nice Melons tea, I got enough for two teas (because, you never know if something might go awry, it’s better to have more than not enough!) So I wanted to use the rest of the cantaloupe – so here we are! Fresh, light green tea blended with mangoes & cantaloupe – sweet & so summer-y!

This blend tastes amazing iced. It’s also quite good hot, but, I think I prefer it iced – so refreshing!

organic ingredients: green tea, mangoes, cantaloupe & natural flavors

So yummy! This blend is a well balanced combination of the two flavors: mango & cantaloupe. They partner so well. The overall flavor is fruity (obviously!) & sweet. The green tea has a light, fresh & slightly buttery taste. So smooth & refreshing.

to brew: use 3g of tea & fruit to 12 ounces of very hot water (175°F) steep for 2 minutes. strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes. enjoy as a hot tea – or allow to cool completely & chill to enjoy as an iced tea (I highly recommend trying this iced!)

Cold Brew!

Found this unopened sample shoved way, way in the back of my green tea sample drawer. I felt bad for neglecting it for so long so I decided to make it as a cold brew. I’m not totally decided on how I feel about this blend. One this is for sure and that’s that the grassier elements of the green tea are much too prominent for my own tastes. Hard to get around them here.

I don’t get mango either which is a little disappointing. However, the cantaloupe was a surprise success for me. Truthfully, I expected to taste a lot of mango and very little cantaloupe since the latter is such a delicate and tough the convey flavour. It really comes through a lot in the finish of the sip – especially in the aftertaste and exhale after swallowing.

It would be easy for me to write off this tea because it’s so green tea forward and it’s missing one of the main flavour components. But the cantaloupe. I just can’t ignore or deny a good cantaloupe flavour in a tea blend. They’re a dime a dozen.

For the July sipdown prompt, “a mango tea.” Prepared cold brew.

This tea has a very refreshing “green” sort of flavor. It tastes very fresh, wet, and juicy… there is a fresh grassy/mineral taste to the base that reminds me of dew-damp grass. The mango is more of an underripe flavor, but still had a juicy quality. I was quite surprised how distinctly I tasted cantaloupe… most melon teas I’ve had lean more on the honeydew or watermelon side, but this really reminded me of crisp, juicy cantalope. The flavors aren’t particularly strong but well defined and taste really refreshing with the green base. This is a very nice too-hot summer day coldbrew sort of tea.

Ehh, I could taste the (underripe) mango, and probably the cantaloupe too, but wasn’t really enamoured with this blend. I find I just really want that ripe mango flavour (which may not actually work with cantaloupe).

This was our tea of the week for the week of June 1. Really yummy!

The green tea has a soft, silky texture & a sweet taste that plays well with the sweet fruit flavors of cantaloupe and mango. It’s really good iced!
