Tea of the Week for October 9, 2017!

My inspiration behind this blend is one of my favorite coffee shop drinks: a London Fog Latte! I order mine with coconut milk and half the usual amount of vanilla syrup (otherwise, it’s just too sweet!) One day as I was sipping on this drink, I found myself contemplating the beverage. I love the way the hints of coconut play with the bergamot but I found myself wishing that the coconut notes were stronger. (I do love me some coconut!) I also found myself wishing that the tea notes were stronger – which I felt would be accomplished if it didn’t have so much milk product in it – but then, the coconut notes would not be present. Then the idea hits me: why not make my own version of this drink with these improvements in mind!

And here we have it: I started with a base of Assam and Yunnan for a rich, bold, malty flavor. Something that could hold it’s own even with the strong note of creamy coconut. Then I added bergamot – I didn’t want to go too heavy on the bergamot because I didn’t want the coconut and bergamot competing with each other. I wanted enough bergamot to be tasted but not so much that it would interfere with the coconut flavor. Then I added some vanilla bean. Again, not a heavy vanilla taste – just enough to lend creaminess to the coconut and soften the edge of the bergamot and strong teas.

Then I went coconuts! This is a strongly coconut flavored tea but there’s enough bergamot there to give the cup the flavor that I was going for – this cuppa is my ideal London Fog! It’s got lots of coconut flavor without the milk drowning out the flavor of the tea. No “latte” required here, there’s enough creaminess to the flavor. Of course, if you want to go latte, that’s OK – but I’d recommend trying it without first!

YUM! I love this!

Day 4 of the 52teas advent calendar. Drank this hot with no additives. I would have sworn this was a straight black tea with coconut and nothing else. I like coconut, so that’s fine by me! There’s some briskness and astringency that I was chalking up to the base but I suppose could be the bergamot. Overall a pleasant and cozy cuppa for winter.

2023 sipdown no. 47

Thank you Kelmishka for another great cuppa!

The coconut made this very creamy with a very true, unsweetened coconut flavour. The bergamot was mellowed out by the coconut and it all came together in a great way.

I’m really persnickety about coconut flavour. I was a bit sceptical upon reading the packet label, but one whiff raised my expectations. I was pleasantly surprised by the balanced aromas of coconut, bergamot, and black tea. And! The steep didn’t disappoint! The flavour is equally balanced and so, so good! Deserving of all the exclamation points! Very forgiving steep, good at any temperature. I have maybe three servings left. I’ll be very sad to see the packet empty, but to my credit I didn’t expect to last more than a day. Two! It’ll have lasted two days! Maybe 1.5.

I’m sad to see this one go, but I enjoyed it while it was here. It was creamy, coconuty, and bergamoty all in the right amounts.

I’m super tired of coconut teas, so I was just going to make this cup for a family member, but then I sniffed it and realized it was EG! I love a good EG, and this is a good one. It’s really soft and well-balanced between vanilla, coconut, bergamot, and black tea. The coconut plays quite a minor role, which I’m super okay with, I was just surprised due to the name. Oh I just realized that foggy in the name is in reference to a London Fog. That makes sense. The resteep is almost just as delicious as the first steep.

I don’t generally love coconut teas- they’re generally weird and oily and often make my stomach turn. I’ve also gotten a bit burnt out on EG blends, so I wasn’t super thrilled to see this- but how mistaken I was. This is absolutely delicious. Such a fresh, bright coconut flavor, combined with sweet creamy marshmallow and just a touch of bergamot.

52Teas 12 Teas of Christmas: Day 4

Such a dang classic! This is easily my favorite Earl Grey variant, thanks to the liiiight bergamot and the deliciously creamy notes from the coconut. Bumping my rating up because I enjoy it so much.

2022 Spring Tea Swap – Day 22
From Emilie!

Of all the teas Emilie sent in our spring swap, Foggy Coconut is the only one I’ve tried before now. Luckily for me, it’s one of my favorites from 52Teas. I’m tasting more bergamot than coconut this time around and I’m loving it. It’s almost like a different blend than what I experienced before. Adagio suggests this is similar to its Earl Grey Bella Luna and I can see it, but I absolutely prefer this one.

Tea Advent Calendar – Day 22

Now that the Christmas festivities are over, time to catch up on the last few days of my Advent calendar! I was SO excited to find this one in Sunday’s packet, as it has been on my wish list for awhile. I love Earl Grey and I love coconut, so this blend sounded like a match made in heaven! And sure enough, it’s delicious. I was a little worried that the bergamot and coconut would end up giving me soap vibes, but it was just creamy, coconutty deliciousness with just enough bergamot to keep things interesting. Lovely with milk!
