Chocolate Éclair

Didn’t have time to make a cup of tea to take with me to work today (gasp!) but I was able to squeeze some kettle time in during my lunch break and now I have this in my thermos for the afternoon. From 2017, still in a sealed packet.

The flavor of this tastes pretty much spot on for the “Brownie Batter with Nut Butter Swirl” that I finished not that long ago, just minus the nuttier notes; it’s the same richly chocolate, fudgy flavor, with some nice cocoa and bittersweet dark chocolate notes. Perhaps waxing a little more drying on the sip than I typically prefer, but that was my own fault; lunch breaks are busy for me and I wasn’t able to take it out of the steeper on time to my preferences for blacks, making this cup a little on the brisk side. Had I managed to get back to the steeper when the timer went off, I’d imagine this would be quite smooth, and I still have several more cuppas left in my packet to test that theory.

Nice, deep chocolately tea, and with a full and thick feeling body to the sip that doesn’t have that really thin/watery feel that so many chocolate teas have. I can taste a little malt/breadiness from the base, but mostly the flavor is dominant. I might like to try this one as a latte, if I find the time for it before I use up the leaf.

Apparently drinking this all day every day until it’s all gone.

One of the creamiest teas I have tried. Full bodied. No bitterness at all. Th creamy flavor outweigh the chocolate IMO but in a good way. Delicious! something I plan to reorder ASAP.

This is like my fifth cup of it already so perhaps it would be a good idea to report on this. The scent of the dry leaf is chocolate, alright. There is a generous amount of cacao shells in here so you better believe this smells like a bar of dark chocolate.

In terms of flavour, I am getting the cacao notes first and foremost, followed by some honeyed and mineral notes from the base. There is a little creaminess there, just a hint. The base also becomes slightly astringent once cooled after half an hour (TWD is distracting me!) but not in a bad way.

My second favourite of the three FUNdraiser blends.

Malty base (it tastes like Assam and Chinese Jin Jun Mei. I don’t actually know what the base is, but it tastes like a mix of smooth blacks). EDIT: Looked it up and the base is Assam and Fujian black-possible Jin Jun Mei. Damn, I’m good.

There is some raw cocoa/dark chocolate here, minerals, tannin. I think the creaminess could have come through a little bitter because I got vanilla but not really whipped cream like that you might expect in an eclair or cream puff. Even if the milk chocolate/cream intensity wasn’t there, it made an excellent morning cup. I recommend this tea to fellow chocolate fans.

mmmmm this is really nice. Sample from VariaTEA and it’s a tasty one. the chocolate/vanilla combo makes it just the right sort of chocolatey taste. I’d say this is pretty damn close to the real thing, at least as close as you can get in terms of a liquid emulating that squishy bite in to yum.

I was very distracted both while steeping this tea and while drinking it. I can say for sure that it was very chocolaty, a deep and dark chocolate flavor. Chocolate-flavored teas so often taste watery and bland, but this one was quite rich. I enjoyed it!

This has been sitting around in my stash. I was getting tired of having coffee every morning at work, so I chucked this in my handbag earlier this week. I’ve had a cup every day for the past four days, and it’s really delightful. It’s one of the better chocolate teas I’ve had in recent memory. It tastes very rich and sinful even though it’s not. I like it best as a latte because dairy (or non-dairy milk for that matter) really brings out the creaminess that you’d get with an actual eclair. All in all, another solid flavored black tea blend from 52Teas. Recommended for those that enjoy dessert and/or chocolate teas.
