440 Tasting Notes
This is another I’ve revisited about discounting it about a year ago. And another I’m glad I did, since again it has been redeemed. I’m seriously beginning to wonder if I didn’t read anything about brewing before and just blithely did 5 min at boiling for everything. What waste if I did!
Anyways, this one. Definitely sweet with hints of caramel. Not necessarily how I prefer my creme brulee, but it is a nice enough dessert tea that I am ranking it with a smile. Again, though, I’m not sure if I’ll crave this one. When I want something caramel sweet I’m definitely more apt to reach for a caramel candy or chocolate than a tea. I’ll have to see what a second cup of this after the wall completion does to my thoughts on it.
Preparation
This is a tea that I have mixed feelings about. It doesn’t taste like what I was looking for from it, nor do I really love it or ever crave it. I didn’t replace it when my first bag finished but now as I am doing the wall I decided it was worth a revisit. And I’m still mixed. It’s a pu’erh, which automatically means I’m hesitant after having only ever found one I love. And black, I can’t stand it. But when I add milk and sugar something happens and I enjoy it while I sip the cup. I just, never want to brew a second cup of it. It isn’t overly minty, and even is slightly watered down in the entire flavour, but I’m not tossing/trading what’s left in this bag, either.
See? Confusing!
Preparation
I tried this one a year ago when I was new to David’s and I must have got a bad bag or something because man did I hate it. It tasted like I was licking burnt trees.
Fast forward to today when I retried it. I don’t know if this time maybe I actually read the directions, or got a better sample, or what happened, but no burnt trees. Actual raspberry flavour. A cup of tea I could finish. Wow! I don’t hate this anymore! Two mates in one day which don’t make me want to toss my cup. I’m going to have to change my preferences for the next tea exchange, now, aren’t I?
Preparation
This is only my second time having a pure mate, and wow what a different flavour than the first one I tried (Adagio’s). I was dreading this one, since the one I’d had from Adagio had been a very green and unappealing flavour to me. But I’m working on the entire David’s wall so sacrifices must be made.
And I’m so glad that I tried this one! It has redeemed mates for me. I agree with the other tasting note that compares to Genmaicha. There’s a roasted toasted type flavour to this that makes it a pleasant tea to sip while I’m reading all the reviews you guys have posted while I slept. I just finished my cup and I have an aftertaste in my mouth that is like toast and caffeine, but not offensively so (less burnt coffee and more pleasant). I’m very glad I tried this now, and am looking forward to the rest of the mates on the wall!
Preparation
Mmm. So I was a loose leaf Earl Grey virgin. Any bagged versions I’d had were bland and tasteless so I couldn’t compare this tea to anything when I had a sip. And then I tried it and wow, this is what I expected from La La Lemon. From the reviews I gather than the bergamot isn’t usually this strong in an Earl, but I’m loving it here. The tea is just strong enough to add a nice contrast to the bergamot as well, making it a rare black tea I can drink black.
Preparation
I drank this one tonight despite not being under the weather. Maybe it makes a difference, but all I got from this was lemongrass. Not that that’s a bad thing, but I’d rather just have straight lemongrass if that’s what I’m craving. I definitely prefer Cold 911, Exotica, and a few others that are in this family at David’s.
Preparation
Call me a Hufflepuff, call me a girl, call me whatever you want, but when something sparkles it makes me like it. (Unless it has anything to do with Twilight.) So this tea had me just sitting and staring at it, and oops, I let the first one steep way too long. I didn’t dare try it with a ten minute steep, so I dumped it all out and tried again. This one was much better, and is, like everyone else has said, a really nice sweet cinnamon black tea. I can’t wait to try this one as a latte using some cinnamon spiked milk!
Preparation
I’ve been avoiding this one since it was released last year, but finally I bit the bullet and decided to give it a try. Caramel corn isn’t my favourite thing in the world, but I like maple, apples, and popcorn, which is what David claims this tastes like. So I tried it.
Nope, it’s a really weak flavoured caramel corn tea. Which, I’m not sure that is a flavour I have ever really imagined for a tea. (Also, I use the term tea lightly since I barely saw any in the bag I was given.) I can definitely see this being a tea for my sister, however, as she adores caramel corn and all things associated with it. I suspect I’ll be giving the rest of my bag to her.
Preparation
If anyone has any of this they are willing to send me I will love them forever. I almost cried when it didn’t win the Back from the Dead contest. This is my all time favourite flavoured tea to have iced. All I taste with every sip is this amazing tea that is a dupe for Welch’s White Grape juice, but without all the calories or the crazy costs. If it wasn’t for the fact that it loses a bit of the amazingness when I drink it hot, I’d be giving this one a perfect score. Most hoarded tea in my collection, for sure.

I am not mad for Mango Madness. I was really disappointed in this one. I had it brewed iced in store, and I found that what flavour was there was extremely fake. I got the sense of drinking watered down mango koolaid. And nobody likes watered down koolaid.
I do have a mango tea I love, but it is a green. I just don’t see a white being the right match for such a dominating fruit.
I’ve been tempted to try this one… maybe I will now!
