7 Tasting Notes
I had this tea over the weekend at the hotel where I stayed. I was somewhat disappointed in the tea. The tasted of bergamot was very settle, which is good. That’s where the positives stop. The black tea itself was really weak, as in lacked depth of flavor. I would say I could drink this again, except for the chemical flavor the pouch gave off. Maybe it’s just me, but the tea tasted like the bag gave off plastic flavor. I don’t think I’ll drink this again.
Preparation
We have this tea in our cafeteria at work. I ran out of my Ceylon black so I went for this one. The smell of the dry bag was ok, but that’s about it. Once brewed, the tea flavor was a mess. Usually in an Earl Grey I expect a balance between black tea bergamot flavors. This tea offered nothing like that. The black tea flavor was of old/dusty tea and I don’t think I even tasted the bergamot. I steeped the tea about 2 minutes and it was bitter. Can’t really recommend this one.
Had this tea again last nigt and realized that I didn’t steep it long enough last time. I steeped it for about 4.5 minutes and the flavor came out fuller (with no bitterness) than when I steeped last time for 3 minutes. I also measured the temperature of the water before steeping and it was at around 167F, lower than last time. I think that steeping at a lower water temperature for longer time yielded better taste. I also noticed that it a had a sweet aroma, which must be the flowers. I think I am going to order the rest of Ego’s flowering teas. I’ll make comments as I drink them.
Preparation
I tried this one as Kacie was giving it a high rating. Ordered it directly from Ego Tea. I’ve had flowering teas from California Tea House before and gave them an average rating as they were a little on the bitter side and were very flat. I actually liked this tea from Ego way more. No bitterness (not until about 8-9 minutes, after which any tea will get bitter anyways) and it had a way fuller green tea taste. It also had a really sweet smell which came of just a little as an aftertaste. I don’t think that these teas are scented, so I am guessing it might be the flowers. I think I’ll try some of the others they offer.

Preparation
I had this tea over the weekend and it was ok, nothing I’d write home about. It does have sweet note that is good, but it was missing the depth, but I guess I am expecting a bit too much from a tea bag. I guess, if I didn’t have anything else to drink, I would drink it again.
While I was out last night with friends at a restaurant, I asked for tea and they only had tea bags. So, I went with this Earl Grey. Really weak. Now, I am biased when it comes to tea bags. I think they are a waste of space on your store’s shelves – only loose tea for me, BUT I do occassionally use them. And I have to say I have had better Earl Grey in a bag.
Traditional Japanese Sencha is too pricey, but I do like the vegetal twang on occasion, so I decided to see if I can get the same enjoyment out of China Sencha, that runs a lot cheaper. I decided to give EGO Tea a try. It is different from the Japanese Sencha, but different in a good way. I might just switch to this going forward.
