19 Tasting Notes
Unfortunately, Coffee Cake tastes artificial. The tea’s name comes not from natural coffee cake ingredients like vanilla and sugar but from natural and artificial cake flavours.
A lovely aroma while steeping, the flavours are nice but the artificial taste is disappointing.
I try everything once and I have tried a lot of chocolate teas but have never found one that I’d buy a second time. Surprisingly, this one grows on me with each sip. At first, I was like, meh, but after a second cup, I kinda like it. I’ll likely drink this after dinner for a guilt-free treat. Choconut Oolong tastes like chocolate and hazelnuts with only a hit of oolong in the middle. A strong hazelnut and liquorice finish.
Well, I don’t hate it but I don’t love it. It’s just okay. It smells sweet, noticeable almonds, but I taste tart apples, cinnamon, and, unfortunately, an artificial sweetness. I like the tartness, it’s the underlying sweetness that I don’t like. I didn’t drink this right away, as a result, I discovered that I prefer this cool. I will drink what I have, only 25 g, but I won’t buy it again.
I always enjoy a nice cup of chamomile but after the first sip of Bravissimo I wasn’t pleased. A tea enthusiast, I followed the steeping instructions, tried three cups on three separate occasions, and still couldn’t finish my cup. At first, I wasn’t sure why I didn’t like it. I rarely find a tea that I can’t stand and I couldn’t stand the strong lingering flavour in this one. The initial smell and taste was nice – chamomile, light citrus, cool mint – then it turns with a hit of liquorice. That was it. Liquorice root. I’ve discovered I am not fond of strong liquorice flavour. I was surprised because I love anise and fennel. I checked my collection and there is liquorice in other teas that I enjoy. Maybe this is too much for me.
It is important to note that David’s Tea lists liquorice root as the first ingredient and chamomile second. If you know you don’t like liquorice root, you probably won’t enjoy this one.
Unwilling to give up on this tea, I opted to reduce the amount of tea (from 1.5 tsp to 1 tsp) and the suggested steep time (in half) hoping the flavour would mellow. It did! Though I wouldn’t buy Bravissimo again (I have many other chamomile based favourites), I will definitely enjoy a few lightly infused cups with what is left.
