84 Tasting Notes
I’m on my second cup of the day now and this stuff is magical. It tastes like warm buttery pancakes dripping in maple syrup.
I’ve never really gotten the butter note in Franks other blends but it’s really strong here and goes well with the “cakeyness” of the pancakes and the sweetness of the maple. Even after sipping on this all evening I’m still amazed by how realistic it is. The balance between the flavoring and the tea is perfect.
Preparation
I was afraid this wouldn’t be spicy enough for me.
Well I shouldn’t have been worried. This is definitely a chai that is not for the meek. The chocolate is more apparent when sniffing the dry leaves then in the final brew but I can still taste it just below the ginger and cayenne.
Mayan Chocolate Chai is my comfort tea when I’m sick. It has magical powers against stuffiness and makes me breath when every over the counter drug has failed.
This stuff is magic. It’ll cure what ails you and perk up your taste buds at the same time.
Preparation
Ok it smelled icky. Which was weird. I like honeybush and I like chocolate so that was not a good sign. But you can see by my rating that the initial weird herbally aroma was misleading. It has a pleasant chocolaty taste, it’s not the rich chocolate liquor of my favorite Valentines tea but it’s a nice caffeine free way to meet my sweet tooth.
Preparation
Oh pumpkin spice. Well I will give you this. If you were just called spice tea I wouldn’t have to rate you so poorly. Because lightly spicy you are. But pumpkin? Where is the pumpkin? I’m afraid of steeping it for much longer and making it bitter. There is just the faintest pumpkin note. Enough to let me know what I’m missing.
I will not give up so easily and I’ll experiment with milk and sugar but I’m disappointed for now.
Preparation
Autumy. Very pleasant. Nice balance of apple and spices.
The spices are more like mulling spices than some chai ‘whoa this is spicy’ chais. Which works for this blend.
Normally I drink chai with milk but for my first cuppa I drank it straight up and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I thought my british background would have ruined me for drinking black teas without milk but I’m reconditioning myself apparently.
Mmm I’m one of the few who really like this one. I get a really full rich brew from this and get the the coco notes towards the ends of the cup when it’s cooling down. It’s very comforting on a windy fall day.
I love to watch the little balls unfurl themselves coming out of their cocoons. It’s the perfect use for my IngenuiTEA pot from adagio.
I used 4 balls at 5 minutes and 30 seconds. It’s best the first two steepings I’m still fiddling a bit with the brewing time on the third.
Zing! This tangy infusion is a great way to wake up without caffeine. It’s very tart, reminiscent of hibiscus in a distant sense. I love it on mornings (oops afternoons) like this when I’m feeling blah.
The tartness level is definitely not for the faint of heart but can be tempered with honey.
Mmmm. Tasty. First infusion.
I’m drinking it with milk and sugar but it’s almost too sweet with added sugar. The pear note is juicy but more delicate than the rich caramel. Definitely a dessert tea.
I first had this at Lealand in San Francisco and I had to buy some. I’m running low now and rationing it now until I can get more.
I accidentally created a new brand category for Lealand. Is there anyway they can be merged?
The only thing that worries me about this one is the butter. I can’t stand butter on my pancakes.
This note is very reassuring for the butter note! I also haven’t been able to taste any butter in some of the other blends, but I’m even more excited to try this tea! When I receive it, I think I’ll try boiling and steeping for about 3 minutes like you did here. :) Great review!
