What Brought You To Steepster?
I was thinking the other day about how much I appreciate this community, and how big a part tea plays in my daily routine, thanks largely to Steepster.
Then I felt fortunate that I even found this site, and went through the trouble to create an account.
So now I’m curious: what brought you guys here?
For me, I found it when I tried to search for teas at DAVIDsTEA, and I clicked here by mistake. I couldn’t believe I’d found a database of reviews that would help me avoid flavours I didn’t like. After a few quick uses of Steepster WHILE at DAVIDS, I realized I should sign up and track the tea I like. tunes&tea was very welcoming and sent me a few personal messages explaining how the site worked and why I should full out my mini-bio etc, and then off I went! From the start I was surprised at how friendly everyone was.
Honestly, I got linked here through a google search regarding what to do about cleaning my tea tins. And then lurking happened. And then I joined.
The thread was super useful. It was pretty old, if I remember right, but it helped me clean the gross Teavana cherry flavor out of my tea tin!
So. In December 2010 I went back to Epcot in Orlando for the first time in 14 years. The last time we’d been, my mom bought some bagged green tea very cheap in the China portion of the countries exhibit. I spent all of my 6th grade year drinking that after dinner with honey and loved it. So when I went back, the tea was what I looked for and it sparked an interest in tea overall.
What brought me HERE was the gadgetry. The boyfriend bought some loose tea down in Epcot and I hated the the mesh tea strainers we had, and wanted something a little more streamlined in brewing equipment. The Steepster discussion on the Breville One Touch was the catalyst for me buying that lovely little piece of perfection, and then the lurking and perusing tea tasting notes got me hooked and made that rather expensive purchase worthwhile, haha.
It’s been almost 3 years since I fell down the rabbit hole, and my Breville has earned its keep and I have learned more than I thought I could about tea and all the culture/history behind it. Steepster is 100% the reason behind all of this…that and the fortuitous google search that led me here. :)
I was probably searching something tea related when I stumbled on this website and thought “oh wow, this seems neat.” I’ve been hooked since.
I think I was looking up reviews for DavidsTea. I just started shopping there and wanted to know what teas were good to limit my spending. I had lots of fun adding stuff to my cupboard and posting short reviews. I then stopped going for a few months as I was quite busy, then came back.
One of my best friends linked an article about this “new tea social media site” to me when it first started in 2009. I joined the very same day. :) I have been awkwardly and shyly lurking around ever since. It was only recently that I started to break out of my shell and post things.
I was looking for reviews on tea, and also looking for good tea vendors…not sure how I found Steepster~ EXACTLY, but very grateful.
I have some new friends here that I love, and this site has actually helped me through my mother & husband’s passing (stress relief).
Nearly 1 year ago, I had a not-so-great Teavana experience and checked Google to see if anyone else had similar experiences. A link led me to an old thread here and I decided to check out the rest of the site (A forum dedicated to tea? Awesome!). I had to join once I read through the “You know you’re addiction to tea when…”!
I was on the Ravelry forum Cuppa Tea and someone started a thread about Steepster. I clicked the link and the rest is history.
I had wanted to find a place to talk tea that wasn’t snobby. I started on Adagio’s TeaChat, but the talk was too over my head (at the time at least) and no one there seemed to want to chat with a noob. Very cold shoulder sort of place I felt.
I’m not sure how I found Steepster exactly. Either a link on TeaChat or a fateful Google search.
Finding this place opened up my tea horizons and expanded my cupboard…though it’s a constant danger to my bank account. Lol!
