Which new features do you want the most?
How about “online users” to see who is on.
If we do that, let’s make sure we have an opt-out option. I hate the feeling that I’m being watched while online and I generally stay away from services that show online users.
Most sites that show that can be tailored to opt in/out or to only display online/offline status to “friends”
I like to follow the commentary of the tasting notes I comment on (and am looking forward to doing the same w/ tea food items and accessories hopefully), but with the never ending dash board (lol) and just my poor memory, it’s hard to remember and find all the commentary for tasting notes I’ve already commented on. It would be great if those were differentiated by “so-and-so also commented on so-and-so’s tasting note of such and such tea”.
Would like to see more “Follow” buttons. If I’m reading forum posts and somebody says something cool, I should be able to click “Follow” right next to their name. Likewise if I am scanning the Latest Activity, etc.
Also, As a vendor. I would love to be able to see who has added our teas to their shopping lists, who has it in their cupboard, etc. I’m always looking for new ways to gauge people’s interest in our blends.
Just a small tweak to the profile pages. It would be great to see a link to twitter, if a user is signed up to that service.
Once again, I think that should be opt-out. I don’t necessarily want to share all my accounts with everyone. I value my privacy. Right now Steepster is set up to protect privacy in myriad ways. It is part of what I like about it and is part of why I’m here.
Perhaps a better solution is not to automatically share everyone’s Twitter information (or email addresses or any other contact info) but to provide a place in the profile where the user can choose to offer that as a link in the same way that Location or Website is available but not required.
I like Carolyn’s idea here. I don’t have a Twitter account and isn’t particularly interested in one, but I don’t mind sharing my email so people can contact me directly there if they wish.
I don’t know if it would work or how difficult it would be to implement, but I would like to be able to match up my ratings with people who rated teas similar to how I did. For example, if I rated tea A and tea B over, say, 80, but rated tea C very low, say 40, I could see who else had similar numbers, and from looking at what other teas they liked I might be more likely to find ones I liked.
I’m not sure I’m understanding you correctly, do you mean this as a way to find other teas you might like or people w/ similar tea tastes- because I think BOTH would be wonderful.
1) Bitter / Smoothness – I currently use a spreadsheet to keep track of steeping certain tea causes it to get bitter. It would be great if we could include this on the description.
2) Vote for features – Instead of listing it in a thread, allow each user to vote for features
3) Private tasting notes.
4) API – Would love to see an API (Seems to be restful already)
5) Cleaning up the companies. There are a lot of duplicates.
I have a lot of other nit pick little features / design changes, but this is beta and beats my excel spreadsheet that I share with my friends. Thanks for making this site. The bad thing is, I’m spending a lot more on tea and I still haven’t finished many of my boxes.
I disagree w/ the 2nd suggestion. WE’RE the ones that use the site so we should be ones coming up w/ the suggestions for new features. I do; however, agree that we should vote on ones suggested. That’s why I suggested my idea of having a button that says “+1” by the idea so we can just click that to log how many people are interested in that idea instead of having endless “I agree!” comments.
Sorry, I guess I wasn’t clear with #2. I meant to say we should have a separate interface to vote for suggestions we make.
The only issue is, there’s a lot of side chatter. Some things are comments to feature requested. Like I just listed 4 features I wanted, so a +1 wouldn’t really work.
This is a very very very little thing, but I’ve been wondering why it isn’t so. Here on the forum if a thread has any new comments that I haven’t read yet, it turns blue. The pinned threads at the top do not turn blue so the only way you can see that it has new comments is to keep an eye on the date stamp and try to remember when the last time I looked was. Could the pinned threads pretty please turn blue too when they have new comments in them?
This is a small thing, but could it be possible to record different ratings of a tea per tasting? If you change your rating of a tea, it changes the ratings of all your logs of that tea, even from the past. It makes it hard to see how people’s tastes have changed or grown since we can only see their latest take on a particular tea.
I agree to this. The rating might be based on brewing technique or other variables, and it’d be nice to be able to look back and see that a specific tea is spectacular when prepared a certain way, but just average when prepared another.
I have to agree on this, although I do see why that might be odd. How would Steepster know what your overall rating for the tea was. If you happened to get a bad brew one time and gave it a bad rating how would the system know? Would you have individual ratings as well as your overall rating?
“How would Steepster know what your overall rating for the tea was.” Right now, every time you change your rating, only the new one shows. I don’t think an over all rating is necessary. If a person gives it the same rating each time they have it you know that’s what they think of it all the time. The rating for ONLY that log should be next to the corresponding log.
Example: You brew new tea first time and it’s yuck – rating 25. You brew again different temp/time and get a much better taste – rating 85. How would Steepster know that you want to retract your 25 rating? If you can’t retract it, you are contributing to a lower rating of the tea. This also means that one user can rate a tea several times to affect the rating. I do agree that this is an issue, though. For personal logging reasons, you may want to see how different variables effect the rating you give to a tea. Also, others may want to know what to expect if they change the brewing for the same tea. For now, maybe log it in text (“Brewed for shorter time, much better taste, and changed rating from 25 to 85”). P.S. Sorry for such a long reply!
Did anyone already suggest that you add the ability to search the forum?
I would search to see if anyone did, but…
THANK YOU for the search! I knew something must have been up when discussions were down;) And thanks for making it so speedy! I love updates and new features but hate when steepster is down.
Also love the categories, but could each category have it’s own folder which we could click on to view the related threads. It’d be nice to not have to weild thru all the threads. And maybe since 52teas comes out w/ a new fantastic tea every week they could have their own folder?
Moving of posts made to the incorrect thread and removal of duplicates.
Yep, we need some type of moderation.
