Steepster Select #010 Giveaway
1 to 3 cups: usually I can tell by the first cup if it’s going to be something I love, like, or dislike. In fact, my favorite teas were all love at first sniff! However, if a tea gives a negative first impression I usually give it another shot: plus I try to steep leaves at least twice (usually 4+ steeps though) before tossing them so I end up drinking quite a few cups.
Usually only a cup or two. That said, some teas that were less than wonderful on the first tasting, I might leave in the cupboard for a few weeks or so and then try it again. Not because the tea might have changed, but because at times my reaction to it changes. Different states of mind, different times of the month etc. There have been teas that I disliked so much I didn’t even finish the cup, and then a few months later they were good. Not wonderful, but good enough to drink the sample quantity I had.
Maybe 3 or 4. I mean – quite often 1 cup is enough, but in some cases steeping time is important and some experimentation is necessary.
On the other hand, 1-2 cups is usually enough to decide that I don’t like something :)
It takes me about 2-3 cups of a tea. Sometimes more if I have an off day. It normally takes me 2-3 cups to figure out how to brew it right anyway.
Looks like I’m among the majority; 2-3 cups with occasional exceptions—-there are certain varieties of tea I’ve been trying for years and I’m still trying hard to like them.
For me it is usually only one cup. I can be finicky and smell alone can lead me to avoid certain teas. The ones that I thought by smell I wouldn’t like, but tried, have ended up disastrously…
Good question. Without getting too philosophical about how to define ‘like’ in this context, for me it takes a couple of brewing sessions. I have had a tea or two that WOWed me in the beginning, then seemed to loose its attraction later on (especially if it was a kind of novelty tea, or should I say, novelTEA?). I have also had a few teas I didn’t like right away for various reasons (brewed it wrong, was in an unpleasant emotional space, etc.), but which I liked when I had it again at a later time. So, yeah, it takes a few go-arounds before I decide I really like a tea, ADDITION: and since I almost always brew pots at a time (rather than cups) that would probably come out to about 4 – 8 cups.
Funny enough it can be as easy as one cup or as many as possible. Some I find repulsive at first sip…but you can never rule a tea out for sure.
