Electric Kettles

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for electric kettles that brew to specific temperatures? Like the varieTEA from Adagio, but waaay cheeper?

Thanks!
Ian

Mine is a Sunbeam Variable Temp Kettle which I got for Christmas. We found it at Home Hardware for $39.99 which is pretty reasonable for temp selection. It deals in celsius in 5 degree increments and I love it – Had nothing to tell temp before so this is a HUGE step up! : )

I don’t use electric kettles, but my stove-top kettle is one that brews to specific temps. It’s the one from Cuisinart and it is a bit pricey, Amazon.com has them for the cheapest that I’ve found. Despite the price on it, it is definitely worth it. I have the stainless steel version because I was having problems with old teakettles chipping enamel into my water and then into my tea…not good. I received the Cuisinart one for Christmas and I use it several times a day, everyday, and have had no problems with it. I do realize that you are asking specifically about electric kettles, but I wasn’t sure if you aware that there is a stove-top kettle out there that does have a temp gauge on it.

I decided to go with a Sharper Image Kettle back in December. I really love the convenience of how fast the water heats up to temperature. It has a timer to keep it at a certain temperature for 30 minutes as well, but will also heat to what you tell it to within 110-212 degrees Fahrenheit. In 10 degree increments (with 200-212 being the only 12 degree increment) Amazon currently has it listed for $68, cheaper than what I paid. Well worth it in my opinion.

I have a cheapo which works great and cost 19.99 and never fails and I guess I just got used to knowing the time and temp. Odd. But then black tea to the boil is an easy one, and I test out each tea as to how much time I like it at intervals without a timer. Gut instinct. My lefthandedness rearing up in an assertive way. I read the opinion of others but then try my own too.

I’m definitely going to be looking out for one when I move into a flat, if I ever use white tea and don’t want to pour boiling water all over it, I let my electric kettle cool and forget about haha. 1 hr later I remember I was going to have some tea!

You sound like me. I steep my tea and get to reading something and suddenly remember the tea maybe 15, 20 minutes later. Luckily, not all teas turn bitter!

I have the Presto Heat and Steep kettle. It has a thermometer inside with a needle that shows the temp of the water. I don’t steep my tea in it – but it seems very accurate for each type of tea. You can find some pretty good prices – here’s one link, but google it for the best prices http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_SPM2160058403P?sid=IDx20070921x00003a&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=00821737000

I also just got the Presto Heat and Steep Kettle. I got it a little cheaper at JR.com
So far I love it until I can afford the Breville one.

I bought the Presto myself and should have it on the 17th. I went on Amazon looking for a thermometer and that popped up That 1 click buying just gets me in trouble.

LOL you will like having it though :)

I keep telling myself that but it cut into my book buying this month

Consider this – the time it will save you in tea brewing will enable more book reading time for next month :) Or something like that – lol.

I have a Bodum kettle and while it doesn’t heat to a specific temperature, it heats really fast and I just pour the water from vessel to vessel to cool it however much is needed for the specific tea I’m brewing…
