Sipdown (1408)!
So much nope in a mug. As expected this was as awful as the rest of the matchas from this company – just a terrible stevia bomb of cloying sweetness in the most awful sort of way. It also didn’t taste like blueberry at all, which made it more disappointing because at least some of the other flavours had hints of what they were supposed to be.

Thank you Cameron B. for sharing this one with me! I just finished steeping it up so that I could sip on it while working on tasting notes, and I feel as though I’ve made an ill advised decision on what tea to drink. For a moment, however, it seemed like it was going to be okay: I opened up the portioned single serve of matcha and caught a whiff of sweet pineapple that smelled really good.
However I then proceeded to pour the water over the matcha and what I’m sure was a face of delight probably quickly turned into a scowl. This has the same nauseously sweet and cloying taste as all of the other matchas from Yum Matcha – just with a distinctly tropical pineapple note to the finish. We’ll see how I feel by the end of the mug, but I have to say that while this certainly doesn’t taste good it also is the most palatable of the flavours I’ve tried so far and has the strongest/most distinct fruit flavour. It’s pretty apparent that this is pineapple.
So props, small as they may be, where props are due.

The idea of a juicy or tart cranberry matcha is so appealing to me, but this was a big sad mug of nope. Like the Watermelon Matcha, the sweetening agent used by the company is so unbearably cloying and synthetic tasting that it makes the cup almost impossible to drink through. The only real difference between the two was this this one starts with a pointed tartness before immediately dropping into the realm of nope.
Still, thank you Cameron B. for sharing – it’s a good educational experience if nothing else, and probably prevented me from placing my own order and being even more disappointed.

Thank you Cameron B. for passing along these matchas!! I was super curious about some of the more unique flavours they carried, so I appreciate getting to try a handful. Unfortunately, I brewed this up and I immediately see exactly what you meant by how intensity off putting the sweet stevia flavour is. I barely tasted anything that could reasonably be called “watermelon” flavoured – it was just an assault of sweetness. I have a pretty high “stevia tolerance” as well, so I can only imagine the shock someone else with a less favorable attitude towards stevia may have gotten…
Also – I noticed that “colour” was one of the ingredients and I just can’t help but wonder why a company would have a need to colour their matcha!?
(But regardless – I’m still super grateful to have gotten to try this one!)

Prepared this one iced in 12 ounces of water. I figured lychee sounded like a nice refreshing flavor to try cold!
Unfortunately, I’m not getting lychee here. The stevia completely overpowers it so this tastes like slightly grassy stevia water.
Ick.

Happy March!
Trying this as a hot latte this morning. I’m honestly really surprised by how bland it is?
I taste a little bit of grassiness from the matcha, and the chalkiness from the stevia, but that’s about it really. I wouldn’t know it was raspberry, as I can only find the tiniest hint of flavor here. It’s somewhat sweet but not overwhelmingly so, as the milk helps to temper the sweetness.
But this is just really not good… :(
(P.S. – So excited that I added “chalk” to the flavor tags, so I can finally use it!)

Wait we can’t all add new flavor tags can we? haha it bugs me so much not having the right tag available.
Only the mods can. Sadly I was “approved” to be a mod but it was at a point where the site was so broken Jason couldn’t switch my account, so now I don’t get to be a mod. :-(
Back in the day I sent in tons of e-mails with the “form” button to add flavors and ingredients, and after years on the site, not a single one was ever added. Made me discouraged so I just quit entirely.

Trying this one this morning as an iced latte. I only added 12 ounces of liquid – a mixture of whole milk and water – and mixed it up using the cold stir setting on my trusty milk frother!
Well, the matcha flavor is stronger, which is nice, but it’s just way too sweet for me. The matcha base seems okay, it has a strong grassy flavor but isn’t bitter (or at least, not with a cold preparation). Peach flavor seems yummy, definitely a bit candylike, but I’m okay with that.
I’m finding the level of sweetness similar to the DAVIDsTEA flavored matcha line. However, these have stevia included, and I can really taste it, which isn’t pleasant. It has a sort of powdery, chalky note to it. I’m not sure why it’s necessary given it would be perfectly sweet enough with just the erythritol, which has a more natural sweet taste to it.
Stevia, harrumph!

I got my Yum Matcha sampler pack! I fully expect these to not be great, but I couldn’t help ordering as the sampler includes fun flavors like pineapple, cranberry, and lychee, which aren’t generally offered as matcha. These are also sweetened, and apparently it’s a mix of erythritol and stevia… Hm…
So this was the first to be tried! I didn’t want to start with one of the ones I was most excited about, so mango seemed a good choice. And good thing too, as I stupidly mixed it with too much water…
The packet recommends 16 ounces, and I made it in my 20-ounce tumbler. I ended up filling it all the way, oops! So this is quite weak. The sweetness doesn’t seem too overwhelming, and I can still taste the matcha and the mango. There is a slight powdery taste to it though, I assume from one of the sweeteners. So that’s a bummer.
We’ll have to see how the other flavors go with less water!

I went to order the two samplers, because they’ve got some really unique flavours, but they don’t ship to Canada :( I guess I should be relieved that it saved me some money, but damn I want to try Strawberry Basil and Lychee matcha!
