I detest the taste of chamomile, but drink it occasionally due to my insomnia. This is one of those blends that has enough flavoring to cover up the taste of the chamomile: all you really taste is apple and cinnamon. The flavor is a bit weak and artificial, but it gets the job done!
Flavors: Apple, Cinnamon
Preparation
I really like this tea so much! Such a lovely flavour and one of my favourites!! I don’t drink this as often now as I am staying away from caffeine most of the time, but this is so pleasant!
I drink this with milk and sugar/sweetener.
Flavors: Bergamot
That is first tea I have pleasure to fall in love with. Before I drunk tea in teabags :). This tea is pretty strong and has nice aroma. It’s not very expensive… and it’s available in common markets. Very good for beginners. Reccomeded :)
Flavors: Bergamot, Dark Bittersweet
Preparation
Hmm.
Ok, so I impulse-bought this on the way into the office because the only thing I’m keeping permanently deskside at the moment is a pair of oolongs, and neither go with milk, and sometimes you just want something milky, and it was Monday morning, and I was weak.
I’m sure I should have checked the ingredients before buying, because I sure as heck don’t see any chunks of spices in this, as I’d expect in a chai – whole cloves, bits of cinnamon bark, ginger pieces, cardamom seeds, whatever – and the ingredients list reads “black tea, vanilla, spice, and syrup flavourings (26%).” Huh. Syrup flavouring?
Bananas. Oh my god, what’s with the bananas. This is the second time I’ve had something that calls itself a chai that my brain just tastes as lightly spicy bananas. Like, straight out of the bag I get this REALLY strong whiff of bananas. It smells like the tupperware of banana oat muffins I ate my way through last week. There is no mention of banana on the ingredients list. Why am I getting banana?
There’s a coffee shop in the city centre that does gorgeous coffee and lovely loose-leaf teas from a local company I’m normally fond of (indeed, their Bombay Chai has added bay leaf and tastes like it’s got whole spices in it) but I suspect this might well be what the cafe uses for their vanilla chai latte, because the banana-ness is identical.
Because it tastes like it’s supposed to be a banana tea when I drink it too, either that or somebody stuck a banana in the tea leaves and let it ripen. I’ve done it as per the package directions, hot and very milky, and it’s a bit sweet and creamy and there’s some spicy warmth, but not really any specific spices I can pick out. Maybe the syrup flavouring is uncannily like banana? I have no clue, but as a banana tea goes I’d probably still go for Bluebird’s Monkey Chops or Banana Bake from T2. And I wasn’t looking for a banana tea today, I was looking for a chai, so this is disappointing on all counts. It’s drinkable inasmuch as it’s sweet and milky and not wholly offensive, but man, it’s otherwise just kind of weird.
Twinings, no.
Really good if you don’t have time to steep a proper pot of tea or if you want an afternoon pick-me-up that won’t shoot caffeine through your veins like a hardy English Breakfast. It’s especially good with a splash of milk.
Flavors: Citrus, Honey
Preparation
When I was much younger (think single digit age), this tea was a treat. Now that I am buying my own, this is my basic tea. It’s strong enough to go with copious amounts of milk, or as a cold strong lemon tea. It still tastes good even when over-steeped by my fiancé who always leaves the bag in the cup. It’s basically my pantry staple. I buy the tea bags.
Preparation
Refreshing, but doesn’t hold up against loose leaf teas. It’s worth spending an extra couple of pounds to buy a better quality equivalent.
Flavourwise, the additions of tangerine and grapefruit remind me more of a citrus Lady Grey than traditional Earl Grey, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.Flavors: Citrus
Post breakfast while watching The Paradise. There is a nice scent of bergamot and other fruit. Perhaps grapefruit. The flavour is a bright citrus.
It would be good with cookies.
Flavors: Bergamot, Citrus, Cookie, Lemon, Orange
Not bad. Toasty, a bit caramel, a bit salt. But the green tea is just so… green. I’d infinitely prefer this as a black tea.
Thanks for sharing, MissB!
I’m with you on that, most of the time, I think “why couldn’t this be a black tea?”…. Green…bleh. Unless it’s Jasmine
I find it frustrating to not like green teas, because there are so many neat flavours that end up being green! I guess it does prevent me from buying a lot, though. :)
And the very few Bigelow teas I have seen here in Canada have only been like EG and/or some breakfast blend.
Drank this tea this morning with a splash of grapefruit juice! I very much enjoy this tea. It’s such an easy cup to sip in the morning. Something comfortable and familiar about the tea base. It doesn’t make a bold cup but somehow that works with the lemon overtone. This tea will always be an easy choice for me.
Preparation: Bagged tea. Honey to sweeten. Splash of grapefruit juice. (confession: I left the bag in the cup and drank around it)
Flavors: Citrus, Grapefruit, Lemon, Tea
