drank Thoroughly Minted by Twinings

According to the Twinings website, this is 70% peppermint and 30% spearmint, but I’m getting mostly a sweet peppermint vibe. It mostly just tastes like peppermint. It is a good cup, but nothing special.

Flavors: Drying, Menthol, Peppermint, Sweet

This is a review of the sachet version (not sure if it is offered any other way)

My Twinings sipdown continues as I work through more samples. The tea smells very fruity (green apple), with some notes of nectar and tropical fruit. I’m not actually sure what elderflower tastes like, but I really like this tea.

This produces a very light coloured green-yellow brew with notable floral, green apple, nectar, and green tea notes. It is a bit herbaceous (green apple + elderflower pieces + green tea all contribute I think). I like the light fruit and floral flavours combined. It does best with a short steep (2 minutes) or a short coldbrew. It resteeps well and takes milk well (but is best enjoyed plain).

drank Salted Caramel Green Tea by Twinings
2986 tasting notes

A nutty, toasty green tea with notes of bok choy, seaweed, and mulberry leaf.

The salt and caramel are really well done. I don’t know if this is the base I would use (too vegetal), but it does make a nice cup.

drank Fudge Melts by Twinings
2986 tasting notes

This is my least favourite of the indulgant teas. Green tea just doesn’t suit it at all, black or oolong would have been a much better choice.

I don’t get any fudge/chocolate from this, but I do taste some generic creamy and sweet (condensed milk), lemon, floral notes, and something really difficult to place. I think it closely resembles incense or a scented candle shop? It is actually a bit off-putting. The flavours seem to conflict and have nothing to do with fudge.

The green base really comes through, it is vegetal, but also has floral notes and pepper?, something resembling seaweed/ocean. It is just such a weird mixture of flavours, what were they thinking with this blend?

mmmm this is a delicious and true-to-the-name dessert tea.

The green tea is nice and buttery. I forgot about the teabag and steeped it 3.5-4 minutes, which turned the green a bit astringent. It isn’t bitter or astringent when resteeped for the recommended 2 minutes.

I get lots of overripe cherry, vanilla, marzipan, shortbread, almond, butter. Also some notes of brown sugar, cherry blossom/something delicate and floral, peach, and pastry. I would have preferred less almond/marzipan (not a fan of almonds or marzipan), but this is excellent hot and cold (let the tea chill for the second steep). I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a box of this is I made a future Twinings order (or found it in stores).

TL;DR Everything you could want and more, really good hot and iced

drank Sleep by Twinings

This is a nice herbal. I enjoyed trying to figure out the different herbs in it-I could pick out the lemon verbena (thought it was lemon mint and lemon grass), chamomile, lavender, and spices. Apparently there was cinnamon, hops, linden leaf, and vanilla bean. The recipe is quite interesting, but worth trying.

There’s only so much you can say about a teabag of rooibos. Lightly sweet, woody, oats (bran?), brown sugar, honey, dry wood chips. It tastes like any other rooibos. I happen to really like rooibos and enjoyed this cup

I liked this at first, but found it ended up getting very sour at the bottom of the cup. I think it would be best consumed iced and maybe sweetened. The strawberry flavours is great-not artificial or blah, but I would use more mango. I’m getting more dried fruit and peach vibes than specifically mango.

Flavors: Fruity, Hibiscus, Strawberry

Nattie

I noticed the same about the strawberry with this tea. I tried it with sweetener and it was far too much for me, but that was my bad for not trying it before adding the sweetener. It just smelled so sour!

Wow this tea has a long name, but it doesn’t taste nearly as complex as the name would have you believe. I get mostly chamomile-hay, citrus, maybe hints of dried fennel seed, but unfortunately not as much fennel as I was hoping for. This mostly tastes of chamomile.

Another sipdown of a somewhat boreing, but tasty tea. I’ve had this twice, both times with milk.

It is bitter if only had plain, but it is sweet and smooth if you add soy milk. There is some malt, but not as much as I like in a black tea. I do find the flavour to be as intense as the caffeinated English Breakfast, however I’ve never tried the caffeinated All Day blend.

Super malty, slightly sweet, and delicious by itself or as a latte. No bitterness at all, and lots of flavour. While it is a generic malty black tea, I do get some baked bread and creamy notes. This is one of the better bagged black teas I’ve had, and I can taste how fresh it is (probably this year’s harvest).

I’m really impressed with how fresh and tasty the teabags are from Twinings in the UK. The ones available in stores in N.A, are not even close to as fresh + usually have a lower quality base. The teas I’ve tried that I ordered from the UK Twinings site have been as good as looseleaf, while the bagged teas I can buy on Amazon or in a grocery store are of lesser quality. If you want to try Twinings teas, buy directly from the UK site and pay a few bucks more for shipping. The quality and freshness are really worth it.

This actually does taste a lot like garden mint (like the English mint or Spearmint you would pick out of your garden). I’ve experimented with drying my own mint leaves or brewing them fresh, but both taste completely different from bagged teas. Finally I have found a bagged tea that is super fresh and exactly like my experiences with homemade dried mint leaves. I really enjoyed how bright this tea is-it almost has hints of lemon (lemon mint?) in it. Very tasty and possibly the freshest mint tea you can find.

These Twinings “Indulgence” green teas are actually really good. This one is very heavy on the ginger (I love the spice!), some caramelized sugar and icing sugar flavour, but no gingerbread or cookie flavour. The base is buttery and very pleasant, although not overpowering at all. I wouldn’t call it gingerbread without the cookie flavour, but I love how spicy the ginger is.

drank Nutty Chocolate Assam by Twinings
2986 tasting notes

mmmm Twinings does this chocolate tea right. I’m getting dark chocolate (cocoa, carob, baking chocolate), a lot of nuttiness that can best be described as toasted hazelnuts, almonds, and Brazil nuts. The base is thick and malty, but also very drying on my tongue and a bit astringent. However it is creamy, so that’s quite nice for a desserty tea. I’m thinking this would take milk well to balance out the robust Assam base, however I’m disappointing I can’t enjoy a smooth and balanced cup plain.

Props to Twinings for recommending this be brewed no more than 2 minutes and enjoyed without milk.

My Twinings order arrived yesterday! I bought individual teabags (pick and mix) of about 20 flavours that I can’t get in North America. Only one bag of each. I’m trying as many as I can today so I don’t have to add them to my cupboard/spreadsheet, because that is a hassle for 1 teabag.

I am not normallyi nto green teas and I don’t like apple flavoured candy/soaps, but I actually love this tea. I would consider buying more of it, especially if they had a decaf green option. The apple flavour is not acidic or artificial, the caramel flavour is bright and reminds me of brown sugar and the thin caramel sauce that my grandmother would make for us to put on icecream. The apple is actually paired very well with the green base, the green tea isn’t bitter or unpleasant at all.

Other tea companies take note: you can use apple in a blend without making it sour or artificial.

Using up my one teabag of this tea that I was kindly given by Arby (who is a good friend of mine in person)! She scored me a multitude of single teabag Twinings tea from a hotel, so that was pretty awesome. It’s my first time trying this tea.

I really love mint teas, especially peppermint, so I was very happy to find that even though this is a peppermint and spearmint blend, the spearmint is more subtle than the peppermint and adds just a bit of sweetness, which is quite nice. It’s not a particularly special tea, but good if you like high menthol teas. I find it’s best when piping hot!

Flavors: Menthol, Peppermint, Spearmint, Sweet

Preparation

I find I can barely taste the spearmint. If I didn’t now better, I would think this was plain peppermint. At least it is strong enough to take milk, brew iced, or brew hot. Really, though, most peppermint teas taste the same.

Matcha Manic O.o

The spearmint is really subtle but I can still taste it in there, since it’s got more of that sweet menthol taste than Peppermint does. Peppermint is really strong but not the same kind of sweet as spearmint. I can definitely tell the difference between this and my Murchie’s peppermint.

drank Vanilla Tea by Twinings

The very first impression is great – the bag smells wonderful, like a freshly cut vanilla bean.
After brewing the vanilla component is still nice, but there are also some wet cardboard notes, rather unpleasant.
The taste is sweetish, a bit malty, with no bitterness nor astringency.
All in all it’s not bad.
