First time in my life drinking tea with milk. Actually not bad and less weird that i have imagined. Goes well with pure black tea. I don’t know if i hit the right combo. Needs more experimenting. But i wont mind doing that ;)
Preparation
I stole few teabags from dad. Never really liked basic black teas. Figured i should give it a try again after trying so many different teas lately.
Color – dark clear red.
No particular smell but i got a bad cold so that might easily be a false statement.
For start trying it hot without adding sugar, lemon or milk. Never tried tea with milk tho. Kinda curious about that. OK I’ve tried it and doesn’t seam bad but no point in writing about it because i still don’t have my taste back. I can just barely tell how it tastes (not as sour and strong as i remember). Being sick makes it healthy to drink teas but also slightly harder to enjoy them ;)
Give it another try in few days…
Preparation
Twinings Loose Leaf Earl Grey was my ever first brew of a loose leaf tea. Many consider this tea to be the “classic original” of the Earl Greys, and in my book it earns the title. I brew it like any black, boiling for five minutes, its’ leaf quality is questionable, but the taste compensates. Red amber liquor, citrusy aroma of bergamot, with a tinge of appropriate muskiness.
This tea is damn fine with milk and a bit of sweetener, but could be taken straight if you like the astringency, you could cut the brew time if you don’t want it so bold. As with all tea with milk I put a spot of WHOLE milk, pour the tea, and add agave nectar or honey~this cup + a dry baked good of some sort (shortbread, scone, muffin) is a decent balance. If Twining’s produced this organically I would make it a staple over Rishi’s Supreme Earl Grey.
Preparation
I love this tea. I had a hard time finding it, but I finally got my hands on a box today. I was actually surprised the first time I tried it. I didn’t think I’d like it since I don’t like Earl Grey. Even my ex-boyfriend likes it, and he doesn’t like black tea at all.
I think I’m hooked on this thing! I tried it without milk, and it is still very good. Although I usually don’t like citrus in general, I think bergamot really has a distinctive character that sets it apart from other citrus fruits. It produces a very elegant fragrance which is perfect to be sniffing at in the morning.
Add: Rated it down a bit because it sometimes tasted like iron if that makes any sense. It’s weird, but was quite unpleasant nontheless.
Add2: I don’t think I can drink this particular Earl Grey without milk anymore. The metallic taste was just too much when drunk straight. Adding milk solves the problem entirely.
Preparation
Have had the same metallic taste before. In my case it was steeping it in a cheap metal teapot. The insides had corroded without me realising. :)
But I do know what you mean. Nice review.
If you get the chance, try Earl Grey Supreme by Harney and Sons. Ecstacy! The tea base is amazing, and the bergamot is juuuuuuust right.
I’ll definitely take note of your recommendation for my future H&S purchase. So far Earl Grey has been a “meh” tea for me but I guess it could still change.
Yum. This is sort of my first “official” Earl Grey, since I’ve only had the Earl Greys in teabags sold at Tim Hortons until now. The tea leaves had a very nice aroma with the bergamot certainly showing its presence. I had this with milk today and it was an awesome combination. I’ll have it without milk tomorrow and see how the tea tastes in its pure form.
Preparation
Well I will start by saying that I am not a big fruit, flower and herbal tea drinker. So this may be my inexperience with these teas showing or my palate hasn’t adapted to appreciate this tea, but, it was really not nice. I hate to use words like vile as that would be me forcing my opinion a bit.
This tea wasn’t for me, smelled quite nice out of the box, a bit like jelly or sweets. But like all the fruit/herbal/flower teas I have had, the smell was great but the flavour didn’t deliver. Weak and a tad bitter it was akin to watered down fruits of the forest squash. I brewed it for 2 and half minutes which is right between the recommended time for it but ended up trying to steep for longer to try and increase the flavours. The flavours did get stronger but so did the bitterness so it was a marred success.
I’m sure the echinacea with its flouted medicinal benefits was probably good for me, but I don’t think its worth drinking this to get it.
Maybe a nice iced tea or made into jelly, sorbet or some other cold tea based offering but fails to impress me as a warm beverage.

Still have the stuffy nose / head cold so things may be stronger than I think.
This was a gift from Janefan.
Not too bad, I also wasn’t expecting much from a bagged tea. For a go to bagged tea at work this is a good green tea. I don’t think I’d buy this – but I am glad to have a stash of it for now. Next time I think I may sweeten it and steep 2 minutes instead of 3.
Post-Steep Additives: none
Preparation
My 1st honeybush and my 1st Twinings tea! For really not being that much of an orange person, I dunno what’s up w/ all these orange teas I’m drinking lately. Not only am I drinking a lot (like usual) of mandarin matcha, I’ve also had orange sencha this week- and now this.
I find it funny that this says it’s flavored w/ mandarin and orange. Isn’t mandarin a type of orange? When I take it out of the wrapper, I definitely smell orange- but I also smell a little bit of spice… is that the honeybush base?
1 bag/6oz almost boiling water, 5 min. The liquor is a reddish camel color and the aroma is almost exactly that of the raw leaf. It smells slighlty of orange jello, but there is definitely a more complex, grounded base to it.
Yay for consistancy! This tastes exactly like I was expecting it too. It still has a little jello aspect to it, but it’s also very rich and complex. If you love orange and honeybush, this is a must try.
Preparation
This tea is fantastic! I guess I could call this my introduction to black tea since I used to go for only green, although I’ve had black tea sometime before. This tea has a very full-bodied taste, which was not too strong nor too weak. I really couldn’t ask for more when it comes to a good basic cup of black tea. Oh, and I learned that I don’t really like milk in black tea either because it seems to mask some of the tea’s unique flavor and it brings down the temperature a little. Anyways, this cup was enjoyable enough to convert me to a black tea drinker from green!
Add: My initial taste note of this tea was full of praise, but now that I’ve had more experience with black teas, I just don’t think this is strong enough. I can visually see this after I’ve finished the cup and see that it doesn’t leave much of a stain as other strong black teas. It’s still good enough for what you can easily get at the supermarket though.
Preparation
A full tin of this is all the tea I have left, at work.
Eventhough I added almost three heaping teaspoons of this in my 12oz mug, the flavor still isn’t very strong. But it isn’t bitter either. So I guess it’s okay. Kind of bland. But it’s better than no tea at all.
If you like a simple, mild black tea scented with just a smidgen of bergamot, then this is for you.
I guess I’m just used to the newfangled “super” Earl Greys from the newer tea companies because I’m surprised on how light on the bergamot this is! Even the black tea taste is light. This seems like such a dainty, weak little tea.
Is this how Earl Grey is supposed to taste like? If so, I guess it’s too “refined” for my taste! ;)
I’m a big Earl Grey fan, my normal everyday tea is a mix of 3/4 black tea with a 1/4 Earl Grey and its magic every time.
Twinings seemed to have cracked it with this blend as the bergamot isn’t overpowering nor is it lost amongst the tea itself.
Really a top blend and my preferred premium Earl Grey.
Preparation
I have heard so much about the amazing effects and soothing qualities of Camomile so I thought I would give it a go.
Well the flavour was really watery and it reminded me of how you dilute down squash for toddlers. Not really anything there except a slightly bitter and herbal flavour. As my mum would put it, its a ‘lawnmower tea’.
Decided that that may have been a fluke or bad bag so tried again but with honey this time to sweeten it a bit. I reasoned that the flavour may use the sweetness to bring itself out. The honey made it slightly more drinkable.
Maybe its an acquired taste but this really isn’t the tea for me.
Preparation
Oh wow…this tea is pretty darn good, even though it’s from a teabag and decaf. I wasn’t even keeping track of how long I steeped it, but I think it steeped pretty long, in boiling water…yet not a bit of bitterness! I added in some milk and Splenda, and the tea is strong enough to handle it. It tastes creamy, orangey, sugary, and flowery. It’s late, and I apologize if this note is just blah. But the tea itself? Good enough that it’s making me feel better since my kitty, who peed all over her own winter coat fur bloomers, backed up into my leg 5 minutes ago and got pee on me. :(
(Side note….should I take her for a haircut? It’s the middle of winter, but my apartment is really warm…)
Preparation
Aww, poor kitty. My oldest can’t really groom herself anymore and she’s long haired so we keep her shaved. In the winter she wears sweaters.
Wait wtf my comment got messed up… I typed Ashes (less than three heart) and then that Wendy is normally good at keeping clean, and she managed to pee in the box, but it’s icky how her back legs got soaked.
By the way, the fact that kitty sweaters exist is making me want to shave my cat, just for the hell of it. :)
lol…poor kitty! both of my cats are short hair, so i’m going to give them an extra hug for not ever getting pee on me. glad your tea kept you in good spirits.
I actually think even the bagged Earl Grey is quite okay. Or it could be because I had the Tazo version earlier and it made me cringe. But for some reason I like this with not boiling water. Perhaps I just have a really weird tongue.
Preparation
A good ‘wake up’ tea, a lighter tea than I normally drink but its perfect to clear away the cobwebs. I don’t think I have tasted the maltyness mentioned but then I have never really looked for it.
Quite a, and I hate to use this term, meaty tea, it’s a substantial tea that won’t disappoint and its often one of few English teas readily supplied when you go abroad. Not that I’m saying I won’t sample the local teas as well its just that most hotel through it in for free, and I’m not one to turn down free tea.
