I have not had many Talbott’s Teas – honestly I don’t know if I have had any. This was a great introduction to the brand as I do enjoy this tea.
Caramel Sundae Escape from Talbott’s Tea is a mellow, caramel tea that has absolutely no astringency or bitterness. It is sweet but not overly so. The chocolate notes are slight, if you are really wanting chocolate decadence this may not be the exact tea for you but the chocolate notes are present. This is by far more a caramel tea, and after all it is named Caramel Sundae Escape. However it is part of the Chocolate Lover’s collection so some may be a little disappointed it is not more chocolatey!
Regardless, this is a really delicious cup! I was surprised at just how many bits were in the blend, plenty of caramel chunks for sure!
i can’t wait for my swap/box from TEB – pretty sure she put in a few talbott teas for me to try. woot woot!
i mean..she hasn’t mailed it yet lol because i told her not to worry about it until “whenever” but it’s out there..waiting to come to me…“someday” hahaha When i get home i’m also going to put together my care package for you guys. I will likely send it to one of you since i know you shift things around between the 3 of you fairly often. But i have teas for all three sisters :)
You guys are good to the noobies and others. :) I just need to get organized once i’m home with all my swaps and tea cupboard and the like.
lol let me know if you figure out the trick to making that happen! ;)
I work on it daily.
Bought another tea cup at an antique store yesterday! WHY? when I have at least half of my collection hidden away. Now I had to sneak this into my cabinet lol it never stops between the tea, the accessories, well you know … :)
I received a sampling box of Talbot teas for Christmas that I forgot to input to my cupboard and this one was the first of the lot of them that I tried. I rarely find myself disappointed in a breakfast tea. From English to Irish and now Paris, they are all delectable. Paris Breakfast, while very similar to both it’s British Isles cousins, has more in common with English Breakfast in my opinion. In short, it’s a very good cuppa. _
Sipdown, 244. I am sipping down this and another fruity rooibos that I got in a swap, although I no longer remember exactly from whom. Seems like it could have been an envelope from TeaEqualsBliss? In any case, thanks who ever sent it.
I am coming to the conclusion that fruity rooibos is not for me. Generically tart fruity? Check. Smells like cough medicine? Check. Oh well, I know what to avoid, now.
Preparation
Behold a tea which actually manages to smell like chocolate. I could sip this after a yoga session or at night because the black tea is quite subdued by its small quantity in the teabag. I had it on a cold day after wheatgrass which imparts an effervescence to the maltiness of the leaves and the moist strawberry. Then again I could have imagined all of that…
It really is a wonderful tea, but not what I expected. I don’t really taste any caramel or cocoa or salt, but it’s such a fine, slightly smokey, black tea, I don’t mind at all. There some very subtle hints that do mellow it out and maybe a touch of vanilla that leaves a slightly sweet aftertaste that makes it wonderfully smooth . If your looking for a Tea Forte type dessert tea with cocoa, this isn’t it, but I must say I am loving it anyway. It smells like a wonderfully, mellow, smokey black tea. I usually like black teas with milk, but I like this plain. I like the small tins. No extra wasted empty space in them and they stack nice.
Yumm!!! Can I say new favorite! This tea smells and tastes just like creamsicles! I love it. It is a little bland compared to the smell without honey, but add a tsp of raw honey and it is delicious! I could drink this tea everyday! I haven’t tried it cold yet, but I imagine it would make a great summer time iced tea.
thanks again for sending this one a while back, TeaEqualsBliss! I waited a while to write a steeping note for this one. I wanted to try it again because the first cup was underwhelming. I guess I expect more flavor for the price! I steeped for 15 minutes at boiling, and I’m not sure there is any caramel or chocolate flavor here. The malty black tea is decent enough, but like I said, underwhelming. But this is why tea swaps are so great: you get to try teas without having to buy whole ounces of it! :D (Also, this may or may not have absorbed the flavor of Adagio’s White Cucumber: they are both in baggies and this one was next to it! I’ll have to move it later today…I was planning on reorganizing anyway!)
Preparation
thanks so much Dinosara for the trade! This sure smells chocolatey, both in the leaves and steeped. The steep color is a lighter brown, which seems too light for a black tea! It seems to me that Tabott doesn’t have that much flavor. I tried another of their teas before. I actually didn’t want to write a steeping note before giving that one another chance. This one basically tastes just like that one, even if it’s a different flavor. It’s hard to tell if I’m steeping it wrong, since there are no instructions on their site. But this smells more like chocolate than it tastes. The strawberry flavor is just hinted at. It seems there should be more flavor for the price. On the second steep, I used just boiled water and steeped for a LONG time. The result was the same… but at least it never had any astringency to it. I think when I use fresh leaves the next time I’ll just go for the long steep with just boiled water the first time. Disappointing, but I appreciate being able to try it!
Final hotel tea. I liked it! I, for some reason, drink a lot of blueberry teas and this one held up as a decent cup. If I’m going to order blueberry tea, it’d probably be the bar harbor blend. But I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to pick this up if I saw it somewhere.
Another hotel tea, but perhaps my favorite. The strawberry is more pronounced than any other strawberry flavored tea I’ve had. It doesn’t seem artificial either. The tea (for me, at least) had just a hint of chocolate, which is a balance that seemed to be pretty good. With a bit of sugar, this is really a nice cuppa.
I am at a hotel for a conference, and Talbott Teas are what they have at the breaks. I’ve tried three of them, all flavored (they don’t seem to have non-flavored here). This one, in bag form, seems to be called “Green Tea Indulgence” but matches this description exactly. It’s fruit flavored, you can see the fruit pieces in the bag, and it’s good. It’s more flavored than green, but not a bad cup if that’s what you’re expecting.
I know! I was pretty impressed. I normally bring my own but forgot this time, so it was a pleasant surprise!
this tea was from a tea swap from DinoSara that i just received today and it was the first one i wanted to try!!! Im tasting more strawberry then chocolate Its a Light taste though and its good Its like a Soft Desert! I love this tea!! Sadly i only got 2 sips before we ran out of the house to get the new World of Warcraft Mist of Pandaria lol Home and going to make some more now
Playing catch up — I get so wrapped up in the moment that I forget to log the experience. I have brewed this up several times and find it to be “OK” — that is pretty good from me, since I am not a huge fan of anything strawberry. It is a nice one to share with friends.
Preparation
This is a very pleasant Earl Grey rooibos. The rooibos is sweet and slightly nutty but the flavor doesn’t intrude onto the bergamot which is important to me as I LOVE bergamot.
This is remarkably satisfying for a rooibos blend. There is an earthiness to the background that gives it some solidity, it doesn’t taste as rich or strong as a black tea, of course, but it has a certain substance to it … it doesn’t taste thin like some rooibos blends that I’ve tried. This is pretty darned good!
Earl Grey rooibos… interesting! I guess oversteeping wouldn’t be a problem with such a tea? (I seem to often forget about earl greys and steep them too long).
Argh, Steepster ate my tasting note!
I’m trying this one again before I send most of it off in a swap. I remember enjoying this tea, but I also never was drawn back to it, so I decided to find it a better home.
This is a really tasty tea, all caramelly and a bit chocolatey, with a decent black tea base. Yummy, but I don’t really crave it, so I’m happy to send it off to someone who might appreciate it more.
Preparation
I managed to score a Talbott’s gift set via SimplyJenW, so I’m happy to be able to try this tea finally. I love their Chocolate Almond Allure a lot, so this one sounded promising. It seems similar except for the vanilla flavoring instead of almonds. My tin also had some apple pieces in it, despite there not being anything about apples in the ingredients list.
The steeped tea smells like a caramelly black tea with some chocolatey cacao-nibby notes to it. It smells more like an unflavored black with those notes than a flavored tea, and the notes seem to mesh very well together. Flavor is nicely caramel with some dark cacao notes. This tea isn’t really super chocolatey to me, but there are cocoa notes if that makes sense. I don’t get distinct vanilla, but I feel like it’s in there helping the caramel be really creamy… kind of like when I make caramels and add vanilla extract, it doesn’t make the caramels taste vanilla-y. The black tea base is robust and a bit toasty as well, but suuuuper smooth. Overall a very tasty cup. Not quite as good as Chocolate Almond Allure, but pretty delicious nonetheless.
