Name: Assam S.F.T.G.F.O.P.1 1st flush Birjhora
Supplier: Rutland Tea Co.
Notes on Tea When Dry: Smallish leaves with some but not lots of golden tips
How Prepared: Four tsp. for 4 cups of water
Water Temperature: 95 degrees celcius
Steep Time: 4 minutes
Colour: Fairly light for an Assam. Light Bronze.
Aroma: Light and sweet
Milk?: Not this time
Tasting Notes:
Light and sweet taste, with moderate astringency. It has the faintest hint of spice – a lot more subtle than the Sikkim “Temi” I was enjoying last night. As I sip through my first cup from the pot, I’m noticing an increasing level of astringency. There is a hint of spice also. I like this tea – not outstanding, but comfortingly pleasant; enough to remove the days cares and worries – and that’s nice.
Preparation
As soon as I opened the foil packaging i was hit by the chocolately orange aroma of this tea. These flavours are present once the tea has been steeped also. I have tried it both with and without milk (personally, I prefer it without on reflection). It’s not overly astringent to be drunk black. With or without milk, the first taste is of floral oranges with a pleasant warm claylike afteraste. Highly recommended!
*Edit: I’ve just made myself a cup of this some two days after the above review. Today I steeped in cup, with the lid from my gaiwan on top (it fits one of my cups perfectly!) with leaves in a ball infuser. As opposed to the above review which was from a teapot. Anyways, I wanted to remark on the flavour, which above i described as chocolately orange. No – it’s pineapple today. Warming, sweet pineapple – i’m astonished I didn’t recognise it last time. Another beautiful cuppa… I urge you to buy some of this tea!
