President's Choice

A good, cost effective white tea. A nice, light taste. Nothing fancy but sometimes that’s a good thing. Easy on the palate and easy on the wallet. A good combination in my book! Easily found in any grocery store that sells President’s Choice products.

This tea is inexpensive and yummy. It doesn’t really taste like what you would expect a tea called Chocolatey Chai to taste like but it’s still good. There is a definite chocolate smell but when you taste it it’s more of a sweet taste than chocolate.

Finally: sipdown.

Not all that upset to see this one go. It isn’t even all that good as far as bagged supermarket teas go. I won’t be re-buying.

Adios, box of tea!

Well, I’ve got to admit. Whenever I have a “tropical” green tea, I’m always disappointed. I bought this box of tea a looooong time ago, before I really got into tea. It’s been sitting in the pantry ever since because I was obviously unimpressed with it years ago, too.

Now I’m just trying to get through it without throwing the rest of the box out. The tropical flavour is…I can’t figure out what. Certainly not tropical. Maybe a bit like orange? I don’t taste pineapple (clearly illustrated on the box) at all. Lemon flavour is also a stretch. It also has a really wicked aftertaste…and I don’t mean “wicked” in the good sense. I mean it in the “what the hell is that taste in my mouth” sense.

Verdict: will not buy again.

An ok tea :) the peach and ginger is good

A sample from KittyLovesTea. Last cup of the day at work. I found this one a bit of an odd duck while hot, but as it cooled it seemed to settle down. It brewed up pretty dark, which suprised me. It’s a herbal, so I just dumped the bag in boiling water and hoped for the best. I found chicory an odd ingredient here, and it might be responsible for the slightly weird flavour I detected initially, but it’s an undeniably lemony tea. It’s a little sour as well, so quite accurate lemon, rather than over sweetened or candied lemon.

I think this one would be really refreshing on a hot day, and even better cold. As lemon teas go, it’s a good one. I’m not over-awed or anything, but it’s a nice tea to have tried. Thanks to KittyLovesTea for sharing it with me!

I purchased this tea as a caffeine free substitute for PC’s Chocolatey Mint black tea. Alone, this tea does not have a great taste. I flavour it with Silk French Vanilla soy for coffee to make a cheap chai tea imitation and it tastes great. I prefer the black tea a bit more though.

I think I bought this thinking it was the Astralagus and Ginseng tea because it has the same bamboo border (WHY do companies do this?!) and when I pulled it out of the cupboard I was surprised to find it was something completely different. Ah, well. It can’t be THAT bad.

When I smelled the dry bag, I got a whiff of camomile. Which is weird, because it’s not on the ingredients list. So now my nose AND my eyes are playing tricks on me. Mint leaves are the first ingredient, so that was surprising. Didn’t smell that at all. But I did pick up on the lemongrass. I like lemongrass. This can’t all be bad.

You know what it reminded me of? A weird version of Yellow Dragon by David’s Tea. Since I really like Yellow Dragon, this is not disappointing to me. Actually, pretty awesome that I can buy it in a bag at about 1/4 the price for a quick-n-dirty version of the tea. And minus the caffeine. Like Yellow Dragon, I was equally disappointed that mint leaves were on the ingredients list but I had to concentrate really hard to FIND the mint in the tea. Maybe I didn’t steep long enough. I’ll try longer next time. The rest of the flavours, though (which seems like everything from the “herbal shelf” except camomile), were all yummy. I couldn’t really taste the licorice in it, but then again I also like black licorice. So I wouldn’t have been all that upset to have tasted it. I just might not have noticed. It also made me happy that there was marshmallow root in it (which is technically marsh mallow root, but who ever said grocery store superchains were botanically correct even a quarter of the time?!) until I realized that I don’t actually know what marshmallow root tastes like. So…nevermind on that one, I guess. It tastes like something. We’ll go with that.

Verdict: would re-buy.

I find this tea tastes like licorice with a side of…“something”. Sure, a bit of cinnamon and a bit of apple, but that’s certainly not the predominant taste I get. I wanted this to taste either like apple cider or apple crisp, and it tastes like neither.

I’m disappointed. I didn’t have very high expectations for $1.49 for a bag of 20, but still. If I wanted a black licorice tea, I would have bought one. It’s not terrible, it’s just not what I wanted.

Verdict: wouldn’t re-buy because I like others much, much better.
