Backlog from September 4th:
For the last several days, I have been on the hunt for something (anything!) with roses. Even better if this something had some black tea thrown in. I love the combination very much, especially when combined with stone fruits, but I couldn’t seem to find anything in my tea cabinet to match my craving. Until this.
No stone fruits in The Picture of Earl Grey but definitely the rose I had been seeking. There is also jasmine, which was unexpected at first. I hadn’t realized it, but NovelTeas lists the ingredients as black tea, jasmine green tea, and rose so now the jasmine makes sense. I didn’t take this into account while steeping so I proceeded just as I would have with any other black tea, steeping 2 teaspoons for 5 minutes at roughly 195F. I don’t think it’s any worse for it. In fact, I think it’s quite flavorful this way. The more I drink, the more I taste the jasmine over the rose. It may not have been exactly what I was looking for, but it’s definitely a nice floral cup to enjoy with breakfast. A sweet surprise for sure.

Preparation
Had my last cup of this last night.
Final verdict- not impressive. Not enough peppermint, and not enough chamomile either. The best thing about this tea was the cool, book shaped tin it came in.
But now it is a sipdown! Hurrah!
Five more to go to reach my 40 teas by black Friday goal.
There was a ton of wind over the weekend, meaning my sinuses were not happy, and my head hurt. Tea to the rescue!
This is still not impressive. I think its a chamomile/mint blend, which means that the chamomile is taking over, and the mint is shunted backwards towards being an aftertaste.
Eh, not my favorite, but nice to sip on when your sinuses are making your throat sore.
Backlogged from this weekend.
The tin of this is so fun- it looks like a book, and as both a tea lover and a bibliophile I was bound to love it. The trouble is that this tea barely registers. I expected a stronger mint, but I think its a mint and chamomile blend, and not a particularly special one at that.
That’s too bad. I’m always on the hunt for a good mint tea, but this is not destined to be repeated.
Unfortunately my friend, who I seemed to be better yesterday, has had another episode last night, which has left me drawn and upset again.
Reinforcements are coming in, but won’t be here till late Friday and I am just hoping that somehow he will find balance again.
I didn’t know things had gotten this bad.
I had a cup of this last night to try and sooth me. Peppermint seemed good.
Unfortunatly, despite all its beautiful packaging its a disappointing mint tea. Hardly minty at all.
But holding a warm cup in my hand helped a lot.

There are a LOT of roses in this tea. I was a bit horrified when I looked at the dry leaves but thankfully, it wasn’t the perfumed mess I expected it to be. There is definitely rose flavor, as well as jasmine. There’s supposedly bergamot oil because it’s Earl Grey but I couldn’t really taste it under the rose and jasmine.
It’s drinkable but not my favorite. The flavors mix together a bit weirdly and I’m not completely sure it works for my palate.
