I was really excited to try Nina’s teas and this first impression didn’t let me down!
The dry rooibos didn’t smell particularly strong, but once brewed I could smell rich deep confection like cherries. At the beginning of each sip the cherries come on strong. After the rose joins the cherry, adding a perfume like aroma and pairing surprisingly well, then the cherry fades leaving the rose to finish off each sip. I am really liking this and steeped it three times without loosing much flavor! It has a light sweetness on it’s own, but I’m enjoying it with a little sugar which really makes the flavors more pronounced. I’m not picking up on the sour cherry that was mentioned in the description, but it doesn’t matter because what I am tasting is delicious. It’s a wonderfully rich caffeine free dessert tea with delicious well rounded depth to the flavor. It’s now on my Amazon wish list, but I’m not sure I can wait for someone to come a long and gift it to me before having this tea again. I can feel my willpower cracking already!
Smells heavily of citrus.
So mid sip I’m getting a metallic taste and I’m not sure why. The end is the lemon & grapefruit. I can detect the rose in it but the strawberry is completely lost.
It didn’t “wow” me, but it’s not bad. Anxious to try the other samples I got from Nina’s for comparison.
Preparation
This was my first experience with a Lapsang. I can see why this variety is so divisive! It smells very strongly of campfire. The taste is rich black tea with a natural smokey aftertaste. I think this works really well together! I enjoy it but I think I’d have to be in the right mood to drink it again.
Another cold brew backlog. Thanks again Courtney for letting my buy this from you!
I am LOVING this one cold brewed. Pineapple and creamy coconutty goodness! It almost has a marshmallowy quality yet is still totally unsweetened!
This tea IS pretty magical! Thank you Laurent for the sample!
The coconut flavor is more assertive than the pineapple. Both are mild and not overpowering. This tea seems very balanced to me. It is slightly tart without being bitter, and it almost has a smooth marshmallow quality to the flavor.
Very nice! I would drink this one again and recommend it to other tea fans.
Wow, I’m the first one to rate this!? I will try to do it justice. :) I was really excited to try this tea. Orange, chocolate and cream – sounds perfect to me! The tea smells very sweetly of oranges and cream. Unsweetened, it is slightly bitter, but not in a bad way. Kind of like the way bittersweet chocolate tastes. You can taste the black tea base and the other flavors are kind of mellow. The chocolate is the least noticeable flavor, and the orange and cream comes together in a wonderful orange creamsicle way. This is a really good tea, I would love to get a full tin of it! Thank you for the sample, Sophie and Laurent!
-Dry blend has small tea leaves and twigs with pieces of orange peel.
-Dry leaves smell sweetly of orange and cream. Tea liquor aroma is chocolatey.
-Tea liquor is a clear dark brown color.
-Lightly bitter chocolate flavor with an orange cream finish.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Very good tea. Black tea and chocolate base with a perfect orange creamsicle flavor.
Preparation
Wow! Really, really enjoyed this tea. I’m a sucker for citrus, especially grapefruit but I am amazed at how delicate and smooth this tea is. I received this as a free sample (many thanks to Nina’s) and I plan to order more in the near future. 2nd steep was as solid as the first.
Preparation
Very citrus, fruity, and slightly floral. I could not taste the pineapple but I could taste the orange and mandarin well enough. Tart but not too tart. I like it with a little sugar.
On the second steeping the orange taste is even stronger.
Preparation
This tea really is dreamy! Caramel corn meets green tea in a wonderful carnival version of genmaicha. If I had to rename this tea, I would call it creamy caramel toasty popcorn.
Big thanks to Sophie and Laurent at Nina’s for this sample. I will definitely be purchasing this when I have a little extra $$ for tea. It will be a dessert tea staple in my cabinet.
Update: The cooler the tea gets the more caramel I taste. I bet this would be awesome iced. I MUST BUY THIS TEA!!! My cabinet demands this as a staple NOW!!
I’ve really enjoyed the teas samples I got from Nina’s too!
Which did you get Stephanie? I’m about to try more of the Butiki samples you sent me! Thanks for those!
No problem! :) I got the Magicienne from Nina’s (my favorite of the bunch) it was pinapple/coconut and reminded me of marshmallows, and I also got the 4 red fruits and lapsang souschon. Good stuff!
