Robust flavouring, Organic Royal grade matcha. Size large!!
Wow this is amazing. I loooooove wheatgrass. Yep call me weird. heh.
Whatever. This… this is SO GOOD. Just what I was looking for.
A wheatgrass and matcha drink all in one. Amazing.
I knew I’d like this. So much so that I ordered a large. I never do that without trying a tea first. But I was that sure. and, I was right. Oh yeah.
It’s the perfect amount of wheatgrass. Not biting or sour like a true wheatgrass shot, but the perfect balance of flavours between matcha and grass. If you love those ultra expensive shots from Jugo or wherever, this will save you tons of money. It is so smooth and fragrant and rich. Deep, bright green.
Trouble is, I love smoothies almost as much as I love this matcha, and I can’t have both in one day… so I’m stuck choosing. Agh!
Smoothies help me reach my veggie/fruit intake goal so they usually win. Pickle much? sighs.
Matcha time! My friend came over and had tea with me today, and before she left she was lamenting about how much work she needed to do when she went home. I suggested that she try a matcha latte and see if that gave her a boost of energy. It must have worked, or it just tasted really great, because she is texting me right now picking what flavor she is going to buy, what size, what flavor level. I told her that picking the flavor is the hardest part for me because there are so many tempting ones.
This review will be about my latte, however, not hers! You can get the matcha right here:

I bought this one in Robust flavor level to mix with peanut butter to see if I could get a Reese’s peanut butter cup flavor, but I also wanted to try this one by itself as a hot cocoa substitute.
For this particular latte I made it the lazy way. I poured one cup of milk into a two cup Pyrex measuring cup. I added a spoonful of Turbinado sugar, which I am finding goes really well with the lattes. (I have to consume it all because I tried it in the kids’ drinks and they swear it tastes different from other sugar and they don’t want it in their drinks!)
When the milk was hot I used a plain kitchen strainer to sift 1/2 teaspoon of matcha into the cup. Then I just whisked it with a regular Kitchenaid brand metal whisk. I got a good froth, I suppose because it is milk instead of water. That helps!
This tastes good and creamy. I had to add extra milk because it was a little strong and you don’t want to add TOO much of the flavored matcha. The taste suffers. The good thing is that means you can use less and make MORE matcha lattes! It doesn’t taste exactly like hot cocoa, but it does taste like a hot drink that is chocolate, if that makes sense. This isn’t a kid’s kind of chocolate flavor, but rather a more adult one.
I do think I will order this in a milder flavor level next time, but for now I will just add more milk than usual to my lattes.
OMG! Maple Syrup matcha is INCREDIBLE! This tastes EXACTLY like maple syrup! I mean, it’s supposed to so I don’t know why I’m surprised. I bought 30g of the classic matcha with robust flavoring. Let me first just say that 30g isn’t nearly as much as it sounds like. Maybe I just make strong, concentrated matcha, but I really should have bought more. I can tell this is going to go FAST.
The dry leaf aroma is spot on maple syrup. It reminds me of opening a 52teas’ maple blend. The aroma is exactly the same. I’ve been whisking up this matcha all week ever since it arrived. It’s a perfect flavor combination: matcha and maple. If maple syrup was sap from a maple tree, then drinking this tea is like licking the sap off a leaf. Okay, maybe that sounds gross. But it’s delicious! I promise you!
The vegetal flavor of the matcha and the sweetness of the maple create a soft, mellow, light drink. It’s not creamy and heavy like some of the other flavored matcha I’ve tried. This is just fantastic. Buying flavored matcha you haven’t tried before is like rolling the dice. It could be a winner, or it could be an odd pairing. This one is a winner!
I’m so glad I included it in my first Red Leaf Tea purchase. I can’t wait to mix this with Cheesecake matcha to make Maple Cheesecake!!! YUM!! This is delight in a cup. Pure and simple. You can get some here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/maple-syrup-matcha.html
Preparation
yeah 30g is waaay too small for this matcha! I bought that the first time around and never again. It’s only large or more for this one :D
Thank you to Azzrian for sending me a bit of this Matcha! Yummy!
I prepared this as a latte, using mostly water to prepare it and then adding just a splash of half & half (since that’s all I had in the fridge) to make it a latte. It turned out fantastic.
I believe that Azzrian chose the Robust flavoring level with the classic grade of Matcha for this, and it really is good. The English Toffee flavor is very abundant, and I think that had I ordered it I probably would have gone for the distinctive rather than the robust, because I think I would like a little more of the Matcha to come through, but I’m really loving it just the way it is too.
Sweet, delicious toffee! Like a liquified heath bar in my Matcha bowl. Buttery, nutty with hints of chocolate, and a bit of Matcha in there too. Totally yum!
So I ordered from Red Leaf Tea when they had the sale! Wow! First, they shipped out so fast! Second, this matcha is so tasty! Finally, I haven’t touched matcha in years! My matcha utensils have been gathering dust, so I was excited to bust them out today.
I am approaching 12 weeks this Sunday! woo! I am cheating and having some caffeine! I read that I could have less than 150 mg/day of caffeine… or about one cup of coffee per day. I absolutely love strawberry and have been having bouts of cravings for strawberry. This was perfect. I sifted 2 bamboo scoops full of this matcha. The scent was like strawberry ice cream… not sorbet. I whisked as best as I could. What I got was a nice murky green with a bit of froth. Absolutely divine! I love the taste. The strawberry flavor was subdued, which was good. The matcha didn’t have any astringency, and it went down my throat smoothly. Delicious! I am a fan! I can’t wait to try the other matcha flavors (caramel, almond, amaretto) that I bought!
Preparation
This is awesome!! a great nutty drink for the winter or just crummy days in general :D I think I may have to add it to my shopping list…
Preparation
This is my very first time making matcha. I couldn’t pass up the deal Red Leaf had on Black Friday. Sure, I don’t have all the fancy tools for proper matcha. I made do with a mug, strainer & little wire whisk. It turned out excellent!
When I first opened the gold pouch a really strong smell of almond hit me. At this point I was glad I started with the basic. I was afraid this was going to be super overpowering. It wasn’t an overpowering almond taste at all. It was pretty subtle. I could really taste the vegetal notes of this, which is ok by me. I’m so glad I ordered this!
Funny, I used to get wheatgrass a lot. Liked it too!
It’s SO good Bonnie, I think you’d fall in lurve :P
