When I opened the bag and put the leaves into my steeping basket I could smell a faint aroma of vanilla, although this is not listed as an ingredient I felt it had to be a natural aroma in the tea. I also was able to taste a light vanilla flavor as well but as the tea cooled more the vanilla aroma dissipated. The flavor mellowed into a simply smooth delicious black tea.
Mahamosa contributes 50% of their profits to charity which gets my approval as well!
The smokiness is light, and in a strange way far less in the flavor than in the feel of the tea. I don’t know if that makes sense or not. It does have a very light campfire side aroma but there is this light sweetness to it that makes me think more of a lightly roasted marshmallow than the campfire smokiness itself. One of THE smoothest morning blends I have tried. Its not very smoky at all so don’t fear if you usually do not care for smokey teas. I swear I am getting a very light vanilla flavor here too and especially in the aroma! Nice tea! I will be doing a full review for SororiTea Sisters later today after I get some work done.
This is just down right GOOD! I have liked both teas I have tired from Mahamosa thus far and on that note would be pleased to try every single one of their teas!
Here are the snippits form the full review to be posted on http://sororiteasisters.com/ on the 30th
When I opened my bag of Pear Green White from Mahamosa my first impression was peach rather than pear but then again I really was not thinking much about the name of the tea nor that it should smell like pear, so peach was my initial reaction. Then on second sniff I smelled circus peanuts…you know those strange little peanut shaped orange candies (love them).
So we have our floral, we have our pear flavor which yes it does come out shinning bright and strong in the cup, we have a lovely white and green base which you just can’t beat for the health benefits, and we have several other tropical fruit notes playing around in the cup. There is a lot going on in here but it works magically well together.
The base teas are lovely providing a creamy backdrop for all the fruity playful flavors yet still remains bright and cheery not becoming too heavily laden with creaminess.
Full Review will be posted on http://sororiteasisters.com/ on the 28th but for now here are the snippits of that review:
When sipping on Blood Orange from Mahamosa the first thing that comes to mind is POW! Mind blowing orange flavor! If you love the taste of natural orange this is your tea!
The base tea makes way for the orange to take front and center yet there is some interesting taste on the end part of the sip that is distinctly the base tea. It is quite enjoyable but I am thinking this is one that must be cold steeped and enjoyed over ice!
One thing that I personally love about Mahamosa is that they contribute 50% of their annual net profits after taxes to support charitable causes including hunger, poverty, education, environment, clean water, animal/natural life welfare and other causes. You can learn more about their contributions here.

Oh! This is dandy!
Lots of non-tart fruity flavors going on to keep my interest focused on this flavored green-white blend! Pear, Mango, Pineapple, sugary-goodness! It’s slightly bitter but in a good way that seems to work with the fruits here. I love the green and white combo blend in the base, too!
This is extremely well-done!
Thanks momo! My package finally arrived today! Finally!!! :) (We mailed at the same time, yet momo had her teas a week ago!)
I totally forgot what we swapped, so I didn’t realize that this was mislabeled. I thought I was making Assam – not Darjeeling. No big deal though.
This tea is very smooth and lighter than I expected. It was a little bitter at first, but it’s not as noticeable now that the tea has cooled. Oh and I am definitely getting muscatel notes in it! (I just learned about that today – I could taste it but didn’t realize there was a word that summed those flavours up).
This is a pleasant Darjeeling but not one I will need to replace once I finish as it seems similar enough to DavidsTea Himalayan Blend. Thanks again momo!
Very minimal hibiscus here, folks! YAY!
This smells wonderful – mostly of Pom & Blueberry.
The flavor is gentle but an interesting mesh of flavors! I can taste the Pom and Blueberry, YES, but I can also taste some MISC berries, and lovely apples! The after taste is more of a berry/floral/apple flavor, specifically.
I’m VERY grateful this isn’t overly tarty or hibiscusy. This is very well done. I’m drinking it a bit warmer than luke warm but I think it would really shine ICED :)
It’s been quite a long time since I’ve found a rooibos tea that’s really impressed me. Not only did this impress me but ever since I got my first taste of it, I’ve been craving it again and again.
I didn’t know what to expect after smelling it, the pumpkin aroma was very strong it took me a bit off guard. Continuing on, though, the more I could smell it while steeping, the more alluring it became.
I was pretty eager for that first sip, and well justified. It was absolutely thrilling — crisp, buttery, pumpkin-y goodness, that still managed to keep the natural taste of the rooibos. This tea is the absolute perfect thing to indulge in on a chilly night of relaxation. Oh man, I think I just found my favorite herbal tea.
Travelling tea box!
So this isn’t a bad little tea. It’s the first gunpowder that I’ve tried and I like how the smoky flavour isn’t up in your face. I found it to be a nice black tea with a hint of smokiness at the back of the sip. Not sure if I’d pick this up as a regular in my cupboard but I would totally drink it again!
This is a really interesting and fun blend, folks! It smells a bit like Fruit cake, almost, at first.
Black Tea, Green Tea, Various Fruits, Spice…I like it all! Nuts, Flowers, you name it. This tea has a lot of offer. It’s pretty, it’s pleasant, it’s colorful, it’s fragrant, it’s a real treat!
This is very nicely done – from start to finish!
Holy Mole-E! This is GOOD!
It smells wonderful! I LOVE the fact that there is both sencha AND oolong in here! I like that there is peach and currants as well as various floral notes. I also LOVE that there is no hibiscus in there! Woot!
It’s fruity and creamy and sweet and mouth watering. This is certainly a dream! Neat blend!
Dry this smells pretty awesome…a really wonderful vanilla aroma. Once I started infusing it morphed a little. It was like a vanilla/cream combo with a bit of fragrant aroma sort of like a body spray or perfume type smell.
The taste is vanilla/cream and a little floral – almost like a jasmine-type taste eventho I really doubt there is any jasmine in this flavor but I’m picking up a little ‘sumpin’-sumpin’
After really trying to ‘think’ about the after taste of this I finally realized what it was…it was the black tea base – it’s strong and malty with hints of cocoa powder almost…which linger. There is a mysterious spec of smokiness, too, in the black tea base. With all of these tasting-features it makes for a unique combo – one that I doubt I have ever had in a vanilla flavored black tea before. That, in itself, I appreciate.
This is pretty good. Different than I was expecting, but good.
Another one from momo! thanks so much! This is exactly as I expected as I was reading about the blend… but better! This combination of fruits is fantastic! And NO hibiscus! I love the apples, cranberries, kiwi and cherries. The icing on the cake is this perfect coconut flavor. It just gives the tea a creaminess and cuts the fruity tartness a bit. Delicious. The steep color is a nice yellow. This is a fine example that not all herbal teas need hibiscus. Thanks for sharing this one momo, as I read your tasting notes and how much you love it!
Sipdown! 846. Thanks to momo for letting me try this one :)
I brewed this up pretty strong – I can’t recall the proportions, but I’ve leaned towards using 2 tsp/8 oz. with rooibos lately, so did at least that (possibly 2.5 tsp for 10oz? I don’t remember). Anyhow, this is creamy and chocolatey – one of the better chocolatey rooibos’ I’ve had, I think! Pretty tasty, and fits nicely into a caffeine-free evening (if that is desired).
ETA: No sour flavour here as I noted previously. I’d chalk that up to flavour contamination :)
Preparation
Time for a bit of sample crunching :D Treating myself to a nice tea time tonight as I ran a 10K race this morning. Didn’t quite hit my goal time of 60 mins (63:09), but I haven’t been training as much as I should have been (for various reasons), so I’m pretty happy. And apparently I was pretty “out of it” after crossing the finish line, so I don’t think I lacked in effort put in. Therefore, tea time reward :D (Of course, I also spent the day with my boyfriend & roommate playing board games and watching Dr. Who, so I’ve already been “rewarded”…. shush!)
This sample is from Momo and one I requested waaay back (or so it feels) when she last sent me a swap package. I’m trying to develop a taste for desserty rooibos for the evenings (it’s working) so I don’t get so sad when my evening tea selection is super small.
The tea smells quite chocolatey and a touch rooibos-y in the glass… there’s almost a bit of a sour smell to it, but as long as it doesn’t indicate a flavour present in the tea, it’s irrelevant. Hrm. Unfortunately that touch of sourness does seem to appear in the tea. I can’t say whether this is a case of “tea contamination” or just the way this rooibos tastes (my tastebuds think it could easily be either, as it’s almost a potentially citrusy sort of sour). Other than that, I do quite like the flavour of this one! It’s creamy, it’s smoothly chocolatey, and perhaps that note I’m getting could also be “truffle”. I’m actually finding it less bothersome as I sip, so really tough to know where it’s coming from. There’s certainly no icky medicinal rooibos taste here though, which is relieving! So really, the biggest negative is the fact that I’m getting a bit of a scratchy throat feeling from the tea, which seems to be a common occurrence with me and rooibos (though not honeybush). Makes it a bit less desirable to be drinking, but as long as I’m not drinking cups and cups of it, it’s not so bad.
Thanks for letting me try this one, Momo!
ETA: Not a bad second infusion. Still chocolatey, but fairly weak, and still the throat scratchiness
Preparation
This is my very first time trying Darjeeling tea. I’m so excited!
The dry leaves smell like cocoa powder. Mmm…
This has a funny mouth feel. It is almost powdery, yet thick and heavy.
It is hardly astringent at all and tastes interesting… it kind of has a generic “tea” flavor to me. I get a slight amount of what could be the “sparkling” feeling that I’ve heard associated with these.
I am not wowed, but this is a decent “tea tea” for lack of a better descriptor.
Of course, I just had a giant “break out the sunglasses and turn out the lights” migraine, so I’m not really fully functioning. Take my “not too impressed” with a grain of salt.
Preparation
Thanks Amanda – this was part of the package she put together :)
Brewed up this smells kind of like amaretto – it has a light alcoholic scent.
This is neat – it’s a really smooth nice rooibos. There is a caramel flavor here that really works. That and the cream flavor. The chocolate flavor is a bakers chocolate kind of flavor in the background.
Yum!
