I actually mixed this with the Republic of Tea Matcha to see if that improved the RoT offering. Honestly, after trying the Match Kari Superior Organic blend everything seems really off in my matcha life. It cannot compare.

Mixing made things better, but I’ve also had better…

I love Ippodo and Naoki for matcha!

Barsomn

I still need to try Ippodo, right now Matcha Kari has blown my socks off on what to expect. No bitterness as in other varieties and it has a delicious and natural umami sweetness I crave.

ashmanra

Which grade of Kari do you like?

I use Harney’s highest grade for traditional and second highest or the organic for lattes, but D25 from Matcha Outlet is good, too.

ashmanra

Oh sorry, you mentioned the grade in the review! When I looked them up I saw a ton of options and panicked. Ha ha!

Barsomn

They do have a lot of options. I had an eBay seller with 3 cans of the Superior Organic, I won them all. Originally I thought it was the Single Origin blend. Now I want to try more but they are quite expensive direct from the source.

Quick and dirty “western style” matcha. 2G with approx 175ml of water. Dispenser is a few degrees too cool, used an electric frother in place of a chasen since I’m at work.
This is the first matcha I’ve purchased and what started my obsession. Some bitterness but pretty smooth overall considering the price. Warm vegetal notes and savory body. Nice froth.

It’s a bit, maybe acidic? Tannins stick to the tongue when consumed out of a bowl, long finish. It is rather single-noted and seems to be off if you make matcha with closer to a koicha consistency.

I think I paid $13 US for a 110g tin? That’s ~$0.12 per gram, so for a quarter this cup is pretty dang tasty. Maybe not worthy of a tea ceremony, but fine for daily consumption or culinary/latte purposes. You’ll see this in my log a lot as I work through the tin, and work through the work… Nice little pick me up from this offering.

Flavors: Astringent, Bitter, Tannic, Vegetal
