A little bit ginger. A little bit fruity. A whole lotta rose. A flavor that’s odd and out of place and emphasized by the grapefruit Perrier used to make this a teapop. Blech!
Ok I’ll admit it – I don’t remember the last time I drank black tea. It’s been several months……
A couple of my tea friends have tried, and liked, this one in the last couple of days so I thought I should pull out my sample and try it too. My first thought was – why have I not been drinking blacks, my second thought was – what is this suppose to taste like, and my third – I really miss this.
So….. I’m out of touch, but this is working for me. I’m not getting the chocolate notes they were mentioning. I am finding sweet potato – starchiness – some malt, and maybe a touch of fruit. This is lighter than I was expecting. That sounds negative, but I like it (or am just happy to be drinking black tea again).

Blacks are my favorite teas. I didn’t really drink any tea at all over the summer (rediscovered iced coffee) and I’ve been drinking mostly flavored stuff the last couple of weeks. This is the first straight black I’ve had in forever…. I think I miss it, need to be drinking more (not to mention the huge amount I have in my cupboard).
Yay for getting back into tea!
I totally drifted away in the spring and switched to coffee, but I’m back with tea – at least two cups a day anyway, and I know that feeling when you rediscover why you like unflavoured teas. <3
Sample from cavocorax this one wasn’t bad. it’s not a knock your socks off omg yes lease! sort of tea, but again, given that this is a canadian company, availability may win out next time i need to order. this is more milk chocolate than dark and the hazelnut is really in the background here. I wish it was a little more nutty and more like dark chocolate, but again, not half bad.
It really reminds me of the Harney & Sons equivalent? Florence? I liked it but wasn’t wowed but… who knows, I might get another sample later on.
Thanks Sil – I guess I’m not THAT desperate – I have lots of Passage left, will make do with what I have.
Saw this in Cavo’s feed this morning, so figured i could start my day by trying it as well. 5 pearls for 3.5 min, just under boiling. This is a smooth brew, there’s no bitterness and i’m for sure getting some chocolate like notes at the back end of the sip. Not sure i’d keep this in my cupboard, but i’d happily add this to an order to get free shipping heh.
time to get to work on sipdowns…this weekend spent with tea friends means i’m back up to 87!
:D
I’m trying to remember who else had a black pearl tea with a profile like this, but at least this one is very convenient to order (and FAST), so that’s a huge plus for CitizenTea.
I have some of these but haven’t tried them yet – need to do that soon. The best pearls I’ve had were from Mandala – but they haven’t had them for years :( Second would have to be Teavivre – but would be interested in any others that people like.
that’s my order as well dexter. haha. that’s not to say that these are bad..just not quite what i want full time in my cupboard – i’d pick up teavivire’s for that.
Citizen Tea had a free shipping sale last weekend so I decided to check out a few samples. This was among the bunch that I ordered. Both cactus and fig are flavors that intrigue me so I figured why not.
It’s actually quite lovely. It’s got a nice sweet fig taste atop the smooth green base. Not sure if it is the cactus or the aloe but there is also a little bit of a fresh taste here that is ever so slightly minty. Just a touch of grass from the base and you got a pleasant enough tea. I don’t know if it is one I would need to keep stocked but it’s nice while I have it.
I’m not really getting S’mores out of this tea. In fact it tastes a LOT like Creamy Nut Oolong. Maybe a little sweeter, maybe just a HINT of chocolate but nothing I would consider campfire, nothing that says graham. This isn’t bad it’s just not S’mores.
I think this one is a little strange. I’m not getting much nutty as indicated in the description. It’s a little vanilla, a little sweet cinnamon, a bit alcohol,in a sharp black base. This is a snuggle up fall weather type tea. More fall than holiday in my opinion. Not my favorite, but a decent cup.
This is just ok for me. It’s sweet chocolate with a hint of nut. Nothing really wrong with it, but it’s not really special either. I would prefer it if it were a little more bitter chocolate, and more nutty. IMHO there are better chocolate nut teas out there.
Even though I had Thai curry chicken for dinner, I’m still have some nasty dead mushroom aftertaste thing happening from that icky tea…. I feel that this is the only tea in my cupboard that has any chance to stand up to that.
I’m disappointed in this one tonight. I think this is different than the last time I had it. There is more green powder something (if it’s the green mate then it’s really small leaf) than I’ve seen before. This green powder has move through my strainer into the cup. That’s weird – this tea doesn’t usually do that. It also have a really sharp bite to it. Dunno. I normally love this one, but it’s just not working for me tonight. sigh….
I don’t really believe in the health benefits claimed by “wellness” teas. I didn’t buy this to become slim and slender – I bought it because I used to like the one sold by Teaopia.
This blend is exactly as I remember it – so good.
I’m not even really sure how to describe it. A little fruity, a little medicinal, but really light and refreshing. It’s a pretty strange tea but for some reason I really like it. I wouldn’t drink it everyday, but it’s a really nice change from the heavier/darker teas that I normally drink. This one is a winner for me.
To access your description, I had to click on the edit page so it appears that I edited though I didn’t.
Initially, I thought that it was the same as Zen Tea’s, but I see that the ingredients are different. https://www.zentealife.com/collections/herb-fruit/products/herb-slim-slender
Not sure – I blew the hard drive on my laptop, so just using my tablet until I can replace it. On my tablet it’s hard to copy/paste ingredient lists into the ingredient field so I just put it in the description. Please feel free to edit or move them. :)
Jets lost the game tonight…. :(
I’m emotionally attached to this tea. It made me happy way back in the Teopia days and it still makes me happy today. I received my order of 250g today and I don’t think that was a mistake. I will drink this often.
I’m drinking it out of one of my favorite mugs. Yes there are a few small paint chips, but I don’t care – this is a happy mug for my happy tea.
I found an old tin of this at my sister’s but one of her friend’s ended up taking it home. It was so neglected, but still smelled amazing after all these years! One day I’ll have to try it again from this company :)

I loved this tea when it was sold by Teaopia and I still love it. Trying to find a replacement is what lead me to Steepster. Lots of warm fuzzies associated with this tea. Really happy to have it back in my life.
