I may have found my perfect casual drinking chai. I enjoy the orange peel in it, and it has a spicy zing without being too peppery. (I enjoy those kinds, too, but stronger flavors require very particular moods for me.) The vanilla softens it, but there is still plenty of spice flavor – cinnamon is strongest, but I’d say definitely a bit of ginger and pepper. I think the company says there is cardamom, too, which I would believe – I’m not very good at picking it out as an individual flavor, but I always seem to enjoy teas with that as an ingredient. It’s a touch on the weak side for me, so if I want to add milk or coconut creamer (yum in this!), I have to make it extra strong.

This one definitely needs to be brewed at a lower temperature, or it’s just nasty. Brewed correctly, it only has a mild genmaicha taste that is well balanced with the green tea and the sweeter nutty flavors. I didn’t realize it was a genmaicha tea when I bought it, or I probably wouldn’t have done so as I don’t tend to care for them. However, I like it now that I have it. It does have a strong genmaicha scent, which I don’t personally care for.

I’m also so intrigued by people who brew greens at boiling or very close to, and claim to enjoy it. They are so much better when brewed correctly! It was a major revelation for me when I learned that. I can’t handle greens brewed above 190F or so now (unless they are ones meant to be brewed hotter).

This is a less sophisticated version of Whispering Pines’ Cocoa Amore. I always get a chocolate flavor from vanilla, so this is a nice black tea with a vanilla/chocolate flavor. It doesn’t have a ton of depth, but it’s definitely nice and enjoyable.

This isn’t bad, but it needs more body to it. It is chocolate, and it is mint, but they both feel kind of thin somehow. I might try brewing it extra strong and adding some milk to it, and see where that gets me. There’s no real complexity here, it’s pretty much exactly as advertised, except that with a term like “truffle” I expect a richness that isn’t present. It’s not bad, but not great, either.

Meh. I’ve tried this one a few times and I’m just not sold. It’s a little too earthy to me and just doesn’t taste quite right. The chocolate has a little bit of a dirt feel to it, and I get an overly burnt taste from the caramel. I generally like T2, but this one is a pass for me.

This does somehow capture the cookie taste! Yummy and delicious, exactly what I needed yesterday. It’s a lot of cinnamon, as you would expect, but it’s bakery cinnamon, not red-hot candy cinnamon. I can’t quite imagine what the cocktail would taste like, but I enjoyed the tea!

This tastes mostly like a lemony black tea. It’s OK, nothing special one way or the other. It is fairly smooth but not outstanding.

There is a hint of chocolate in there, but I might not even have noticed if I was drinking this with no name or ingredient info. It’s a cinnamon/ginger heavy chai, but nicely spicy without being astringent as they can get sometimes. Super delicious with a little coconut creamer added, by the way!

This was an advent tea, so it’s no longer available. If you didn’t get any, you should cry, this stuff is soooo good! I didn’t try it early on because the combo didn’t sound very good to me, but OH MY GOSH it was delicious! It’s definitely a dessert type tea, sweet and juicy and delicious.

Just the name alone sounds amazing. :D

Both fruity and vanilla-y, nicely balanced and this one has a ton of fans. I’m not the biggest fan of fruit with vanilla, but it’s good enough, just not my favorite.

Bio

Wife, mom of 2 crazy young kids (and 3 cats, if they count). Used to be a professional tree hugger, now I stay at home hobbit-like and teach the kids to love the trees. Also hobbit-like, I love reading, tea, second breakfasts, cooking and food in general, and gardens. (I can’t really say I love gardening since where I live, it’s too dratted hot for too much of the year to actually do it.) I am always on the search for a good flavored decaf black tea. Suggestions are more than welcome!

I tend to like my teas strong, so I use more than most people when I brew. Don’t be put off a tea because I say I used 4 tsp to brew 12 oz or something – that’s just me.

PS – Unlike a hobbit, my toes are not furry. I just feel the need to clarify.
