772 Tasting Notes
Almost the last of this. Next time I have it will be a sipdown.
This is nice and comforting on a day when I haven’t gotten as much done as I would like. I can still taste the chocolate and the cherry, though not as well as before, probably due to age. It also has the slight waxy taste to it that I don’t remember from before. Oh well. Approximately 26 oz of this to drink in the next 2 hours and then hope I don’t have to pee on the way home (1 hour drive).
Preparation
Got this from Tea Haus, though it is obviously this tea here (even has the 992 note on it) from TeaGschwendner. Mouthful of a name.
This is definitely cherry but there is a touch of something..waxy almost. Like I’m licking a cherry scented candle instead of drinking a cherry tea. It’s definitely sour cherry, although that’s usually fine with me since I like those as actual cherries during cherry season (where I’m lucky to live in WA so there’s tons of cherry varietals around. Rainier anyone?).
This is tolerable but overall just okay. Not the great tea I was hoping for. Still searching for a cherry tea for me then. Oh well.
Preparation
Steeped this according to the instructions on the package. Just off boiling and for about a minute and a half. Maybe a bit longer because I didn’t hit the timer on my microwave immediately.
I added sweetener because I do that. The smell of the tea is really that of grains, like the descriptions say. I’m not picking up any carmelized sugar yet. Waiting for it to cool off enough not to burn my tongue.
Keep in mind for this review, I am a relative newbie to oolongs and this might be my first taste of a Red Robe. I’m expecting to like it, but my tastes haven’t really evolved enough to identify what I pick up. I have a good memory for ‘I have tasted this before’ and a bad memory for ‘and this is what it is called’.
The first steep of this tastes rather grainy as well. Not in a bad way, like really nice bread but without the chewiness. This is still rather hot for me to be drinking this, I’ll wait for it to cool down a little before drinking more.
As it cools, more sweetness comes out and I’m getting a sugarish taste but not quite caramelized. Still a very nice tea. This never got quite caramelized sugar, but it got much sweeter for me as it cooled to just above room temperature. All in all a very nice tea.
If something changes in further steeps, I shall come back and edit this note.
Preparation
When I first opened this this afternoon, I was overwhelmed with nausea by the sickly sweet scent. I definitely didn’t know if I wanted to be drinking it today, but I made some anyway. With a bit of sugar because reverse psychology or something. Anyway. I was happy to drink this, the flavour was better though the smell is still too sweet. I think I’m getting tired of it though. Probably won’t be a reorder.
Kind of a sipdown. This package is finished, but there is more in the freezer waiting for me because I got all of the cherry ones to compare at some point and got more of this for that.
Didn’t measure very well because I was just trying to get the stuff out of the tin but it seems to have worked out anyway. I still really really like this, it is my happy matcha. I’m progressing well at work, only 7 matchas left to get through before I can reload.
Haha when I saw all the cherry ones I had the plan to compare them all one day as well. I shall keep an eye on your notes to see your thoughts :)
VariaTEA…yeah… uh..i haven’t NOT been able to drink any recently..just haven’t had the time/inclination. I have 13 unopened packages to get through…after i finish up the 3? opened ones in my fridge.
Haha you are surrounded by matcha. I have a fair bit as well but I can only drink 1 tsp of it a day. If I could drink more I would though :)
I wish it were the caffeine. The issue is I like it in milk and I can only have 2 milk servings a day.
Milk fat does me in, so I make everything with fat-free dairy stuff. Maybe try it in another type of milk? Soy, rice, almond, coconut?
I am on Jenny Craig so I need to have milk, and it needs to be two cups a day. If I wasn’t bound by that I would probably go through matcha and bags of milk daily :P
My American friends were incredibly confused as to what they were and they were so opposed to buying them until they realized how much cheaper it was. I had no idea it was a Canadian thing until I saw the look of pure confusion on their faces.
I think it’s more of a specialty thing here. When I was little we got bags of milk delivered (!) every week, or we’d pick them up at a farm.
I made this the same as the last 2 tries that turned out successfully, but something was off today. Perhaps I overleafed? I wanted to get the rest of the bag I had into my mouth today and I added more than I usually do. Unfortunately, instead of making a flavour blast, it just brought out the bitter of the black tea. It’s still good, but it’s not GREAT like I wanted. It’s also getting old so that may play a part.
At any rate, this is my second sipdown today. Go Me!
Preparation
Again I have no tasting notes of this? Well, it was at my desk at work and this is a sip down so out of my cupboard it goes.
I might actually think about reordering this someday, when my stash is under control. The sour cherry flavour compliments the hibiscus if you add a bit of sugar and it turns out quite nice and isn’t completely in your face although it was a little for me here because I overleafed it a bit to get the rest of the tea out (there wasn’t enough for another cup).
All in all, this is my favourite of the old Adagio fruit tea sampler.
Preparation
Attempt #2
I made this into a cold smoothie today. Ice cubes, 16 or so oz of milk, 2 tsp of this, and half a bag of frozen raspberries. Blended it all up and…it didn’t taste very good. It wasn’t bad exactly but it was definitely not good. Aggressively neutral I guess. So after staring at it for a while, I put what was left back in the blender (where more waited for me) and added more ice cubes and also a tsp and a half or so of granulated sugar. After that it was tastier but it still needs either more of everything except the matcha, or less matcha I think. Next time.
