400 Tasting Notes

I had made this hot & iced.

Hot—it’s similar to a hot cup of kool-aid.

Iced—All of the lemongrass. I’m not a fan of lemongrass, so this one doesn’t stick out for me.

Flavors: Lemongrass

This year my parents wanted to give me tea stuff since Teavana was going out of business. They assumed that anything that was on sale there would be appealing to me, so they grabbed a few ounces of a couple of teas.

I tried this on Saturday, but wasn’t over the moon impressed. It’s a bit spicy, sweet, and has a decent apple bite to it, but it’s kind of weak. Teavana focuses on which teas would go well with their beet root sugar, rather than what would work well without it. This isn’t terrible, but it’s not the greatest, either, so I’d not have this again even if Teavana were going to continue in their journey as a store.

Another sample that was snagged from the Christmas purchase my wife had made for me….I gave her a list of teas from BTTC and she picked the samples she thought I’d like the most.

Now, like the 1980s Dank Puerh, this one has a dankness to the nose/tongue, but not as much. I noted that the dry leaf reminded me of an old house with old furniture—covered in dust—rather than “your grandma’s grandma’s basement.”

Upon steeping this tea, the wet leaf produces a bit of a wet hay pile, with a touch of dried gourds that one might acquire for Fall decorations.

The flavor profile is less dank; although, it too, has that wet hay pile note on the tongue. Rather than having that bitter-astringent factor, it only has the dryness following the course of a few cups, however, it’s smooth, too.

Overall, I like this one. I oftentimes regret liking the older puerh because it is and/or can be at a higher range than I’d prefer paying….However, like video games, I’d prefer having a few good ones that’d last a long time, rather than many which I’d not venture into drinking that often…. ;)

Three years since your note… any update? :-)

Daaaaaannnnng, this is DANK!

It’s the dankiest danky dank tea I’ve ever tried….BUT, I like it—a whole lot.

Grandma’s grandma’s basement, beats, radishes, moss, & earthy goodness. Great tea to start 2018 out with. I used 3g of tea with 100ml gaiwan and it was strong stuff. This here is special stuff, and will be treated delicately for the next month or so (until the sample is all gone). I’d definitely consider getting more in the future once I’m able to properly “wet” store tea. xD

I have a sample of that about – maybe I’ll try it later today!

I’ve finally caught the bug that was going around the office. I had tried to prevent it from happening, but not even medicines nor tea can stop what is destined to happen from happening, I suppose.

I’m currently wearing layers of clothing & blankets at the computer desk, while mustering enough energy to write the review for today’s mysterious Roasted TGY (courtesy of Liquid Proust) and enjoying the fact that I can taste it, despite the lack of most senses….It’s deep flavor (charcoal, stone fruits, & nuts) allows my taste buds to enjoy something which has seemed impossible for the last couple of days (although I’m currently at the worst part of the sickness). Anyway, I wanted to make a quick note of it while I could….Cheers!

Happy New Year!

Hope you feel better soon!

Dang, I got that bug a while back and was in the same situation — wanting tea so badly but unable to enjoy most of them. Glad you were able to find one you could!

MadHatterTeaDrunk

Thank you, Mrmopar!

Iteg—it is nice having that one tea that just allows one to feel normal, despite being sick. It’s great to taste things! :)

Tea Swap
Sipdown

I brewed this last night (10g/200 ml) after work. I’ve not been able to sleep anymore, so I have started working out and drinking a variety of sheng (which helps me relax) to slow my mind down.

At first, it was a bit bitter, but from my experiences with Naka, that’s how it goes with most of them…After a few steeps in, the bitterness vanished and there was a nice smooth ‘sheng’ (leathery) note….However, I hadn’t realized that the tea was taking hold of me, and allowing my mind/body soar in the state of relaxation/sleepiness. Upon drinking more and stopping momentarily to allow the kettle to boil back to the temperature needed, I was asleep.

So, in conclusion….this is pretty good stuff.

Tea Swap

Work tea session

Sweet, malty, & full of nom-noms.

I had shared this tea with a coworker. She made this into a latte (per suggestion from the note on the packet) while I had mine ‘black.’ Upon listening to her taking her first sip of the tea, I assumed that by the “Holy shhhhhhhh*t,” she liked it.

I liked my cup, too, and will look into finding more of this, if available.

i’d forgotten about this one…it IS a good one!

Work tea session

This was gifted to me by a friend o’ mine. He wanted to try a variety of teas from Ohio Tea Co. He gave me money, had me pick out some stuff which he’d like, and what was left of what he had leftover was given to me…As much as I’m into tea, he dabbles in the tea realm from time to time for my sake…. xD

I didn’t get so much of the ‘pumpkin’ from the tea, as I did the caramel. It was a bit dry and bitter after it sat for a moment…However, when hot, it was easier to drink…Overall, it was an average tea, but not for me…

lteg

I’ve struggled to find a pumpkin tea that actually tastes like pumpkin. Harney and Sons Pumpkin Spice is an enjoyable tea, but doesn’t taste like pumpkin either.

MadHatterTeaDrunk

I’ll have to check that out. H&S has some pretty good blended flavors!

Another work tea session

Steeped at 3 minutes w/ 200 F water.

Smooth & vegatal.

Notes similar to a darker green tea; not so much a black tea.

A smoky glass of bourbon without the burn. Slightly bitter, yet smooth?

Drinking down a lot of my teas in 2020. I may not observe these sessions as much as I’d like, but I’ll note them, when the mood strikes.
