1113 Tasting Notes
I believe this is the 2014 raw pu’erh I got a sample from for Misty Peaks:
The leaf is quite appealing as there are a few silver strands in the dark green sheng. I thought that the first few brews would be bitter since it’s a newer pu’erh. Interestingly enough this was not bitter from steep #1. Quite nicely done. Though, I’m still a shou guy for sure :/
There is an interesting mix of malt and smoke in this tea. Unlike the Classic Black blend, I was able to drink this. The smoke is mild which allows for the malt notes to be noticeable. The mixture is a bit odd, but it is smooth. Chocolate and smoke may not be a mixture that works well… but I will test that :P
This is one of my favorite types of black tea so I have sampled it from three different farms now and find it to be quite satisfying. This one here is more astringent than others that I’ve had. While the flavor is there, which is nice, the bitterness is somethi by that I wish wasnt thefe
I rarely do western on Chinese reds. Almost never . You won’t notice any bitterness or astringency if you Gongfu them. Indian/Ceylon is western only
No matter how many times I have come back and tried this at work, it taste like chilled green mint tea from any teabag that came from the supermarket. I wish the flavors were more distinct and stronger for me to taste something different. Maybe it’s the green tea that was used in this mixture? Either way, I’ve tried this about 7 times now and get the same result.
My new job only has the K cup machines so I have no way of having hot water… thankfully I have a few teas from Chi Whole Leaf to use while I come up with a solution. Out of the ones I have had, this has been my favorite. I wish it was pure mate… the licorice root is bleh…
Overall, this is a nice chilled drink that is EASY to make and quick.
This is one wonderful pile of leaf!
I will brew this tea until it provides nothing.
To explain how this taste I will say this: The flavor is 80% silver needle, 15% keemun tea, and 5% sheng.
I drank many ounce of this tea to figure that explanation. I will probably be looking at purchasing a moonlight cake now that I have had such a beautiful experience with this one :)
