423 Tasting Notes
I wanted to end the evening with something sweet. I hadn’t tried this yet, so I decided that this would be my “adventure tea” of the day. It’s supposed to taste of a combination of oolong, oranges and almonds. The base is some kind of lightly roasted oolong, judging be its looks, and by its non-floral, non-perfumy flavor. The tea brews lightly, with a very delicate flavor profile – don’t have this after a curry or a highly flavorful meal.
It tastes of a good, roasted oolong, and has a slight aftertaste of almonds. If you patiently wait long enough after each sip, you will get a hint of tanginess of oranges. But nothing overpowering. Nothing that announces itself loud and clear. A very subtle tea.
It’s sweet enough to not need sugar, it could never take milk (it’s very, very light bodied), and if you are used to strong or artificially flavored teas, walk away. You will be disappointed. If you, like me, don’t like flavored teas, you’ll likely love this.
It’s been ages since I’ve has a few moments for my beloved Steepster, and even longer since I’ve spent time with what is probably my favorite tea.
This is still a fruity, malty, interesting delight, and it is a perfect pick me up for this very rainy and rather cold night.
Flavors: Apricot, Malt, Stonefruit
I really wish that they would restock it, but apparently it wasn’t popular enough. I cannot for the life of me understand why, as it got glowing reviews on Teaviews, and it really is a great and unique black tea.
Opened a new batch of this tea, but didn’t have the time to brew it Gongfu, so the wonderful cinnamon-y taste took a backseat to a more generic, roast green beans flavor.
Still one of my favorite oolongs, but one that NEEDS to be brewed with respect.
Flavors: Cinnamon, Green Beans
Cold brewed this about a week ago (yes, I know, I’ve been swamped). It has a thick mouthfeel, and sweet, but not “sweet” taste. It was like drinking the bittersweet chocolate version of iced tea, if you know what I mean.
Will most certainly cold brew it again.
This is is back in stock in Verdant’s, but it’ll probably be out of stock pretty soon, if the past is any indicator of things.
Anyway, I’m dead tired, with a splitting headache, after a pretty useless “Risk Management” seminar at work. Tomorrow the next semester starts, and I still have papers to hand in, books to read, etc, etc.
Anyway, trying to keep a positive perspective on things, so I made this cup of tea as a much needed pick me up. My version of chocolate or Haagen Daz.
It, as usual, did the trick. They headache has subsided, and I can feel myself decompressing. Everyone should have a tea like this (or even better – this tea!) in their cupboard.
What’s your pick-me-up favorite?
Flavors: Chocolate, Honey
Fun question: how/where did you find Fauchon?
Please don’t hate me- picked up a caddy of this when I was last in Paris…
