19 Tasting Notes
I bought it because it smells great but when I got it home and brewed it it was disappointing. It’s more astringent than you expect and it’s more bitter than sweet. You need to add a bit of sugar to get the berry taste and since I prefer not to add sugar that’s a real let down. I like blueberry jam better so I’ll be sticking with that one.

I was drawn to this tea because of the smell – mmm, so good! Brewed, it really does have that cookie taste. It’s sweet so it doesn’t need any more sugar (yay!) and it makes a good dessert tea. The cinnamon and brittle with the rooibos base blend beautifully to give you that cookie taste. It’s buttery with a nip from the cinnamon. The spices give this tea an autumnal feel. I really hope David’s Tea brings this back again next fall. In the meantime, I’m glad I have a stash of it.

This review is for the bagged version of the this tea. When I bought this I was beginning my tea appreciation and I was on a quest for a good chai. I bought this because there’s a Kusmi retail outlet near my office and I wanted to give them a try. This chai is a lot milder than the spicy chais I’m used to. In fact it doesn’t really taste like chai to me at all. There are hints of the flavors and spices but they don’t come through very well. Add milk and the flavors really almost disappear. My IBS doesn’t allow me to drink chais very often so when I do, I like one that’s bolder. I will say that this chai doesn’t cause a flare up so it has that going for it.

I bought this tea about a year ago on the recommendation of the salesperson at the Teavanna location I purchased it at. It was kind of a disappointment to me. Part of the reason for that is that it took me a while to figure out the best way to brew the tea. It really does best when it’s brewed in a teapot or a single cup infuser where the leaves are allowed to fully unfurl. Also, I prefer my teas brewed strong and this tea was rather weak for my taste. I found that I have to use small amounts of water, no more than 8 or 9 oz, to get a decent flavor. As I like to drink mugfulls (sp?) of tea, that’s a rather small cup and not satisfying. Still, it’s a good tea but not one I’ll be restocking my cupboard with.

I tried this tea at the Intelligentsia coffee bar in New York. It’s the best earl grey tea I’ve ever had. The black tea base is smooth and the bergamot oil complements it perfectly, neither overpowering the tea nor hiding behind it. It’s delightfully citrusy with a taste that blooms in your mouth and goes down easy. I want this in my cupboard.

I received this tea as a Christmas present this year. On opening the tin, you smell the chocolate. Taking a sip, the rose asserts itself and blends with the chocolate. The black tea base is good and plays well with the other flavors. I think it works best as a stand alone tea or instead of dessert. I prefer to drink my tea unsweetened and this one isn’t the best for drinking that way. A bit of sugar and the flavors really pop. Either way I enjoy it.

I decided to try this tea on my then boyfriend, now husband’s recommendation. This is the first lapsang souchong I’ve ever tasted and so far it’s the only one. The flavor came to me as a bit of a shock. It’s very smoky. Like drinking a campfire smoky. And the black tea base is very strong. I know it’s probably not the best lapsang souchong out there but given the bold flavor I have to say it’s definitely an acquired taste. I can only drink it when I’m having Chinese food, and only when I’m in the mood for it with my meal.
Flavors: Astringent, Burnt, Smoke

I used to buy Mystic Monk Coffee before my body decided it didn’t like coffee anymore. When I heard they branched out into tea, I wanted to try it out.
This tea has the blend of fruit and spices that make you think of Christmas. All the flavors balance well. It smells great. Unsweetened it’s kind of bland. You need a bit of honey to get the flavors out. Overall a nice tea to have with breakfast or as a stand alone.

This is one of their seasonal blends. It’s a black tea flavored with orange peel, cinnamon, and fruit flavor. When you open the back, you really smell the orange peel. It’s the predominant scent and flavor. There’s just a hint of cinnamon to make it feel a little more Christmasy but it’s the orange that stands out. Unsweetened it’s kind of bland but with a bit of honey all the flavors come out. It’s pleasant and I’ll be buying it again next Christmas.
