1324 Tasting Notes
This sample kindly came from Derk
I love the smell of both the dry and wet tea leaf.
Unfortunately taste wise there is a little too much going on. It’s quite heavy on the spices and the balance just isn’t there. I’ve had a chai tea that tasted almost exactly like this but also smelled really good. I can’t remember which one it was though. Perhaps it’s meant to be taken with milk? Glad to have gotten the chance to try it though. I’d much prefer drinking a chai like this with a bit too much spice/competing flavors than a black tea chai with a bitter base.
Preparation
It’s Chai season so I figured I’d work on finishing the bag I have of this. It’s almost gone and I realized I hadn’t reviewed it.
I don’t like this one but that is partially due to personal preference and partially due to the base. The black tea is somewhat bitter and the chili and spices in this create a very pepper-heavy taste. I do taste the elderberry and it’s quite nice but unfortunately, it’s rather hidden by the spices. I don’t think it meshes well with the spices. I’d love to see an elderberry chai that is more balanced spice-wise. I could see 52 Teas doing this flavor combination justice.

Preparation
I’ve been trying to find a place to get a single sachet of this company’s jasmine tea to give to a friend. I remembered them mentioning this coffee shop they loved that I’d never heard of. I figured it was worth a try to look up what tea they carry and what do you know? They serve just what I was looking for. Not only that but they had this tea!! This one has been on my to try list for quite a while. I’ve been to many places that serve Steven Smith tea but they never served this one.
This one isn’t bad it’s got a lot going on and is an interesting combination of flavors and ingredients. There’s a strong taste of roasted rice but alongside that is a slightly citrusy bergamot flavor and a hint of rose. I’m not sure how I feel about the bergamot, rose, and toasted rice all in one tea though. I like that this blend is a Portland-inspired one in name as well.
I don’t think I’d need to purchase this one since the bergamot rice combo isn’t one I’d often reach for vs. a classic genmaicha. I need to try this one again steeped at a lower temperature as they used boiling water. Perhaps it would be a bit more balanced steeped at a lower temp. Next time I’d take the sachet home.

This tea sample came from Derk and thanks again for the lovely teas! I can’t wait to try the loose leaf ones as well.
This is a lovely fall herbal bagged tea. The sweet apple flavor is spot on and the chamomile with the gentle spices feels very fall-like. It’s light in flavor but I’m really enjoying it. Fall herbal bagged teas often don’t work for me as they usually are either hibiscus heavy or have the overpoweringly sweet cinnamon flavor. I will definitely buy a box of this if I can find it!

I thought that I had already reviewed this but it’s not showing up if I did.
This one never really worked for me. I’m kind of picky when it comes to chocolate teas I suppose. The chocolate here comes across a bit dusty or chalky almost which is disappointing. Luckily I usually order sample packets so I’m not stuck with an entire tin. The base is smooth but I wish there was more coconut. It’s also quite nutty tasting.
