1908 Tasting Notes
Another tea I got from Ricky. This looks a fair bit like Adagio’s Yunnan Jig with twisted, wiry leaves and some gold tips. It lacks the smokiness and the cocoa notes of the Adgio’s tea however. It has a bit of a toasty quality to it, but I found it to be rather bitter, at least initially. I kept drinking it and realize about half-way through the cup that “Hey this isn’t that bad”. I’ll have to try this tea with some milk and honey to see if that helps things.
Preparation
I’ve practically been bouncing off the walls since I watched Canada win gold in the Men’s Moguls – the first gold medal won on Canadian soil, whoot!
So in an effort to calm down and get to sleep I knocked back a cup of this. It seems to be working, or maybe it’s just the late hour. Anyways, I’m off to bed – ’night all! :D
Preparation
This is such a girly tea with all its airy, sugary, flowery decadence – I feel so feminine drinking it! XD
Preparation
Finally a coconut tea that actually has more than a token association with the actual thing (I’m looking at YOU Coconut Chai!). It’s very coconuty-smelling but there’s a sort of malty note that’s almost cocoa…but not quite. It took me awhile to realize what it made me think of – hot Ovaltine. And when I tasted it – yep, Ovaltine tea with a bit of coconut added to it – which isn’t all that bad since I like Ovaltine.
Preparation
The dry tea smells like a straight earl grey, the pungently citrus scent of bergamot pretty much all I could smell. When the water was poured it a sweeter, more berry like quality came through.
To me the tea still tastes mostly like an earl grey tea, although the bergamot is sweeter and there’s a bit of a smoother, creamy quality to it. As it cooled I also caught hint of the red fruits but I didn’t really taste much caramel – I could smell it but my tongue just wasn’t catching it.
Preparation
The boyfriend was a sweetheart and took me out for breakfast and I had a pot of this with my food. The water was a bit too cold to get all the flavour out of the tea IMO, but it was decent especially with a bit of milk. The most prominent notes were of cloves with what tasted like anise a close second. There was also some cardamom and the pepper gave the tea a bit of a bite. It’s too harsh to drink without milk I think, but it’s a nice blend with something to take the edge off.
Mmm I love the smell of cocoa in the moring – especially on Valentines Day. This is a good tea if you need something strong to kick-start your day. :)
