358 Tasting Notes
Bought this among a bunch of other tisanes the other day to drink when I don’t want caffeine and want a large mug of something to keep warm. Tried this the other day when I wasn’t feeling great and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. It didn’t taste the way I thought it would. I realized afterward that this has added natural flavoring, which may be why I feel meh about it. And one of those flavorings is hazelnut, and while I like hazelnuts, I am allergic to them so that may or may not be a bad thing. I clearly didn’t read the ingredients on this one before I bought it.
Nothing like good gyokuro in the morning. This is one that I continue to enjoy coming back to again and again, and I plan to try others from Nakamura-en. I’m glad I bought this in a large quantity, as it has made it possible for me to share with a few people and still have a good amount for my stash. :3
Decided to move onto pu after a failed oolong. Gave this one a wash and started sipping on the following steep. The wash water looked almost like it had a pink tint to it, and the first steep is a deep red and starts off delicate and buttery with a hint of earth.
Second steep brings more buttered earth up front with a sweet finish. I enjoyed this all through the afternoon, to the point that I lost track of how long I went with it. This has a nice, consistent flavor and is very easy to drink. I would like to steep with more leaf next time.

Preparation
So, this was one of the picks we got as part of the DF group buy and I’ve been putting off trying it because it smells scary to me.
Wash. Steep. Sip.
Nope.
Tastes fake. The wash toned down the scary smell, but that smell totally carries over into the flavor. I won’t be drinking this again.
rhinkle had been waiting for us to be able to try this one together, so I broke one coin in half and threw it in the gaiwan tonight to eat with the daifuku we just finished making. Gave it one wash and the following steep produced a very light liquor that became a deeper gold over subsequent steeps.
From the very first steep, this one has a super smooth texture and a delicate floral flavor that eventually reveals fruitiness and a hint of underlying creaminess.
A few steeps in the qi hits suddenly. A few more steeps later and a distinct sweetness emerges. The material in this ended up being quite broken up, but this was still very good!

Preparation
Drinking more birthday tea! Starting the year off with some shou. Used 10 grams, did two washes and started enjoying this one immediately. It steeps up nice and dark in the first steep, but the darkness of the liquor really shines in steep two.
This is good stuff. Both rhinkle and I enjoy it. It’s nice, deep, earthy, super smooth and has an appreciable hint of creaminess. Very calming qi. Sweetness really starts to emerge over time.
