250 Tasting Notes
Tried a little sample of this in-store, so not much to go on review-wise.
The smell of the dry leaves is like ice cream, butterscotch ripple to be exact. The taste, not as delicious, but drinkable. I’d have to buy some and try it at home to be sure, but I currently have enough tea right now.
It’s my birthday today… what’s better than birthday cake?
This tea. Oh, and smoked gouda cheese. But mostly this tea.
To reiterate my other reviews…
First steep @ 94°C for 2 min: creamy, buttery notes first, which subtly z give way to something reminiscent of leafy greens, with the slightest hint of sweetness.
Second steep @ 95°C for 4 min: Like the first, but much more delicious!
Third steep @ 96°C for 5 min: Almost identical in taste to the first, less flavourful than the second.
Fourth steep @ 98°C for 7 min: Still delicious. Might even get a 5th!
Preparation
There seems to be a lot of hate for this tea, but I’m not sure why?
I happen to find it a fairly decent Earl Grey compared to Twinnings (cardboard-tasting) or Second Cup (too much orange) or Stash (licorice?! how’d that get in there??), yet not quite up to par with Numi’s aged Earl Grey. Still, if I’m craving a London Fog I keep a stash of these teabags in my purse and head down to the local cafe to order an extra hot vanilla steamer. Then, I just add my own teabag. Easy-peasy-bergamot-squeasy.
I find that on it’s own it can be rather overpowering with bergamot. However, steep this baby in extra hot milk and it really holds its own. There’s nothing more disappointing than ordering a London Fog only to be underwhelmed by the Earl Grey. Me, I’ve solved that problem.
Preparation
I love that you know the secret to the cheap london fog (and that you’re sharing it!). These bags of earl grey are much better than the new loose leaf ones, aren’t they!
Ali, working as a barista had it’s perks, including learning all the tricks. I’m glad to share! The new loose leaf ones don’t steep nearly strong enough, it makes me sad…
Nope. Still can’t do it.
I even tried brewing it for a shorter time at a slightly lower temp, BUT this tea and I were not meant to be.
At least my 13-month-old enjoyed sipping on it lukewarm…
Preparation
Same thing for me! it tastes strange! but not good strange! That’s why it was only a tea of the month I guess, and it didn’t stay after that!
Very strange, indeed. I’ve tried everything to make this palatable: different steep times, temps, mixing with other teas. Nothing makes it good. Sigh.
Maybe this will make it yummy! http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidstea/6767508877/in/photostream/
I’m giving this one another go—since I still have plenty left—but adjusting the temp & time.
Someone recommended that the reason I’ve been having trouble with this tea is that I’ve been steeping it too hot for too long. Oh, probably. So, today I tried steeping it at only 75°C for only 3-4 minutes and… it still tastes bland.
Yes, I’m getting the apple-y-ness and the pie-y-ness, but it’s not astounding my taste-buds into believing that I am drinking apple pie. Just an apple & spiced green tea. I guess this one is destined to become a “company tea” that I serve to guests who want something a little fancier than plain black tea, yet I won’t be sad to see it go.
Preparation
I’m at my parents house doing laundry and I need tea! They have a plethora of choice, but I need something caffeine-free and tasty. This one never fails to be sweet, spiced, and satisfying. Not overly rooibos-y or fruity, just a nice balance of flavours.
Preparation
Hi! This will sound really weird. I’m new to this website, but I noticed that there’s an “want it” and “own it” section… I’ve been looking for a place to buy this Tetley spiced plum rooibos tea for such a long time (it’s my mom’s favorite and I promised to track it down). Would you still happen to own any? Sorry for bothering you; I’d be so grateful if you let me know :)
Another white tea problem solved by using a lower steep temp + short steep!
I’m down to my last cup of this, not sure if I will get more once it is gone. It’s pretty expensive considering all the heavy fruit bits that take up space, plus I much rather Strawberry White’s subtle flavour. It is a nice “company tea” though, that always seems to elicit swoons whenever I serve it.
All-in-all though, this is a nice, fruity tea. If steeped according to DAVIDsTEA’s instructions I find that the cherry overwhelms the delicate white tea base, but once I steeped it using the 30sec @ 80°C method it mellowed out considerably! From my last 2tsp I was able to get 3 steeps all increasing in flavour! Hmmm… odd, but effective.
Preparation
Just so you know – They’ve discontinued Strawberry white. Stock up if you can!!!! If not, they’re coming out with a comparable white. It won’t be the same though.
I know man, I was upset when I found out too!!! Still not 100% sure if it’s true.. It’s definitely off the shelves though :-(
Hmmmm. Well I hope that’s what it really is, and that I was misinformed! But “reblending” is what they also said they were doing to the old ayurvedic line. Time will only tell. :-(
