1040 Tasting Notes
Ever have one of the roller coaster – OMG the sky is falling, the world is ending kind of days. That was me from 5PM yesterday until about 8 PM tonight. All is well that ends well, but I don’t like those days. Anyway, now that all is right in my world again, I’ve decided that I didn’t drink enough tea today. Feel like I’m suffering from withdrawal. It’s late, so I chose a rooibos.
First off, I just want to send a sincere apology to everyone I sent a sample of this to. (I need to stop sharing teas I haven’t tried yet.)
This tea (to me anyway) tastes like powdered ginger. All I’m getting is ginger, and not fresh nice ginger. Icky powdered ginger. No cookies, no rooibos,no nuts, just overwhelming, drown out everything else ginger. :((
Thanks JackieT for sending me this sample. I drank the whole sample tonight in 3 separate steeps. I like it best at 90 C for 3.5 minutes. I also like more rather than less leaf.
This is a great blueberry black tea, sadly though I was expecting some of the cream cheese danish part of the name to shine through. I’m not getting it, I played with steep times and temp and I get blueberry, but not the rest. :((
Hmmmmmmm, I’m not sure what Tulsi is. Ok I know what google says it is, but I don’t think I’ve ever run into it before. I’m going out on a limb and assume that tulsi is the weirdness in this chai. It’s not bad just had a weird taste amongst the spices. It’s really spicy, I may have to try other Fusion Tea chai to see how they compare, but if you take that “weird” out of this it would be amazing. This is getting more mellow as it cools, the flavors are coming together more harmoniously. Glad to have tried it, not sure it will become my go to chai, but I like it (weirdness and all).
hah. glad you tried this before me. I looked at it tonight and decided i was not in a chai mood. Now I know what to expect. Sounds like I’m going to love it. LOL
Tulsi’s also called holy basil, it must be something in the chai. I have Fusion Teas’ apple and bear tulsi and it’s not spicy at all.
LOL it might be called holy basil, but I’m not sure my “weird” taste is what I think of as basil. Dunno, it’s not BAD just strange.
I miss only one thing from living in Arizona, and that is my herb bed! I grew 7 or 8 varieties of basil, and holy basil/tulsi really does very different from the other types. I’ve had it in herbal teas here and wasn’t mad keen on it, but am finding it hard to imagine it in that blend.
No chance of growing just a few herbs in a window box or pot? Nothing better than being able to go out and cut fresh herbs from the garden, I understand why you miss it.
Oh, there are lots of herbs that do very well here, and a bit of room in the sunny (or sunnier) back garden, though with two dogs, one male, much of it isn’t ideal for growing anything that’ll be eaten! But basil really doesn’t do well outdoors here, and the indoor pots don’t last very long either. Swings and roundabouts, and I’m happy enough not to have the snakes and scorpions that went with that basil-friendly herb bed! :)
Interesting, most reviewers here don’t like. I do!!!! Thanks Hallieod for sending me this sample.
I steeped this is almost boiling water for quite a while 5+ minutes, then put it in the fridge to cool. I think this is a very good iced tea. I’m not sure I can pick out all the individual fruits, but the end result is very fruity and refreshing. I don’t think it’s overly tart.
Oh good – two you like from Bluebird! I think the anti-hibiscus league has quite a few members here. :)
I love roasted mate. I should really like this tea. Thanks JackieT for sending me a sample of it.
In the package it smells (if not red velvet) at least like chocolate cake. I’m not sure if I messed up steep times, but this lost all it’s scent during steeping. I was left with what to me tastes just like sweetened roasted mate. I didn’t get any chocolate at all. :((
I was drinking this the other night, had about 3 steeps worth, took the used leaves and added 2 cups of cold water and left it sitting on the counter overnight. Was having a discussion about cold steeping on counter vs in fridge. I usually cold steep in the fridge, but was trying this on the counter. In the morning, I drained off the leaves and put the tea in the fridge. Promptly forgot about it, until tonight.
Now I’m trying it. I’m not sure if:
A> I don’t like cold steeped oolong.
B> I shouldn’t have left it in the fridge for 2 days before drinking.
C> It didn’t work as well on the counter as it does in the fridge.
D> The leave didn’t have enough flavor left in them to cold steep.
I can’t even begin to wrap my head around what’s wrong with this, but I don’t like it. Memo to self. Don’t do this again.
It’s cold and rainy here today. Thought it would be a good day to drink the last of the Pumpkin Rooibos.
I think I over leafed the first cup, it was really intense. The spices overwhelmed the pumpkin and the rooibos. The second steep was much better, could actually find some pumpkin amongst the flavors. I only had about a tsp left so I threw that into the used leaves and did a third steep. This is better than the first two.
All in all not the worst pumpkin tea I’ve ever had, but does not live up to Della Terra’s Grandma’s Pumpkin Pie. IMHO.
I have been wanting to try Bluebird Tea pretty much since they popped up here on Steepster. Hallieod was generous enough to send me a sample of it.
This is everything I hoped it would be. It tastes like Rhubarb. I like that it’s a bit subtle, not in your face. The rooibos is just barely there, making a nice base against the rhubarb. I did put a little sweetener in this, it really helped to pop the flavors. I really enjoyed it. I see a Bluebird order in my very near future.
Neapolitan is my favorite ice cream!!!! Not sure how it translates into tea. Interesting, but not ice cream, at least not to my taste buds. I also don’t think this was balanced for me between the chocolate/strawberry/vanilla, I thought the strawberry overpowered the other two flavors. I was expecting it to be creamy, I just kept thinking that ice cream is creamy, I ended up adding some milk to get that effect. I’m being really negative, and honestly is wasn’t BAD, just not what I was hoping for. I’m going to try and cold steep some of it and see how that goes. For now I think it was just ok.
Edit: 3 tsp of this tea in a mason jar of water in the fridge for 20 hours does not equal a good iced tea. I even tried adding milk and sweetener trying to do a fake iced latte. Nope, I don’t like this cold.
I’m enjoying this. It’s a nice light milky oolong. Beautiful big green leaves. I will admit that I didn’t get much, if any coconut flavor until I added a bit of sweetener. I’m still only getting a hint of coconut, but that’s ok with me. I would rather have a hint of coconut in the nice oolong, than have it overpowered by icky artificial coconut. This isn’t my favorite oolong but it’s nice.
Horrible that you had a nasty tea finishing off your rotten day! Hope today is lots better!
