326 Tasting Notes
I originally bought this tea for my husband, because he takes blended black tea to work. ( He only has access to boiling water) But this tea has really grown on me. I find it funny that this is in their spring collection. It tastes so “heavy” and I don’t associate any flavors with spring in particular.
One thing I noticed is that after about 2 minutes of steeping, it gets a little bitter. I think this actually adds something positive to the drinking experience. Fantasy Island kind of reminds me of eating dark chocolate w/ raspberries. I’m surprised that this doesn’t include chocolate of some sort, because it would totally fit in. However I’m not a big fan of chocolate or candy in my tea, so I’m glad this blend does without it.
Not my favorite blended black tea, but I will probably refill my DAVIDsTEA canister at least once. I’ve enjoyed steeping this twice, my husband still enjoys it on the third one.
Preparation
Until now I really have not had an “enjoyable” pu erh. So I was very happy when I picked out this tea and tried it. Camellia Sinensis (the company), sells a lot of pu erh so I’ll definitely try some others in the future.
For today’s cup, I steeped it three times (+ rinse). Each of them were enjoyable, and I didn’t feel the urge to dump the water after the first sip. Not something I want to drink often, but nice every now and then. Looking forward to trying more pu erhs. :)
Preparation
Finished my 50g bag of this today. When I had my first cup of this tea, I was blown away by how much lavender there is. I’ve tried Jessie’s Tea before, and that only has a slight hint of lavender, while Lavender Zen has a very strong flavor.
Personally, I don’t like lavender a whole lot. Even so, I think the green tea works really well with lavender. So while I enjoyed being able to try this, I wouldn’t buy more.
Preparation
I’m not disappointed or impressed with this tea. It is simply just another breakfast blend. Which doesn’t mean it is not enjoyable. I love black tea, and David’s Organic Breakfast meets that requirement. ;)
My husband takes this to work (in a rotation with other black teas), but feels the same way I do about it. My “breakfast” tea is usually Black Needles or Lapsang Souchong. If I’m especially tired, Saigon Chai does the work too, because if nothing else smelling the spices will wake me up.
Preparation
It is really hard to buy a bad oolong from DavidsTea, and this is no exception. Sweet, creamy, smooth with a hint of floral flavor.
Overall I like it, but I don’t like it enough to go for a refill when I run out. I enjoyed trying this once (25g bag), but it isn’t a tea that I want in my permanent stash.
Preparation
Smell: In the bag, the spices really jump out at me. While smelling this at the store I had the urge to sneeze. Brewed, its still pretty much the spices that stand out.
Flavor: I’ve said this before but, when there is peppermint in my tea it REALLY stands out. I mostly taste peppermint, spices and a hint of tea. The tea is only noticeable because it gives the drink a nice base.
Aftertaste: Peppermint lingers for a while, which is a nice tingly and refreshing feeling.
Steeps: 1
Preparation
Absolutely disgusting, I can see why this is no longer listed on their website. I understand that this is supposed to taste “earthy”, and I gave it a rinse, but I still can’t stomach this. I don’t normally rate teas this low, but I seriously can’t take another sip without gagging.
Pu-erh can taste good, I hope this hasn’t turned anyone away from it.
