865 Tasting Notes
My 1st Jamba Juice experience! Had a double in Seattle Sunday nite. SO delicious, but I must admit I’m very disappointed to find out I didn’t come up w/ this idea. It’s so nice to have the ratios perfect when you don’t make it yourself- especially when it comes to something like matcha
Preparation
This tea has terrified me since I 1st heard about it, but I decided to try this Fri. afternoon after getting into Seattle since it was only $2 and the profits of the coffee shop go to support New Horizons Ministry.
16oz of unknown temp/1 bag (bag?!) for approx 5min. Clean
Very light chai, but it was balanced by the light dirt like flavor of the shu base. I did not hate it- in fact, when I get my sampler I wanna try this w/ milk.
I got this w/ the Theo chocolates I won in the Rishi FB contest a while ago so I decided to have this after lunch.
The aroma of the dry pearls is so strong I can taste it- but I’ve learned not to be scared off by that when it comes to jasmine teas- especially pearls.
Prepared as suggested: 1TB (66 pearls or 8.83g!- My tea/water ratio isn’t that strong for even my pu erh!)/8oz water- 6oz is my normal size for a cuppa, but measuring 2/3 of a TB is a pain- now I know to use 44 pearls for a 6oz cup.
The liquor is much darker than when I had it at the cafe… as in there is one lol! It’s a lovely and translucent golden color. The aroma is obviously stronger as well. A good amount of jasmine, but also a solid green tea aroma that prevents it from smelling like perfume.
The flavor is much like the liquor- quite jasminey, but not sickeningly so. The green tea is in the back ground, but serves as a great base for this tea. Steeping it this way almost makes the jasmine seem less pronounced because the green tea is more present. The iced version tasted how that looked as well- like iced jasmine water.
Preparation
I’m thinking that the cheesecake flavor may come across stronger thru vanilla than chocolate- or at least I hope it does.
Like the chocolate, this has no large green cardamom pods- so that’s a few points off right there. The aroma is extremely light- definitely not a “smack ya in the face” tea. And like the chocolate, the liquor is a light reddish brown- possibly lighter than the chocolate, but I’m not sure w/o doing a side by side.
1 heaping tsp (only 3.3g!)/6oz, hot and clean
Wow. This tea is disappointing. VERY little, if any, vanilla,…no cheesecake… very little spice. The black tea base has absolutely no problems coming thru the flavors- in fact it’s by far the strongest- but even the mouth feel and flavor are quite watery. A very smooth, light black tea w/ just a faint touch of spice. I hope these 2 are better w/ milk.
Preparation
Ok. What the heck. My order is here ALREADY- only 3 days after being shipped! Why do my orders from KS take either 3 days or 3 weeks…? lol. Anyway. Time to dig in!
I’m a little disappointed I don’t see any huge, gorgeous, green cardamom pods when I open my tin- that’s one of the many reasons I love their Mayan Chocolate Chai. It smells smooth and chocolatey, but I’m not getting the cheesecake. Which is fine, I don’t know what the heck cheesecake smells like anyway lol.
1 heaping tsp (3.75g)/6oz just below boiling water.
The liquor is quite dark in shade and a reddish brown in color. It’s not completely translucent do to the chocolate and spices.
The aroma is rather chocolatey, although not CHOCOLATE! like a baking cake would be. There’s a hint of spice. No cheesecake (again- all good).
hmmm… chocolate, check.- Although I wish it was as chocolatey as the Mayan Chocolate Chai. It’s not. Spice- a bit. I’ve had stronger. No cheesecake, but there is a smoothness to it. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the cheesecake, so it could very well be in there. I think I need to taste Zoomdweebie’s cream cheese flavored black so I know exactly what I’m looking for. This reminds me of a lighter version of Numi’s Organic Chocolate Pu Erh. All flavors (especially the cheesecake) need to be stronger. Oh yeah, it needs cayenne too:)
Preparation
This (and the caramel one) came today so I’m having it for dessert.
The aroma of the dry leaf unfortunately has little chocolate scent. It’s primarily the roastyness of the oolong and the creme.
I pretty much ignored the steeping suggestion as always- or at least the generic ones on the tin. Luckily there was a card giving more a more appropriate suggestion. Up to 10 min? Wow. I’ll start w/ 5.
1 heaping tsp (about 3g)/6oz water.
Wow… the liquor is so light compared to the regular coffee oolong- almost like a dark cider. And unfortunately the flavor matches. It has neither a coffee or strong mocha flavor… just a roasty, but smooth, oolong. I’ll wait til I try a 10 min steep to rate it.
Preparation
In honor of today’s Steepster Select, I decided to go thru the set again. Light and smooth, slightly crisp. A great choice for a not all that warm summer day when you still want hot tea… although this entire set would be amazing iced as well. Not to mention it’s a gorgeous tea to watch steep!
