Bolder Breakfast

I have tried to like this tea as I got a whole bag of it when I ordered my Tuffy tea steeper. Alas, while I do taste the black tea and maybe a bit of creamy puerh, I get a weird chocolate aftertaste. I don’t mind the cocoa addition to this breakfast blend, just don’t appreciate the artificial taste it leaves in my mouth. In my mind I compare it to the Vanilla SF herb tea that is so very simple vanilla flavor that it doesn’t try to be something else. Bolder breakfast is a chemical aftertaste in a puerh disguise.

This was presumably a sample from Sil, since it’s my writing on the sample bag – thanks! This is dang good. Malty, creamy, bold, smooth. Really quite delicious. I did not expect this! I would drink this again in a heartbeat. I did notice that the flavours were better after the tea had cooled, but I drink most of my tea cool anyhow.

I picked it up in my Black Friday Frenzy, and I perhaps should have read the description a little more carefully. A puher, and a chocolate tea? Neither are really my thing, but hey, I’ll give it a shot.
It needs a light steep, or else the whole thing gets too earthy for my taste, and it smells more strongly of chocolate than it tastes…

Because of my Cashew Turtle from 52teas earlier, that got me to a very chocolate mood and I pulled this tea out!
For some reason it smelled like green tea leaves?? It was so weird. But it tasted like nice chocolate fudge! I got some hints of butter in it, as well as the lovely smooth chocolate taste :)

Okay, I had less leaves this time and I needed to wake up for a workout, so I have energy bias towards this one. Also, this was like $2.75 per ounce, so it was SUPER cheap. It still tastes like cookies, but I like the Pu-Erh and Black base significantly more this time. It also has a maple syrup like sweetness that I am digging. Definitely upping my rating, and that may be because I used fewer leaves and longer soaking.

I love this tea! It has a great chocolate smell and taste to me. Always have my black teas with a dash of soy creamer (going to try almond creamer soon), and it makes this tea even more scrumptious. Have already re-bought but forgot to save my tin! Aggh.

Oops, I accidentally deleted my tasting note. Basically, I pulled this one from the T&C TTB before sending it off based purely on the fact that it had “breakfast” in the name. I didn’t realize until after taking a few sips and going onto Steepster that there was puerh in the blend. That would explain how it got so dark (it looked like coffee!) and why it was less malty than I expected it to be. I also found it sweeter than I expected, which seems to have been on purpose. It was a bit of a caramel taste to me rather than chocolate. And finally, I also feel like I tasted some kind of spice. That’s about as specific as I can get. I also spilled about half of my mug as I foolishly practiced doing headstands near the cup. A have a nice little tea stain on my carpet to remind me not to do that again. Oops!

Black tea, pu-erh, and chocolate? I’ll bite. Not too much chocolate here – wisps of it at the top of the cup. It’s not a strong pu-erh and I don’t think pu-erh could be bold anyway… pu-erh is usually so smooth! A little bite to this one… but I wouldn’t call it bolder than the rest! But the three elements here made for an interesting cup. I ‘m not sure why there aren’t more black tea/pu-erh blends, as they have the same steep temp most of the time anyway.

I may have under watered/over leafed this because I’m getting a slight bitter taste mingling with all the other flavors. This tea is heavy, all base notes and earthiness with the pu erh and chocolate. I added some sweetened coconut creamer and it really changed the cup. It gives it an almost root beer base. It is interesting and I think there is a lot of potential for chocolate pu erh, but this one isn’t quite hitting the spot for me.

Yum, Mocha! Smells like hot chocolate. I don’t like most teas that taste like chocolate but this one does not offend me. I’m really enjoying this giant mug of this, even as it cools it does not get bitter, stays smooth. I have this itch to add milk to it but it’s yummy just the way it is. I kind of shy away from teas with puerh but I’m trying to be more open minded and I’m so glad I got a chance to try this and see myself getting more in the future.
