If oolong tea can be chic, Wenshan Baochong is it: sophisticated, refined, unctuous (save it for your fanciest friends—or for yourself). With Wenshan Baochong, aroma is of the utmost importance: a rich, strong fragrance is indicative of a good, high-end product. Unroasted with floral aromas, most of Wenshan Baochong Oolong’s tea leaves are unoxidized, giving it a quality reminiscent of a green tea with a dash of DongDing. Floral notes and aroma arise naturally from the tea leaves.

Wenshan Baochong Oolong grows in the Wenshan region of Northern Taiwan, where the year-long mild climate and fog-filled air give the tea a distinct, refined quality. Wenshan Baochong tea turns a golden honey-green color after steeping and has a delightful floral flavor with a sweet finish.

Tea leaves are bright green and twisted into long strands.

This is the most floral of the three oolongs I’ve tried from Tea Ave. Big spinachy leaves; nice bronze velvet color and texture. It smells like Mom’s lilac bush, and the taste is close, too. Nice cup of spring when all about me is muddy, cindery, snow slush.

This is not the one I’d choose for a Tea Ave rerun, I think—that’d probably be the Dong Ding—but that’d due to personal preference, not to the excellence of the oolong! Those of you with more delicate palates than me will likely love this.

My first boachong and I’m loving it! It’s so good lightly floral, creamy and feels so silky. There’s a tasty note I’m getting like vanilla.. or maybe coconut? Very happy with this one

I reviewed this year over a year ago but I still dug up an extra unopened sample a few days ago when going through my teas. Today I have finished off the last speck of this tea. Over a year old and it’s still outstanding. Floral with a creaminess to it.

Still…. I am glad to cross another one off my tea list even though I loved this one. Down to 160 teas. At one time I though around 120-130 was reasonable. Then it ballooned up to about 190 around Christmas. I want to try to keep all my teas under 100 (maybe even 80) but if I can get down to 130 I will be happy!

Well, crap. so much for getting my tea list down. I just saw 20% off at Tealyra and placed an order for some herbal teas I needed plus some I didn’t need just to get the free shipping.

This is the problem of having your finger on the pulse of the tea world: you find out about sales and then it’s all over. I filled up my shopping cart at Tealyra and walked away. I need to do far more shopping in my home stash which overfloweth.

I’ve been good from Jan to March. April I broke down and placed a tiny order at Grand Tea to get some new 2016 white teas. I could feel it building up after so long of hardly any tea shopping.

I’ve only ever had one other wenshan boachong, but I’m a fan of that one, so I was excited to try another. The dry leaf smelled so fresh and yummy, I couldn’t wait to dig in! This one tastes a lot like the other one I have, but maybe a little better. That could be because this one is more fresh though. It tastes like buttered buttermilk loaf with a touch of edamame. It’s also a bit floral. I’m not good at describing floral, but maybe orchid-like? My husband said it smells like candles, so I guess he’s picking up more of the floral aspect then me. It also smells like vanilla cake to me. Yum! Definitely a winner. :) Thanks, Teaave, for this sample!!
