Long Life Oolong

I stopped by David’s Tea today to pick up some stuff for a friend who lives overseas. I also used this opportunity as an excuse to pick up some samples of stuff I’ve been wanting to try. They finally got those teas I wanted back in stock! Yaaaay! And since Steepster has been acting better lately, you’ll likely be seeing my thoughts on those teas soon!

After chatting with my tea helper and sniffing teas, I got a bit thirsty. So I ordered this iced to go. It’s only ok. While the icy cold drink was very refreshing on a hot moist day, the flavor was only so so. The peach was too candy-like for my taste and the oolong was a bit too grassy and metallic. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t taste like high quality oolong either. And there’s supposed to be some almond in here? Hmm…didn’t really notice.

I don’t regret this tea. I’m happy i tried it, but I have better things waiting for me.

Also, if I lived or worked closer to David’s Tea, I’d be all over their iced tea promo! $1 iced teas all summer long if you bring in their own special travel cup. The cup is $9ish. Tempting…veeery tempting….

Why yes, I am dramatic. and yes, I do have a bachelor of fine arts degree. I studied 4 years to be this dramatic so deal with it! :D That’s what I tell my poor boyfriend anyways.

Speaking of anyways – THIS TEA

First steep: A little over 4 min.
The colour of this tea is so vibrant! The smell is more muted than the dry smell of course, but it’s gorgeous and I want to bathe in it. My first Oolong o: It’s very tasty, and I really didn’t know what to expect! It has a very full body, I feel like I could use this tea as a lunch replacement when I’m still full from breakfast haha.
I like it, it is earthy, as it the way of the oolong I suppose. I can’t wait to compare this to the milk oolong I also purchased.
It’s sweet and hits the spot! I’m very impressed.

Subsequent steeps to come. I’m savouring it in the meantime.

I really need to clear out more tea. Back to drinking things I haven’t tried yet! I was feeling like an oolong and this one was at the top of the oolong box. I knew it was peachy but I did not realize it had almonds in it so hopefully it tastes okay to my annoying taste buds.

And it does! It reminds me of Prosperous Peach Oolong from Teavana which I still have 2485729 pounds of (roughly) but less oolong tasting. Of course I use more than the instructions state for that one but I wasn’t sure how this one was going to be. Very peachy is the answer! I also like the more subtle apricot in there too.

There is this underlying nuttiness as the fruit flavors fade. Not really a fan of that.

I can’t decide yet if this is something I will want to drink again but I think I at least have to try it iced.

Upon reviewing my previous note, the first time I drank this tea I was at work and didn’t really have good equipment. A disposable filter and a pot to boil water in. The second steep was much more flavourful so I rated it high enough.

I am now drinking it again (sipdown) and it’s like I never had this before. I used about 2 tsp for maybe 12 oz. which I think technically means I overleafed. But it is so good! So different! I know it’s different because I never tasted apricot in tea before. I sipped this expecting peach and my mouth immediately said “this ain’t peach, hon, this here is a-pri-cot!”

I am really digging this tea! And also, no sugar, yay! What a flavour difference between this tasting and the previous one.
Very apricot 1st steep at 4 minutes. Orange liquor, quite clear. For the second steep I reduced the amount of water maybe too much because I’m getting a lot less fruit and a strong oolong. I always found oolong to be a fairly light tea so am surprised at the loud second steep, almost astringent. Am also getting some orange rind taste. I’m simply amazed. Have I changed, has the tea?, do the brewing conditions matter that much? I now feel like making tea is like baking bread, you just never know!

My first almond tea! Yes, I did it, I had a cup of an almond tea, and im good so far in terms of allergies! I’ll review this as best as I can with it being my first tea with nuts in it lol, and first nuts pretty much!

The dry smell is super peachy and fragrant, with a hint of almond. I steeped for 4 minutes (shortest amount of time for the almonds lol) and the smell is still peachy, fresh yet quite sweet as well.

As for the flavor, this is pretty tasty! I get a lot of nutty flavor, but that’s probably because I’m not used to that flavor at all. The peach adds a sweetness to complement the almond quite nicely. This is a fresh and satisfying cup, seems filling to me, but that could be the pizza I had had for for dinner lol.

Overall, a tasty tea for my first ever tea with actual almonds in it! For almond flavoring, i still like the almond matcha by Red leaf the best, but this has a slightly similar flavor but not as sweet. I’m not rating it yet as this was an experiment and i definitely can’t fully form an opinion on it until I try almonds more often. Yay for things working out well though in my testing!!

So…. I thought I liked this one. Brewed some up today, and for some reason, the smell was nauseating, and reminded me far too much of Mango Diablo, which reminds me in turn of cooked green peppers. Which are disgusting, to me. Oh, associations. It definitely tasted peachy, although I couldn’t pick out the oolong base, but I really did not enjoy this cup. So much so that I actually dumped it out. To put this in perspective, I didn’t even dump out the darjeeling I tried today and didn’t particularly care for, as I still found it to be drinkable. I don’t think it’s the fault of this tea at all, but I don’t think I’ll ever drink any of this again. Strangely enough, I found yesterday’s Peaches and Cream Oolong from Teaopia more palatable than this one (although would prefer not to drink it again either). Perhaps peach teas are not my thing? I still have Peach Hoppi-Tea from Azzrian to try, maybe that will suit me better?

I feel like rating this would be unfair, as I don’t really think there’s anything wrong with it. My rating would be in the 40s, and this is probably a 70-80 tea. Oh well, at least I only have a cup’s worth left, and I think my roommate likes this one…

I got a tea package today from a friend in NYC. Yum!

This is one of the ones she sent me. It’s a really peachy oolong, and there’s some sort of spice to it too.

My tastebuds are kind of on the fritz, but this is still good!

And I was surprised and happy to see that she’d included a blend with ginger… as much as I hate ginger, it’s good for sore throats.

Made some homemade chocolate peanut butter cookies for my parents today. They’ll be home soon and they’re ice cold in the fridge – just like how my mom likes ‘em. I hope she enjoys them! She doesn’t get things like this too often anymore, and she deserves it.

While my parents sit and enjoy some cookies, I’m going to enjoy this peachy peachy oolong. Mmmm. I like peaches. I (generally) really like oolongs. Match made in heaven, yes? Pretty much. The taste I’m getting from this is probably what peach milk would be reminiscent of, if such a thing exists. It’s creamy and fruity and everything I’d expect in a peach oolong.

I don’t know if I’d crave this on a regular basis, but I do really like it. Well done, Davids.

It’s an oolong! And it’s peachy! And it’s.. OK. I may have misteeped it. It doesn’t wow me.

The dry tea is very pretty though. So many fruity bits.
