This tea is heaven in liquid form. It is my addiction. First thing I do in the morning is make a cuppa of this baby with milk and sugar to go with my breakfast. Even while staying at someone’s house or camping, this baby comes with me. Life would not be complete without it.

I grew up on Salada and Lipton orange pekoes, and spent years trying to find a tea that satisfied my needs yet was loose leaf and (if only possible) organic. I tried DTs Orange Pekoe and English Breakfast, and they were good but nothing special. David’s Organic Breakfast is everything I ever wanted in a tea, and more. It has a rich, bold, deep taste and the most inviting aroma. It is bagged orange pekoe X 10,000,000.

If you have not tried this tea yet, please do. Your mug will never be the same again.

What to drink with bacon and eggs in the morning? This, it seems. This poor sachet has been sitting on the counter for weeks, waiting for my mother to drink it. Apparently she’s not into breakfast blends anymore; when I was little, they were all she would drink, and I hated them then too. I’m not sure what it is about them, but it takes anything that was interesting about the teas individually and compresses them into one generic “tea” flavor. This probably means I’m a terrible person to review this one. Oh, well.

This is undoubtedly an Irish style blend. I don’t mind assam by itself but for some reason in blends it makes me cringe. This tea also needs to be closely watched, because if it’s left too long it’ll get so strong it’ll walk away. Since I can’t stand Irish style breakfast teas and can’t stand Guinness, does this mean I can’t claim Irish descent anymore?

On to the brew. So bitter! So…I don’t even know if this can be called malty. More like “muddled.” It doesn’t have a clear flavor. Well, at least this is gone now. That’s the last of the sachet sampler I got from DAVIDs, and I liked 5/6 blends. Not too bad.

This is a good cup of tea. I have definitely had better black teas, but I am enjoying this.

It is a very straight black tea. As others here have noted, I don’t find anything particularly special about this tea. If you like straight black tea, you will probably like this. I like straight black teas.

This is my first cup of tea in the morning, and I would definitely drink this again.

Delicious blend. Plain and simple. A good way to introduce new people to a familiar taste in tea that isn’t bagged.

I can both smell and taste the Assam, which I love. :)

The best breakfast tea I have ever tasted, hands down. David, you’ve done it again!

I put milk and sugar in as it was steeping. The colour is very mild. I like my black teas to have that roux, and this is kind of a chantarelle.
Really interesting smell. I’m used to an orange pekoe for my straight black tea (a la Red Rose.) This almost has a horses quality to it. Like, you know how horse poo is gross but doesn’t smell bad? This tea is kind of horse-pooy.
Interesting mouth feel. It’s a lot thicker than I thought it would be. Almost to the level of a rooibos. Really inoffensive tea. I can see sipping this in morning traffic and getting a tiny sliver of zen before I resume screaming at the douchebag who cut me off/won’t let me in/is driving like a tool.
It smells and tastes like there should he a substantial aftertaste, but it isn’t there. Kind of a twitching at the sides of my tongue, but no aftertaste per se.
I don’t know that I’ll rush out and buy a gigantic bag of this; I still prefer my Red Rose. But it’s a nice inoffensive tea. It’s appropriate for using to warm my body up while I’m working*.

*my “office” is an office chair at the dining room table, but our dining room partly sticks out of the side of the house, and there is INSUFFICIENT insulation in the floor for that. It’s probably a solid 2 degrees colder than anywhere else in the house. So it’s usually my Sesame Street slanket and a big ‘ol cup of tea while I’m working.

This is not very good. It dries my mouth out and tastes super flat- just all around boring and not much to say. I’ll probably keep it for when I’m craving a really milky sugary tea.

With a splash of skim.

So, the blend of black teas in this is going to be changing soon, or possibly depending on the store near where you live has already changed. Basically; this tea is getting an update and stores have already started phasing out the old blend and switching it out with the new one – eventually they’ll all switch it just depends on a combo of how quickly your store sells out of it and where in the country they’re located as to whether or not they’ve received the new version.

My store hasn’t yet, so I decided I’d make a cup of this one and just make sure to revisit it now while I still can. It’s not really a favourite of mine; of all the breakfast blends I think it’s actually probably my least favourite with the Irish Breakfast being my first. It’s not bad either though; I just prefer more of a bready or malty quality to my breakfast teas and I find this one is more fruity with some relatively distinct notes of muscat and brisk citrus, with that sort of crunchy autumn leaf sort of quality to the undertones. It’s nice; just not my preferred profile.

I do look really forward to trying the new version though and seeing how that one stacks up compared to the other breakfast blends. Who knows, maybe I’ll wind up with a new favourite!?

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
