From Dammann Frères

Delicious combination of a blend of black teas with a light and gourmet note evoking brioche and the fruity one of sweet orange and, discreet but pleasant the one of sweet almond. Reminiscent the famous Lombard brioche, a cup with a round and velvety structure to really enjoy like a treat!

Dominant note : Gourmet notes
Type(s) of tea : Black Tea
Main flavor : Almond
Complementary flavor(s) : Orange, Biscuit

Ingredients
Black tea, aromas (almond, biscuit) and sweet orange essential oil, flower petals

This was a funny one to drink right after Krampistachio by BrutaliTeas because it gave me a lot of similar vibes but was more successful overall. Definitely getting both the orange and almond throughout. I’m not familiar with a panettone but this cup feels like a sweet bread with dried fruit and nuts, which sounds like it might fit the bill well!

Adventageddon Day 5

Probably my favourite of the day? Though, honestly, everything was pretty solid today. At first I was mostly just getting the sort of bright, sweet candied orange top notes of this blend and they were lovely but lacking a little in conveying panettone to me. However, this was definitely one of those teas where the flavours build on your palate over time, and after a few bigger sips I started to get a little more of the almond notes and a much more defined brioche-like baked and bready undertone that helped complete the overall profile for me.

Would maybe consider getting more of this as it does give off the vibe of the kind of tea you’d really grow to love with time – that sort of really consistent and reliable “fits all moods” type of blend. I do think maybe I have a few similar teas already, though…

DF Advent — Day 5

Not sure what panettone tastes like. Regardless, this was fine if not disappointing. It smelled great, like white chocolate orange chip cookies but was a bit watery in taste and it produced a drying catch in my throat. The most memorable part of the taste was of jeweled, candied orange.

Glad I’m not the only one who’s never had panettone.

Roswell Strange

They come in all different types of flavours, but basically like an eggy/custardy sort of cross between a brioche bread and cake is how I’d describe it? Someone brought one into work a few days ago that was rum raisin which was very good – but other flavours I see more popular in the grocery store would be orange w/ either nuts or spices, pistachio, chocolate chip, and even lemon.

Roswell Strange

Also it’s seemingly a pretty French European “dessert” – I’d heard of them before, but it wasn’t until moving to Quebec that I actually saw them widely available for purchase and here they make these MASSIVE front of store displays with giant pyramids of them.

Another blend in my holiday stash that I’m just not loving anymore. Slightly bready/cakey tasting, with a touch of fruit. But, there’s an astringent quality that is throwing everything off-balance.

I hesitate to even leave a tasting note for this one because I don’t think I am adding much to the conversation. I have to agree with everyone else, this tea is spot on :) It tastes just like you hope it would taste: buttery and very light. It’s lovely and it makes me think of Christmas.

Dammann Frères Advent Calendar 2022 – Day 2

Even with milk, the velvety butter and almond notes peak through to create the illusion of a festive marzipan orange dessert. It’s decadent, but not cloying or heavy (yes, I get brioche).

My mother, who is once again partaking in this advent journey, loves it too (her rating: 5/5), and even enabled me to buy more (“it’s not so expensive to get this shipped from France?” Dangerous).

Crowkettle

The way my mom is singing praise to this advent, I’ll probably end up ordering more in January too

Dammann Freres 2022 advent calendar Day 2. Like Day 1, I brewed this up in a little Western-style teapot so I could drink it from a teacup & saucer set. When I saw the company describe this as evoking brioche, I hoped it might be similar to or a dupe for ATR’s Brioche. Unfortunately it’s not, but it is tasty! It’s bready and has a fun candy orange note. It pairs nicely with a Te Company pineapple linzer, which has a similar flavor profile. Plus it holds up well on the second steep. I’ve never had panettone so I can’t speak to flavor accuracy, but I enjoyed it anyway!

Dammann Frères Advent Calendar 2022 – Day 2

Ooh, excited to try this one! My husband is Italian-American so we generally buy a panettone around the holidays every year.

This is honestly spot-on and I’m very impressed. It tastes just like an orangey brioche, which is essentially what panettone is. Super buttery and silky smooth with the perfect amount of sweet yet fresh orange flavor. It sounds decadent, but actually it tastes quite light, which is perfect for a light and fluffy panettone. The only thing it’s missing for me is the raisins, which I can live without.

Very scrumptious, this will definitely go on my to-order list!

Now I want to eat a panettone!

Cameron B.

Me too lol! We’ll have to get one soon so I can devour it… :D

Nattie

Chocolate chip panettone > raisin panettone

Cameron B.

Honestly I’m not a fan of the chocolate ones! :P

Nattie

Nooo, chocolate is the way to go! Haha.

Dustin

Chocolate you say? I’ll have to keep an eye out for that version.

Nattie

Yesss, don’t listen to Cameron, the chocolate ones are the best! :P

Cameron B.

Ha ha, I love chocolate but I feel like it overpowers everything else when it’s in pastry.

Nattie

That’s fair. I do love chocolate in pastry though! Pain au chocolat, mmm…

AJRimmer

We make a homemade one where we soak all sorts of dried fruits in rum and amaretto and add lots of zest. It’s a ton of work, so we definitely don’t make it often enough!

Lexie Aleah

I’ve never had panettone but this tea sounds delicious. The orange one sounds yummy.

Nattie

@AJ that sounds incredible! Drooling over here.

Dustin

There is a coffee shop in Oakland that gets chocolate croissants that have little bits of candied orange peel in them and they are AMAZING! I’m imagining chocolate panettone to be in a similar flavor profile.

Nattie

That sounds so good Dustin ! And yup, it does sound similar to the chocolate panettone I’ve had. Shame I can’t try those croissants to compare.

You know when you take a sip and omg, this is the most amazing thing ever comes to you?

Well, yes. Freshly baked homemade butter tart with extremely buttery perfectly baked caramelized pastry with whispers of orange blossom water and toasted almonds.

Happy Christmas to you all, Steepsters! <3

gmathis

Who was it that said, “life isn’t measured in years, but in moments?” I’m glad you had a few of them with what sounds like an absolutely perfect cuppa. Merry Christmas.

Evol Ving Ness

Thank you. Why, yes, yes I did and yes, it was. Moments, yes. A moment of near-perfection can last a lifetime. Happy Christmas to you and yours, gmathis.

Beautiful! May you have many more moments, and some of them soon!
