Popular Tasting Notes
I received this as part of Verdant Tea’s 5 for $5 promotion. I did an initial wash, then 8 sec steep, +4 secs for each additional infusions. I initially used 200 degree water, but dropped that down to 175. This loose leaf sheng is very much a green-leaning tea.
This is not at all what I was expecting. VT describes the tea’s dominant note as very fruity-plantain. Perhaps they were thinking of green plantains, because I love fried ripe plantains, and you should definitely not expect to find those notes in this tea, at least with the sample I was provided.
As others have said, I did get the hay aroma coming through initially, but that faded after the first couple of infusions. There was also a dark chocolate note in the aroma, but it was short lived and disappeared by the third infusion. What I get mostly is vegetal—leafy greens like turnip green pot liquor, a bit sweet, but finishes bitter and leaves the tongue dry.

I spent a lot of time avoiding this tea. The description and name just didn’t do anything for me. I needed to bulk out an order so I thought I’d try something different. This tea was so unexpectedly delish. It smells a bit like a coconut crunch cookie – now I don’t like those kind of cookies but I do like the smell. My husband thought it smelled like fruit crumble, my daughter thought it smelled a bit like carrot cake. The pink colour is quite pleasing and the freshness of the cinnamon is addictive. It has leaped to the top of my tea favourites.
I knew that I wanted an unflavored tea for breakfast this morning so when I started searching through my tea cabinet and came across this one I knew it would be a good choice. It’s been a while since I’ve had this one but I remember that I liked it. Since Teavana is closing its doors, I thought it might be a good idea to try it again to see if I want to buy more while it’s still available.
This is a nice tea even as it cools. I can taste just a bit of chocolate but it isn’t a strong flavor. I do like this one, but I still prefer DAVIDsTEA’s Nepal Black, which this reminds me of, but it doesn’t compare to Nepal Black’s deliciousness. As of right now, I don’t plan to restock this one. I still have plenty left.

I love chamomile tea. And this one did not disappoint. Perfect flavour, you can tell its high quality with nothing intruding with the slightly sweet and soothing flavour of the chamomile flower. An Absolute must try.

The most beautiful smelling and tasting vanilla tea in the world. Strong and gorgeous no matter how I make it. Just makes me so happy.
A subtle, delicately sweet, vanilla floral tea that I really enjoy cold or hot. Floral and vanilla are two of my favorite things, so this one is easy for me to love.
As noted, a pleasant black tea with solid peach flavor. I like my fruity teas really fruity, and this delivers, although it’s almost so strong it’s like drinking hot peach juice. Not quite, but almost. :) It definitely needs a bit of sugar, peachy or no, as Adagio black tea can be a bit bitter without some sweetening.

Yum! I really liked this! Kind of reminded me of grape popsicles, which I love! I only ordered one of the 25 mg tins, but I think I’ll definitely get some more! Can I say it again? Yum!

Recent lot/blend (9/2017). Short brews. Seems to brew dark, not opaque but 15 seconds was plenty of time to get good extraction for the first couple pours. Starts woody, flavors of potting soil, loam, fresh tree bark, with some sappyness, not sweet but rich, with a thick liquor. A lot of forest floor wo dui but not the smoke aspect that loose leaf commodity shu can have. Cert. Organic which is nice. Neither the best nor the worst, a totally acceptable, pleasant, prototypical tea. As others have noted, this is not the single best vintage stored in the absolute best conditions, that is out there if you want it, but if you are open to trying teas, learning brands, experiencing tea as it is, this is a good shu for the money. Great shu for meals.
