Yep, I came back around to this one again tonight. Such an on-again, off-again relationship for me and this tea!

Took it to my friends’ place for a huge D&D-style game. Everyone else was drinking booze while sickie over here was drinking tea :( but I definitely did enjoy it! So up the rating goes again.

I reckon I’m one cup away from a sipdown here too.

Delicious sample done and dusted!

As delicious as this is, I am ok with just having a sample of it. For now. I guess.

No, it’s great. Very lemon! I cheated and even early on added around a half a tsp of sugar for 8oz of tea and it was just enough to bring out those sweeter notes strongly enough against the zingy lemon.

Could have been a hint more almond. Which is ridiculous for someone who generally dislikes almond taste to say! But I was looking for that real macaron flavour, and as a macaron nut I didn’t quite find it.

Had some of this cold brewed, wow. Ginger winner! With this cold virus there would be a different winning flavour with each sip, between the ginger and fruit, but I think I can call ginger the winner. Pow.

I think I actually prefer this one hot, funnily enough. Cold brewed is still super awesome but I think it’s better balanced hot!

Should have tried this before trying Hello Sweetie, because I’m afraid to say it pales in comparison. As a fan of fairly incredible flavoured black teas, Hello Sweetie wipes the floor with Caramel Vanilla Assam.

But it’s ok because this is still a super tasty tea.

How interesting that I’ve never had a black tea with leaves quite as full and beautiful as this before, either. Oh, Butiki. So swoonful.

Courtney

Haha! I couldn’t make this one work for me, but I found I really enjoyed it with 2 parts CVA and 1 part PTA (the base tea). :)

Funny, I like this one so much more than Hello sweetie, but I MAY have underleafed it. I will ask for a sample with my next order so I can give it another go

Dang. Yes. Yes, hello. HELLO. AHHHHHH HELLO I LOVE YOU.

Sorry, I got a little carried away there.

I have to be honest, I think I oversteeped a little so the black base was a little astringent. Still that delicious coconut shone through, but I wanted more sweetness, so I added a bit of sugar. Delicious sugar. All astringency defeated, and RIDICULOUSLY good toffee notes smashed me in the face, even through the stuffiness of this cold virus.

Do you know what this smells like, too? Smells a bit like Fantasy Island, aka My Favourite Tea Ever. This tea is actually the one I wanted to try the most out of every tea I ordered. It was this tea that made me finally place an order and stop my dilly-dallying. And I have not been disappointed, yikes.

After reading a few reviews I decided to add a bit of cream (why milk when you have cream?) and now I’m thiiiiiiiis close to just physically shaking and weeping.

This is divine.

Hahaha was it good for you?
Hehe ;)

My first ever guayusa, and what a one to start with! To me guayusa tastes a little like tulsi? I haven’t had straight guayusa though so I don’t know how much influence the flavours have on the final taste. I’ve got five more flavoured guayusas from Butiki to sample yet so I’m sure I’ll find out!

Also, made the mistake of having this at bedtime. Oops. Did not realise it was so full of caffeine. Thought it was a herbal, whoops!

Very tasty on both a first and second steep. I look forward to comparing this to the others.

Courtney

Ooh, I’m so excited to try this one. For me, straight guayusa tastes like a rainforest.

Starting with one of my one-cup samples, and of course I picked a lovely light and delicate blend to try. Good luck getting through these blocked sinuses…

So I missed the bubbles people have described, but I sure got that lovely smooth and classy rose flavour paired with the white tea. The rose is nowhere near obnoxious and overpowering, despite there being around half a dozen baby buds in my one cup of leaves.

Good start, Butiki. <3

Translating my ratings, at a glance:

100 — CRITICAL OBSESSION LEVEL REACHED; CAN YOU MARRY TEA!?
95 — this must always be in my pantry. forever.
90 — excellent! you need to try this tea!
85 — very good! you should try this tea!
80-70 — I enjoyed this and will happily drink it again.
65-50 — Fine. Unremarkable.
45-35 — this wasn’t the worst drink ever but I was disappointed; it didn’t live up to my expectations at all.
30-0 — I didn’t enjoy this tea and that makes me sad.

MY TEASTORY:

Grandad got me started young, white (a LOT of white) Irish breakfast with two.

I never strayed far from that until the world of T2 Tea came to Brisbane some years ago, and now I don’t know what I’d do without a pantry full of tea options.

These days I prefer to drink my teas straight without sweetener (though I appreciate some black variations shine better with milk and/or a dash of honey/sugar). I also love a speedy iced tea (hot brewed then poured over ice), and my latest obsession is cold brewing (which doesn’t make a lot of sense, as Australia is headed into winter and I live in the coldest corner of the country, but oh well).

I’d love to make a bunch of tea friends on here, especially those who can talk Aussie teas with me. I’ve recently come back from a jaunt to North America and it was a real hoot to hit up DAVIDsTEA after reading so many reviews! I wish I’d had the chance to get to more stores… but I’m happy with what I got back past customs. See those teas and my local jams in my reviews.

I LOVE:
+ black teas
+ white teas
+ oolongs
+ flavoured versions of all three of the above
+ herbal infusions and fruit tisanes

NOT A FAN:
+ most green teas
+ LICORICE ROOT (my sworn enemy) and aniseed flavours
