768 Tasting Notes
This afternoon I made cheater blueberry croissants (you know, fresh blueberries liberally sprinkled with sugar and rolled up in Pillsbury crescent dough) and I made this tea to go with it. It was really yummy. This is a nice, mellow sort of tea, no sweetener needed, perfect to go with some pastry or cookies. And since I just received my order of Girls Scout cookies, I don’t believe my sample of this tea will last long.
Doggone it, I have a temperature again! 100.4 this afternoon and 100.8 this evening. Life is not fair. Anyone who tells you differently is trying to sell you something. Hmph.
So I decided on a plain sturdy tea this afternoon. I like Dimlah teas. You can’t really go wrong with a plain, straight black tea like this. It’s not a tea of marvelous depth like some of the Whispering Pines teas, but there is something to be said for a workhorse of a daily tea like this. And bagged tea is so darned convenient when you don’t want to fuss.
Today was an early mini-Spring. It got up to 57 in Fargo North Dakota USA in February! I had a window open, grilled a steak, and sweated. Not a day for hot tea, right? Well, after the sun went down I closed the window and sat down to write. But it seemed to get colder, and I realized that I had opened two windows and closed only one. So time for hot tea after all. This one sounds absolutely lovely. My favorite lifesavers are the butter rum ones, and I like butterscotch hard candies too. I’m disappointed to not be able to smell or taste this one. It sounds heavenly.
So, what did I think of it? It was good, if not great. A teeny bit of bitterness at the end of the sip. Next time I may add a lump of rock sugar. I don’t think I’ll rush out and buy 100 grams of this, but I’ll finish the 50 grams that I have without trouble.
Preparation
For some reason it’s really cold in my apartment this morning so after my 2 cups of coffee I decided to brew a pot of tea. Which to drink? Decisions, decisions. Pulled out this one with a sense of surprise. Why havent’ I had this one lately? I really love the Golden Monkeys and this one is one of the best. So smooth, so rich. Man, I just LOVE this tea!
I’m getting over the pneumonia. I’m still super tired and draggy, but my temp has been normal for a few days now, and when I cough it barely hurts at all.
Tonight I went with an old favorite. I was a little disappointed because it didn’t taste like much. I guess my sense of taste is just as bad as my smell now. I still enjoyed it. A nice, warm, comforting cup. And I love seeing the tea in the strainer. The chunks of pear and cranberries expand while the tea steeps, and it just looks so appealing. This will remain a favorite even if I can’t really taste it.
I think I’m really on the road to recovery from this pneumonia. I actually got some cleaning and laundry done today and I don’t feel exhausted. I even cut out the pirate pants for the fantasy fashion show at RAGT. Only 1 day left of the Augmentin. Nasty stuff. But it seems to be working, so yay!
I came down with pneumonia twenty years ago when I was in nursing school. Never been so sick before or since. It took me a solid month to recover and remember being on erythromycin for quite a while. Augmentin is nasty, I agree, but it sure works. Glad you’re getting better! :)
Yeah, I’m tired again today. The fever was gone on the 2nd or 3rd day of augmentin, so it does work. I guess it just takes time to really get over pneumonia. A month for you? I hope I get better faster than that. And I hope this diarrhea clears up too!
Nurse’s advice – You need some Florastor! The Augmentin has wiped out the good bacteria in your colon – That causes diarrhea. Florastor replaces the good bacteria that the antibiotic has killed. No prescription needed and works great! Eating yogurt helps too!
Oh no, I hope you’ll get better soon. I had no idea you had pneumonia. :(
I’m drinking this right now too! Cheers and get some rest.
I had this one last night. It says it low caffeine. I couldn’t actually taste anything . Makes me wonder why I bother with these flavored teas. But I couldn’t taste any bitterness or sourness either. So, a nice cup. I shouldn’t have any trouble drinking my 25 grams.
I decided, since I’m not feeling so well yet, to have a tea I know I like this morning. This one was good. You know, one of those “comfort teas” when you don’t feel like being adventurous. Most of the teas I’ve had this pas tweek haven’t tasted good. Maybe it’s because I’m sick, or maybe those teas are old… I dunno. I do know that this tea tasted fine.
I had this one this morning along with some blueberry crescents. I saw on Pinterest where someone had put a few fresh blueberries on the pre-packaged crescent roll dough, sprinkled sugar over them, rolled them up, sprinkled more sugar over it and baked. I had blueberries, sugar and the crescent rolls, so I figured why not? They were certainly tasty.
I remembered Golden Orchid as a marvelous tea. Today it was blah. It might be that the leaf is getting old (it’s about a year old) or maybe it’s just me. I have a sinus infection and pneumonia and I’m just not feeling very well.
I’m trying to resist the urge to whine. I forced myself to go to work nearly every day last week, except Thursday, and that was the day I went to the clinic and had the chest X-Ray. Why did I force myself to go to work on Friday? What am I, a masochist? Ugh. Enough of that. I was supposed to be one of the readers in church tomorrow but I texted the coordinator and told her I probably wouldn’t make it.OK, that’s enough whining. Although this tea wasn’t as luscious as I remembered, it still was good to drink
I really wish we could get Thin Mints in Canada haha.
I have friends in Winnipeg who place large orders with the Fargo and Minot Girl Scouts. The boxes are put carefully away in the freezer and when they come down they gorge themselves on Thin Mints. :) The shortbread ones are my faves.
Nice! I actually haven’t tried any of them before, only the Canadian sandwich cookies, but I’m always hearing from our southern friends how amazing the Girl Scout cookies are. How much do they sell for, btw? I think I read that ours are $5 per box now.
They are $4.00 USD a box. Probably a little less expensive depending on the exchange rate.
I didn’t know about cheater croissants, but that sounds tasty, and definitely easy enough for my minimal culinary skills!
I love that croissant idea! Too bad there isn’t any gluten free Pilsbury stuff available locally yet. I know they make it! I’ve seen it online. :)
