248 Tasting Notes
Picked this up from Tin Roof Teas yesterday. On my second round now. :)
Very tasty! I’ve been meaning to try more oolong so when I had the chance to stop by Tin Roof Teas I got a bunch. This was the only flavored one I got.
This brews a nice burnt orange and smells of orange but it doesn’t cover up the oolong scent. I think this is probably a Formosa base, but I’ve only had one to compare to. Very lovely orange/citrus taste. The first cup had more, the second has some but it’s lighter. The oolong base is woodsy and smooth. Yum yum.
Note: First steeping at 2 min, second at 3 min. @ 212F
Preparation
This is fantaaaastic. Mint and green tea, one of my favorite combinations. If this is reblended I swear I will get at least 3 bags. I made some of this last night, and then a huge pot this morning. I would consider getting a pound of this, I love it so.
The marshmallow really adds a nice smoothness. The mint is perfect, it doesn’t overpower the green tea. I haven’t had sencha or cloud mist alone (green tea newbie) so I don’t know what each brings but it’s fantastic. Okay, I’m just going to go bask in the glory of my teacup now. Oh, I should also note that the 2nd steeping is very good too.

So I think I might have a job! Yay! I have to call back and let her know that I want it but yay! I’ll be a receptionist at a vet clinic and then move to tech when I enter a vet tech program. They didn’t have room for an assistant at my level (which is a lot of large animal, but not companion animal experience). I’ve been college (and graduated) once and I said I didn’t want to go back but I think I’ll really like it!
Anyway, on to the tea! I cold brewed this, which may have been a mistake with the hibiscus but I won’t know until I try it hot. New tool for cold brewing! I’m using one of DAVIDsTEAs plastic bombillas. I usually cold brew in a glass travel mug, which has a strainer but it sucks. So, now I can use the bombilla and not have to transfer the tea over. Pretty cool! I’m also looking forward to using it with mate, but I think I still want their ceramic gourd. I just feel like I would probably wind up killing any natural gourd I had.
So I get a lot of cherry and apple when I sip this. Maybe a hint of watermelon. Not a whole lot of white tea, but as others have said there doesn’t seem to be much in the mix. I’m almost considering using some plain white peony and blending bits of this in so I get some more actual tea flavor. It’s alright, a little tart on its own. I think if I cold brew again I might try some agave.

Okay so I admit I thought this was going to be chocolatey. Looked up how to brew it on the website and read the description. I wish my little sample pack had come with brewing instructions/more information. However, it was wrapped very nicely and came with a lovely quote. :)
So this is my first grain tea and I was really surprised at how dark it brewed! I didn’t think grains would produce that deep of a color, but then I thought about beer. It’s a deep chocolate color but not opaque. Smells sweet and of course malty. The description mentions coffee flavor which makes me a bit wary.
Tasting it… eh. I don’t like it. It’s not bad, the taste is just not my thing. However, I brought it over to the fiancé who loves coffee and he said it smelled like and gave it the stamp of approval, saying it has a “light coffee flavor”. Bonus for him is that it’s caffeine free which is the reason he stopped drinking coffee in the first place. So, no rating from me but he likes it!
